Trade to announce:
Exploding Pancakes gives Steve Smith (CAR) and Glen Coffee
Last Place gives up Randy Moss
Barring objection I plan to push this trade through before the games begin tomorrow.

When you log in to your fantasy team, your home screen will show the standings in our league, with a matchup section detailing each team’s matchup for this coming week on the right. Near the top of the screen, on the red navigation bar, is a link called “Players.” By clicking this link, you navigate to a listing of every free agent player in the game, and included is a search bar. By typing in a last name in this search bar, and then clicking “Find Player,” you can find any player on any team. Once searched for, a handy little icon next to the player’s name will shortcut you to signing that player to your team if he’s a free agent, or trading for him if he’s taken. In the case of a free agent on waivers, you’ll be given the option to drop someone. Once the free agent clears waivers, he’ll be awarded to the team with the highest waiver priority, automatically! You don’t have to be online!
So now that you all understand how to actually sign a player, there should be no more instances of a team trading for free agents they could have had on the wire days before. And certainly, we should never see the team with the #1 waiver priority have to trade for the free agent handcuff to his first round pick that recently got hurt.
Reminder. Teams with empty/bye/injured players that need to be adjusted: Ellis Dee, Petey, Kiros.
Anyway, Jules is right. I think I had the #11 waiver priority when I signed Coffee, who was clearly the #1 free agent/waiver of the week. Which means none of the 10 people ahead of me did.
When I win this league (and I admit, now that I’m off to a 1-2 and quite possibly 1-3 start there’s only a 90% chance of that), I want it to be satisfying because it’s against tough opponents who are really on the ball, doing their best to win the thing. Especially with the style of waivers we’re using now, you can check out who’s available anytime between Sunday and Tuesday.
So please - if only for this league, try. Check out other people’s rosters. Propose trades. Check out the free agent list. Defeat Jules Andre. Talk smack. Defeat Jules Andre again.
Fuck Trent Edwards with TO’s fist.
How many points do my RBs need to score before someone takes them off my hands!?
Undefeated Quentin’s JAMmers and Tazmanian Devils both lose their first game this week, unless Adrian Peterson can put up 55 points.
Unless Shiancoe decides to stop sucking, I am going to fall to 1-3. I have to be the most stacked 1-3 team of all time. And I’m about to get stronger. Correl Buckhalter limped off the field, meaning Knowshon Moreno probably gets 80%+ of Denver’s carries. Jerome Harrison put up 150 combined yards, possibly meaning this is the week where he edges out old man Lewis. Pierre Thomas looks healthy again - in the one and a half games he’s played, he put up 40+ points. Boldin should be all healed up from his hamstring issues. Early projections for next week put me at having a huge week. I can’t fall to 1-4, can I?
Fortunately in this league half the players make the playoffs. I’m probably out of the picture for a bye week, but I can still turn it around and make the playoffs.
I really screwed myself on that Trent Edwards deal. Edwards put up solid 20 point weeks to open the season, and I assumed that since he started the season with a new O-coordinator who’d been at the job for a week, he’d just get better. But he has completely shit the bed since. Meanwhile, Steve Smith (NYG) who I thought was not as good as he looked so far put up another great game this week. I may have traded away a total stud for scraps at QB. Oh well, at least I got the Eagles defense out of the deal. They get to feast on Tampa Bay this week.
Shiancoe is taunting me. 1 rec, 1 yard, 1 TD. That’s probably all he’ll get. I need 3.21 points out of him… 2 recs, 23 yards would do it…
2 recs, 17 yards…
Visanthe Shiancoe, why do you hate America?
Is it because you have a funny name?
I HAVE GARRARD! YOU ARE ALL DOOMED!
323 YARD 3 TD GARRARD!
Okay, well, that was a fluke. But I’ve lost 3 games because due to injury and terribleness I’ve scored less than 6 points at the QB position 3 weeks in a row, and that’s what cost me. Garrard isn’t going to single handedly win me games, but he’s going to be my team’s game manager - put up some respectable amount of points every week, probably not have an utterly terrible game like Edwards has been having, and let my studs at other positions win the week.
I’m still open to trading for a better QB if anyone wants to get at my RBs. I can pass Garrard along in a trade, and Garrard + RB is probably more appealing than Edwards + RB.
I’m also looking to upgrade at TE. I’d be willing to package Mercedes Lewis + Knowshon Moreno for a high end TE. Knowshon has been getting better every week as he gets over his preseason injury, and Buckhalter is out with an injured ankle for a few weeks so now is his chance to shine - I expect him to start putting up RB2 numbers. My precious Jerome Harrison is up for trade too. I love him but I can’t imagine I’ll be starting him too much with Pierre Thomas looking like everything I’d hoped for.
Barber is available too, but I’d only be willing to involve him in a QB upgrade deal.
I better get my second win this week. If I can’t win with a lineup of Garrard, Jones-Drew, and Lewis @SEA, Moss @DEN, Boldin vs Hou, Barber @KC, and the Philly D against TB then I may as well just disband my team and retire.
