SDMB Big League Fantasy Football 2016

no divisions between friends

I preranked exactly enough $1 guys to fill my bench, and woke up with all of them but one (who was replaced by a suspended kicker for some reason).

I’ve done that before, but most of the $1 guys don’t make it past the first couple weeks anyway, so it doesn’t seem to be worth the effort.

And my WR Kelvin Benjamin catches the first TD of the 2016 season.

Woohoo!

It’s all downhill from here.

Alright gentlemen, I have some dumb news.

Yahoo was, as far as I can recall, not showing divisions on the front league page when it listed all the players. It looked as if there were no divisions. But I didn’t specifically go in and turn the divisions setting off - I guess I just thought that since there appeared to be no divisions, and I didn’t go in and create the divisions, we’d have no divisions.

But what appears to have happened is that there were secretly divisions all along, it just didn’t display them on the standings page, instead making it look as though they didn’t exist and that I would’ve had to manually create them to have them.

But that’s not the case, because as soon as week 1 started, suddenly we’re all in (random?) divisions.

I can’t turn off divisions without throwing away week 1’s results and starting scoring on week 2, which I’m guessing people will object to more than just having random divisions this year. So I think we’re stuck with random divisions this year. Ultimately my bad because I didn’t look closely enough, but screw yahoo for making it appear that we didn’t have divisions until it was irreversible.

Can you just change it so playoff seeding is based on record alone? I think that’s the big issue is that division “winners” get the top seeds.

Aha. Good idea. I did that. So given that we have random scheduled and playoffs will consist of th Bret 8 teams it would appear to have rendered divisions irrelevant unless I’m missing something.

Sounds fine to me.

Just warning you ahead of time though: if i win my division and miss the playoffs, i’ll come back here to complain about the unfairness of it all.

I’m not saying I called RG3 going on IR week 1, but I did say that Garoppolo was the better pick.

Garoppolo, who will only be starting 4 games of the season, is a better pick because a guy who could’ve started 16 got injured? You should use those amazing psychic powers for something useful.

Next week if DeAndre Hopkins gets knocked out with an injury I’ll be here to tell you what a stupid pick that was.

Injury gloating is lame.

As always, I get to watch my RB run wild in one league while getting smacked upside the head by him in another. It really tempers my enthusiasm every time the Yahoo! FF app tells me he scored a TD.

Trade:

Overly Sentimental sends Fozzy Whittaker to Bloom County Bills for Jordan Howard.

Another trade:

Overly Sentimental sends Matt Asiata to Court Jesters for Kenny Britt. It’s through.

nevermind

I’m on my fourth quarterback in four weeks. RG3 went down, then McCown, then Cutler- and Wentz is on bye this week which really means I’m down to my 5th option - in a league where some teams don’t even have a backup quarterback it’s been tricky to scrape together 3 losses in 4 weeks but I’ve got a handle on it, even though I had to sacrifice roster space (to hold both Cutler and Hoyer to see who starts) and FAAB dollars.

Welcome to my basement, can I get you a chair? Wish I could blame my suckitude on injuries, but my problem is that I usually get 1-2 starters having a super game while 6-7 have horrible games…and it changes every week. I’m only losing by an average of ~6.5 points per week, but a loss is still a loss.

You know what’s almost as bad? Watching your QB have a good night, but almost every good throw and TD is going to a WR that is playing against you. Last week, Aaron Rodgers couldn’t stop throwing to Jordy Nelson, and in our league, where a passing TD is only worth 4 points for a QB but 6 points for a WR, i was effectively losing points just about every time Rodgers threw a score.

I managed to scramble back up to .500 this week, with a win. This despite the fact that my QB1 had his bye. I was helped considerably by Will Fuller, who had a big day, including a 67 punt return for a TD. I hope Houston keeps using Fuller in that 2-punt-returner setup; even if it’s unlikely to yield any more touchdowns, it might add some return yards to his receiving numbers each week.

On the other hand, for the second week in a row, i could have improved my score considerably by benching the right players. Last week i cost myself about 30 points by fielding a less-than-optimum lineup, and this week i could have added about 15. Luckily, it didn’t change the result for either game; last week i would have lost even with the extra points, and this week i won without them.

One problem is that i keep hoping that Golden Tate will finally do something, but after today he’s dead to me. DEAD! He’s had a woeful start to the year, and today he caught 1 pass for 1 yard. Awesome! He did also manage to get into the end zone for the first time this season, but it was for a 2pt conversion, so even that didn’t help me very much.

In positive news, CJ Spiller, who didn’t even have a team for the first three weeks, managed a receiving TD on his first appearance for the Seahawks. I’m not exactly optimistic that he’ll be a regular source of points, but if he can get a few carries and some passing receptions each week, he might serve as a useful backup when the Bye weeks come around for my other RBs.

And after a Week 1 performance where they got slammed and netted me -4 points, the Rams defense has been great, with scores of 15, 11, and 20 over the past three games.

Now that Green Bay’s bye week is done and i’ve got Rodgers back, if there’s anyone out there with QB problems who’s willing to take a gamble on Ryan “INT” Fitzpatrick, i’m open to trade offers.

My team was totally dependent on Cam Newton and Antonio Brown. Now I don’t have Newton, and I was already winless.

I’ve had the weirdest luck. I put in bottom 5 scores twice, and won both of those against near the lowest score of the week. The other 2 weeks, I put up good scores and lost. (91 this week isn’t great, but it’s my biggest bye week + Decker’s out).

SenorBeef and i appear to be in something of a race to the bottom today. Or maybe battle of attrition might be a better term.

Most of my players are performing below expectations, and every time i check my projected total it seems to have gone down another few points. The only thing keeping me alive is that the same thing seems to be happening to the Exploding Pancakes.
