SDMB All-Pro Fantasy Football league

Unless I’m missing something, so long as Mason Crosby scores more than 2.19 points for me (which would put me ahead of Omni’s total score), I will get in if Ellis Dee or Isotopes loses, regardless of what happens in the Omni/NUFAN game. If No Use wins, Omni drops to 7-6 with me and I’ll have the score tiebreaker. If Omni holds out to win, No Use will drop to 6-7 and out of contention.

I cannot believe I am going to miss the playoffs. What the fuck, every goddamn team in contention won except for me. What are the odds of that? What are the odds of the schedule even allowing that to happen? In the one week I need a win and I end up being the only team scoring 100+ points to lose. Fuck me. Thank god for HHM or my entire fantasy football season would be a complete abortion.

Well… if Mason Crosby misses 5 or 6 field goals, you’re in.

Edit: I’ve actually scored 0 and 1 from my kicker this fantasy season, and I need 3 in this case. Yes, very likely - but it would not shock me if I somehow didn’t pull this out. It would, however, send me into a murderous rage.

Looks like the scenario played out exactly as I posted earlier. Now the Fanboys need 69 from Rodgers, Driver, and Grant. They scored 66 last week, btw. Still interesting.

If Ellis Dee does manage to score those points (and hopefully Baltimore will be a bit tougher to score on than Detroit…) then he’d get my spot (assuming again that Crosby scores 3+ points).

Thanks for not sitting your roster, by the way. At least this way if I get beaten and taken out of the playoffs it’ll feel legit.

This is the second week in a row I will be sitting watching Rodgers, Driver, and Forte on primetime and hoping the damage they do isn’t too bad.

The other wrinkle could be that Kid_A could beat Isotopes - he needs 22 points out of Greg Jennings which is certainly possible. If that happened Isotopes would drop to 6-7 and be out of contention for the last slot. It would most likely free up a spot for Omni barring an Ellis Dee win in this scenario.

So Frosted, Jammers, Gridbirds, and No Use all have a spot locked up.
Isotopes is in with a win. I’m in if I score 3+ points and one of Isotopes/Fanboys loses. Omni is in if I don’t score 3 points, or with losses from Ellis Dee and Isotopes.

I think. I may have made an error in there somewhere, I’m pretty tired. Correct me if I missed something.

No problem, I always enjoy having a built in excuse for my inevitable failure.

We have our playoffs.

  1. Frosted Lightning
  2. Quentin’s Jammers
  3. The Gridbirds
  4. Isotopes
  5. No Use For A Name
  6. Exploding Pancakes

First 2 seeds get a bye, so next week the games will be

Gridbirds vs Exploding Pancakes
Isotopes vs No Use For A Name

At the end of the regular season, here are our rankings if they were sorted by highest score rather than win-loss.

*4. Isotopes 7-6 1341.42
*3. The Gridbirds 8-5 1314.22

12. Tazmanian Devils 4-9 1070.37

I’d like to pat myself on the back for making my first SDMB league playoff.

I still can’t figure out how I missed the playoffs. I don’t know what in the hell I did wrong, there wasn’t really one player that killed me or a major injury.

Greg Olsen underperformed but I didn’t really spend that much for him. Vincent Jackson disappeared down the crucial stretch, but WRs are always prone to that. I actually survived the bye weeks pretty well, better than about anyone. My #1 pick in DeAngelo Williams performed pretty much exactly as one would project, as did Tom Brady at QB. I didn’t have too many hard luck losses. I had some success on the waiver wire but no real homeruns and I probably had some bad luck with kicker and defense roulette, but that’s about all I can figure. Looking at the weekly totals it seems like my biggest Achilles was often poor and inconsistent production from my flex spot, which is a bit of a shock considering I had Bradshaw and Stewart as options. I definitely left a lot of points on my bench by picking the wrong spots to start guys but I’m not sure that I was particularly unique there compared to everyone else.

This season is a complete mystery.

To be fair, you only missed the playoffs by 7 points. Basically, if you made the wrong sit/start decision, even one time, that was the difference.

I looked over your team and your results and I can’t really figure anything out. My first guess is that your team had a very low ceiling. Yeah, you scored 160 one week, but other than that it seems like you were always somewhere around the same area. But even that idea has holes, so I don’t know. Sure seems like a playoff roster to me, anyway.

I’m a little surprised I made it into the playoffs at all. There was a whole lot working against my team. I had a brutal schedule over the last 6 weeks (only two opponents with losing records, neither were in the 4-9 bottom tier of teams and neither had a losing record when I played them. Court Jesters was even in first when I played him.). I averaged 110.4 pts/g over the last 6 games and only went 3-3. A team scored 110+ and lost only four times all year, and I did it twice. It feels bizarre that I have the second seed when in week 12 it was looking like I might miss the playoffs entirely. What a strange and compelling league this has been.

Whenever I have a position I keep going back and forth on, I end up picking the wrong one at the last minute, trying to change it 10 seconds after the deadline, and then regretting it massively. This week I’m going to choose the wrong guy between Fred Jackson and Ricky Williams.

Manning will throw 8tTSs today with no targets for Wayne…

er, 8 TDs, of course.

My 2 top 5 receivers managed to combine for less than 7 points, so I’m pretty much screwed unless Vernon Davis decides to do his Dallas Clark impression and get 3 TDs, and the Eagles defense does the same.

Alright, Eagles. 11 sacks, 4 picks, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 defensive TD, and a return TD will get me back in this.

Wow… that, uh, might actually happen. Really lucky for you that Maclin got carted into the locker room too.

I still don’t really have a chance I don’t think, but now I get the potential to be irritated by this. I was unhappy but at peace when I saw I was down by 60 points… it didn’t matter, I was just getting my ass kicked this week and I couldn’t have done anything to change it. But if my team somehow pulls it to within 10 or 15, then I have to kick myself over it. “Oh, I could’ve won if I started Nicks/Ganther/Snelling” type stuff.

Well that sucks, I’ll be looking at my lowest finish in the league so far. At least I made the playoffs.

Nothing I can really beat myself up over… last year I was a last minute roster change away from going to the title game. This was back when Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush were going nuts alternately and I owned both, and I kept switching back, and literally a minute before kickoff decided to switch back to Thomas, the change didn’t go through, then he put up like 30 points, which would’ve taken me to the championship game…

But this year I started my studs, and they just didn’t produce. Nothing I could’ve done. It was kind of a relief to lose by a decent margin - no beating myself up this year, I just lost. Oh well.

I’m now rooting for Gridbirds, since only Jules can earn a higher average finish than me. If he gets 4th place, and I take 5th, we’d actually be tied for best average finish. Very unlikely he’ll lose twice though, but that’s my only rooting interest remaining.

Semi-finals matchups:

  1. Frosted Lightning vs
  2. Isotopes

and
2) Quentin’s Jammers vs
3) The Gridbirds

with the 5th place game being

  1. No Use For A Name vs
  2. Exploding Pancakes

Aw, isn’t that sweet.

My matchup is a lot tougher this week than it may look, and I have the curse of a 20+ projected lead to worry about. I’m concerned about how unlikely it looks that I can win 2 in a row here.

WTF, gridbirds couldn’t even be bothered to swap out an injured Jeremy Maclin in the semfinals?

It’s a close game too and that may be the deciding factor.