Me and Omni are battling this week, both at 1-3. One of us is going to go 1-4. I would say that after draft day we had the 2 best teams in the league, so I’m amazed at how far we’ve sunk.
I was sweating after the TD. I was cursing Shiancoe’s name, but after that, the ex-Giant turned in the best performance this Giant fan could hope for.
Yahoo currently projects me as a 32.47 point favorite this week, which probably means I am going to get demolished, since I’ve been had one of the highest 2 projected scores so far every week and it’s gotten me this shiny 1-3 record.
I dunno, my team looks really good this week. I need to win 2 and pull back to 3-3 and then it’s playoff time from there.
This week looks like its going to be a little too close to call. I do like that the Isotopes have both Chris Johnson and the Colts D starting on the same team. It makes me a little less nervous about a huge day from Johnson because he is facing the Colts so that should at least add a nice balance to the score.
My lineup has a lot of potential as it stands but I am more enthusiastic about the favorable match ups most of my players have. It should be a big week and I am ready to head over to the winning side of things.
Rosters still needing adjustment due to injury or bye: Ellis Dee and Kiros
I can’t do anything right. I thought I’d score 130+ this week.
Exhibit A as to why you should never have more than 2 players starting on one team. Does it ever work out? Even against the Rams?
If it makes you feel any better, after having the highest scoring team after week 3, I have the lowest scoring team in the past 2 weeks, by a very large margin. I wish I could have sold my entire team after week 3. You all better save your fucking waiver positions, because it’s going to be a free for all when I waive my whole team.
Also, I’m about to go 1-7 in the past two weeks over my four teams. Isn’t this supposed to be fun? We’re supposed to be having fun, right? God, I hate fantasy sports.
Really? This is your prime example? My entire team underperforms substantially, but I lost because I added Mercedes Lewis to my starting lineup? If only I hadn’t started Mercedes Lewis, I’d have scored the 115 points my team was projected to score?
“Does it ever work out”? No, you got me. Every time someone starts 3 players from the same team, that team is shut out. I should’ve known that David Garrard, who averages 19 points a game would put up 3.9 points. Or that MJD, who averages 20 a game, would put up 8. Clearly my having started Mercedes Lewis along with them was the big factor here.
If I had started the same trio last week, I’d have scored 57.25 points between them. But no, it never works out. How foolish of me.
Well, do you expect me to keep a list of every time it happens so that I could “cite?!” it every season? Besides, it’s well known that the fantasy gods dislike this particular tactic and punish their owners with bad karma accordingly. You started 3 Jaguars, I started 3 Eagles. How did our teams do?
I personally can’t remember a time where I loaded up on one team against a bad defense and had it work out well.
All I’ll say is that running backs on the road fare significantly worse than they do at home. QBs and WRs suffer too, but not as much. Seattle is one of the last two or three real home field advantages left in the NFL, so this is exacerbated by playing there. But that’s all just salt on the wound, sorry about how that game went down for you. I didn’t think Jacksonville would win or do well at all, but I didn’t see that game coming either.
It’s all the fantasy football gods. We are just pawns in their grand game of misery and sadness.
Dude, you’re being ridiculous.
Garrard - projected 18.83/actual 3.9
Randy Moss - 13.73/4.1
Boldin - 13.79/9.9
MJD - 22.60/8.2
Lewis - 7.51/2.8
Barber 17.2/5.30
Reed 10.87/4
The fact that I started 3 people from the same team is so far from being relevant here that it’s absurd. I had a 34 point projected lead on my opponent, and they actually came up 25 points short on their projected score (unless Britt goes nuts), and I still lost.
Even if all 3 of my jacksonville players totally tanked as they did, it would only take the expected/projected day from any of my other players - Moss, Boldin, Barber, even my kicker - to be winning. A garbage time TD by jacksonville would’ve done it too.
To address the situation more generally - yes, starting multiple players from one team can be successful, and it happens all the time.
What is it that you were suggesting I do? If this is a backwards way of saying “Hmm, well, you had MJD and Lewis, so you shouldn’t have started Garrard, you should’ve started the guy who threw for 4 TDs!” well, you got me. Indeed, I should’ve started the guy who threw for 4 TDs. I should’ve known.
Actually, if I were to keep myself under some artificial limit of 2 players per team, it would’ve been Lewis I would’ve dropped, because obviously MJD is a must start, and I needed the (what seemed to be) a high floor for Garrard to get some stability to my QB position. So swapping out Lewis for some other TE wouldn’t have fixed my team underperforming by more than half their projected score.
There were hundreds or thousands of people out there today that started 3 Seattle players today. How did the fantasy gods punish them? Did the universe split apart and in their paralell dimension, it was actually the Seahawks getting shut out?
I am now 1-4, with probably the best top to bottom roster in the league. I have had either the highest projected score, or second highest projected score, for all 5 weeks. And I’ve managed to win one of those games.
This has only served to piss me off, and I am ready to hulk out.
For most teams, the season would be over after this start. But I am going to come back from this. I will make it to the playoffs. And from there I will melt the face right off anyone who stands in my way.
Songs will be sung about the righteous fury that I am going to inflict upon all who oppose me.
