SDMB Big League Fantasy Football 2014

Nevermind, I’m rolling with Ponder tonight. Woo.

Muddled through to another win this week, but with Montee Ball and DeAngelo Williams out I need a running back. I have a Jordy Nelson (and Ball) to trade.

This is the first Monday Night game that I am heavily invested in. With Jackson and Morris left to play, I need a combined 27 points to get the win. That number is not impossible but it is definitely difficult considering this will likely be entirely on the shoulders of Morris.

I’ll see what I can do, though it’s not likely to be much. Yahoo still thinks Ball’s going to play the next couple of weeks, which makes evaluating trades kinda wonky. And not like most of us have a spare RB just hanging around.

.44! That really hurts. Oh well, I swear I can still do this. Anyone interested in the occasionally talented Jackson? Seriously though, I need to do some work on the Trading Block to dig my way out of this hole.

Man, all 3 undefeated teams lost this week. I just need a decent game from Niles Paul to stay in first and I got nothing.

I may suddenly have a glut of RBs.

I’ve got Ben Tate, looking like the clear starter and stud he could be, Andre Williams looking like he’s going to be a big part of New York’s offense, Richardson and Bradshaw, and Benny Cunningham.

I’m willing to package one of those guys and Tony Romo for a good QB, or one of those guys and Hopkins, Hawkins, Wallace, Torrey Smith, or Kenny Britt for a good RB or WR. I might consider a straight RB/WR swap, but I’d like to make a package deal.

Sent you a PM.

Sent you a trade offer, and it’s a doozie.

Big trade:

I give up
Tony Romo
Ben Tate
DeAndre Hopkins

RNATB gives up
Andrew Luck
Monte Ball
CJ Anderson

This deal favors him in raw value by a decent margin, I think. I’m high on Tate, and Hopkins has been good. But Luck is also the #1 scorer in fantasy by a decent margin and there’s no reason to suspect that’ll decline, so it’s asset to give up.

This was made possible by the fact that it looks like Andre Williams will become a viable RB starter, and I’ve got a bunch of decent WRs to start from week to week even without Hopkins. This might not be a deal I made if I was 4-1, but this is the first year I’ve really done badly in this league and I’m willing to gamble that Luck will win me an extra game or two and my replacements at WR and RB will be adequate.

Of course, Tony Romo might end up closing in on Luck in production since he’s on the upswing, Monte Ball continues to be a complete bust, and Ben Tate becomes an RB1 like I optimistically project him, in which case it’s a pretty bad deal for me. We’ll see.

Also, I’m willing to trade Torrey Smith, Benny Cunningham, Storm Johnson, or CJ Anderson for a good defense, as long as you’re willing to have the deal go through for this week. Trent Richardson is also available for a top defense.

I like it. It’s a big trade with a lot of moving parts - it’s good to have trades like that set the tone in a league to show that each team has to give something up to get something in return.

Oh, and I pushed the trade through, as we do with all trades where both parties want that to happen. RNATB gave me permission this morning to do it before the Thursday games. But he forgot to mention whether he’d want DeAndre Hopkins to start for him, who’s involved in tonight’s game. I’m sure he does, but I’m not sure which slot. So I hope he shows up by then to adjust his roster.

… I didn’t. Can you fix it?

Yeah, who were you going to displace?

Riley Cooper. Though I guess I probably could have taken my chances.

I told you guys!

So far this season I’ve been winning with Luck and Jordy Nelson and smoke and mirrors. That, and my rather prescient draft stance on Mohamed Sanu. I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to be able to keep that going all year.

I see Luck regressing a bit (he’s not going to keep throwing 10 yard TDs to Bradshaw every week), and Montee Ball is facing an extended layoff. I had CJ Anderson, but he was scratched in favor of a UDFA last week so his place in the replacement committee is unclear.

My only other RBs were Shane Vereen and DeAngelo Williams, who is going to be missing multiple weeks himself. That meant I had to do something at RB, and at the flex spot.

Romo’s not putting up huge numbers, but he’s been a bit more productive over the last few weeks and teams are going to be playing close to the line to stop Murray. So while I don’t think he’ll match Luck’s numbers going forward he’ll be close.

Tate I absolutely would not have traded for a few weeks ago; I figured Cleveland’s rookies had earned significant playing time. Apparently they haven’t, and the tasty upcoming schedule (Steelers, Jags, Raiders, Bucs) was too good to pass up.

DeAndre Hopkins was just gravy. Until last night he appeared to be the clear #1 in Houston and he’s a huge upgrade at the flex spot over Riley Cooper.

Oh, and Beef: I would not have taken Bradshaw instead of Tate. I love what he’s doing, but under no circumstances am I giving up value for a running back with a broken neck.

FML Joe Flacco with 5 TDs against me in the first quarter.

What’s the scoring record for an individual player in this league? Flacco is already at 31 points and it’s not halftime yet. I know Peyton had that big game in the opener last year and there was that insane Michael Vick Monday night game a few years ago.

Early returns on this trade are promising. Tate had 25 carries for two TDs today (though Isaiah Crowell looked a lot better) and Romo has two so far against Seattle - that matchup almost made me wait a week to pull the trigger. Juwan Thompson (the piece of the Denver backfield I kept) also played significant snaps today and might keep a piece of the backfield work.

I’m not very worried about DeAndre Hopkins going forward despite his bad day on Thursday.

I’m really happy with all the Sanu shares I have. I can’t imagine the Bengals aren’t going to keep throwing to him when Green and Marvin Jones return.
