Does anyone think they may have an emergency that would keep them from drafting tomorrow? If so we could replace you with RNATB. Otherwise I will probably replace Justin with him, who generously offered to do a prerank draft for us in the event we couldn’t fill up. He told me he was waiting for Tuesday to do most of his pre ranking work so we would not be wasting too much of his effort. RNATB are you still good to go for tomorrow?
Yes sir.

Okay, so here’s the situation with our last slot.
Curry Porkrinds (tds1273) didn’t accept his invite until last week. He hasn’t been on the boards in years, but has attended every draft we’ve ever had. I sent him an e-mail to confirm that he looked at the draft time and didn’t just absent-mindedly accept the invite without looking closely and he never got back to me. Now if he was a second year guy, the lack of confirmation would bother me and I’d probably boot him, but he’s a guy who’s made every draft. So I’m going to trust he’ll make it this year.
Justin Bailey was nice enough to set up a pre-rank draft list for us in case we got stuck with 17 or 19 players so we could fill out the league and not boot anyone. He did some work on his pre-rank list, but told me he’d do the bulk of it on Tuesday morning. He would’ve saved our bacon if we had an odd number of teams because then we would’ve had to boot someone to make it even. But now that we have a real live drafter who wants back in in RNATB, it’s significantly preferable to have a live drafter. 20 live drafters is the ideal circumstance by far.
So I’m going to go ahead and boot Justin and let RNATB in, and hope that no one has a last day emergency, and that Curry Porkrinds is consistent, because we’ll all be set up for a full 20 man draft. But thanks again to Justin for offering to help us out when it looked like we might not fill.
Also, if you think that you might miss the draft because something came up, tell me us in the next few hours. We could still have RNATB replace you instead of Justin. But Justin said he’d do most of his pre-ranking work Tuesday morning - obviously I’m not going to have him do that when the plan is just to boot him for RNATB. So speak up before then if you won’t be able to make it.
I’m a bit confused. Am I taking over a team, or just drafting for someone else? Don’t mind either way, just wanted to make sure.
When it looked like we might not fill up, Justin said he couldn’t make the draft but he’d pre-rank an autodraft team just so we wouldn’t get stuck with 19 people. But now that you’re around, and we could have 20 live drafters, I was going to boot Justin and give you the slot. You’d draft your own team normally.
Okay, I’m executing the change now, RNATB, you’ve got an invite.
I suspect 20 live drafters. If anyone has a major emergency later that would prevent them attending the draft (and, something like your pregnant wife being on fire is not a good enough reason - miss a few picks max) at the very least go through and pre-rank a few players with a very high value so you’ll at least land a few players. If you don’t do that, and just rely on the yahoo autodrafter, you essentially won’t draft anyone. Better to have 3-4 overpaid players than no one.
The last few years I’ve invited people in the drafts to hop on my mumble (voice chat) server to let us talk during the draft. Usually only a few people hop on, but it’s still fun to be able to talk about the draft as it’s ongoing.
If you want to join us, you can get mumble here. There’s a wizard that’ll walk you through the setup. Set a push-to-talk key since it’s more complicated to set the voice activation levels and if you do it wrong it’s really annoying.
Once it’s set up, you can add the server as
LABEL: Beef (or whatever, doesn’t matter)
Hostname beef.mu///mble.cc
Port 4282
take out the slashes in the middle of the hostname, I just put them there to throw off any random web crawlers from scooping up the address.
Alright I’m going to be unavailable till a couple of hours before draft time. I sent out PM reminders to everyone.
I’m looking forward to it.
Just doing my analysis now, and tossing up between Sam Bradford and Dak Prescott for my top QB preferences.

One hour until draft. I expect to see a full live draft.
Every year I try to remind everyone to keep the nomination times short. If we take 20 seconds per nomination that adds like 90 minutes to the draft. Until people start going for $1, it doesn’t matter who you nominate - just pick the guy at the top of the list if you don’t have a better idea. Nominations happen in an order, you can see when yours is coming up, it shouldn’t take more than 5 seconds.
nom, nom, nom
Can someone fix the schedule as previously discussed?
As long as nobody gets hurt and the bye weeks are cancelled, my team will be amazing.
Well, I woke up to a garbage bench (including two players not even on a team), but I’m pretty satisfied to have 7 viable starters. First time I ever spent more than $1 on defense, so hopefully that doesn’t backfire.
Woops, I forgot about divisions.
Do you guys remember who was in your division last year? Do you even remember that something got screwed up with the divisions too late to fix and we had to go with random divisions last year? Do you remember who was in your division 2 years ago when we tried to have divisions based on time in the league?
If the answer is no to those questions, do divisions serve a purpose at all? Or are they just random groupings that add an extra layer of randomness on top of H2H wins and losses to separate to seperate people from where they finish and where their socring indicates where they finish?
If I were to set divisions this year, do I set them to match the random divisions of last year? Try to re-create the divisions of two years ago which were initially set based on time in the league but then fudged whenever we had replacements (and will have to be re-fudged this year due to this year’s replacements)? Or start over and re-order divisions based on time in the league, but fudged to keep off-board friends together? Or some other factor entirely?
Since there’s no good answer to that question, and no one even knows or cares what divisions they’re in, I feel like this would be a good year to just be rid of them. It was a new feature a few years back that became an experiment that didn’t add anything to the league, so there’s no reason to stick with them simply because it has become the status quo.
But if everyone really wants divisions I guess we’ll figure out some divisions.
I say get rid of divisions. Everyone plays a random schedule, top 8 (?) records go to playoffs. That’s the most fair.
I could care less about divisions in this league. Not worth the hassle, especially in a league like this which is a complete redraft and has owner turnover every year.
No preference here. Divisions; no divisions; it’s all the same to me. Whatever is easiest.
