SDMB Big League Fantasy Football 2019

Wow. Garcon’s Cedilla is easily the unluckiest player, 6th in points total, and 16th based on W-L.

I’m easily the luckiest, at 15th in points and 6th on W-L. GC and I basically have mirror-image rankings, and I should probably offer him my place in the playoffs.

Dr. Zeuss was also a bit lucky, 10th in points but 2nd in W-L.

Woohoo!

With a win in the first round of the playoffs, the Inglewood Chargers are advancing to the semi-finals. Huge games from Emmanuel Sanders (including a passing TD) and Aaron Jones were the difference for me this week, allowing the team to beat its projections by about 16 points.

I went into Monday night’s game just over 4 points down, with Giants WR Sterling Shepard and the Eagles D still to play. At half-time, I was biting my nails because Philadelphia had already given up 17 points to the Giants, and it looked like my team might go out of the game backwards with a negative Defense score. But the Eagles stiffened up in the second half, recording a couple of sacks and giving up no points at all.

My opponent, Covfefe, got a huge game from Chargers RB Austin Ekeler, with 200+ total yards and a TD, but Larry Fitzgerald and Sony Michel underperformed, and he rest of his team were all close to their projections, leaving him a few points shy of his projected total.

I’m up against Dr. Zeuss in the semi. He had a very close win over Frosted Lightning. Up By Three plays Pew Pew in the other game. Pew Pew had the best performance this week, with a pretty easy win over Nine Inch Neils, thanks to huge numbers from his New Orleans contingent of Brees, Thomas, and Cook (87 points between three players).

That was a squeaker. Congratulations Up by Three. I’m kicking myself for taking a zero on Josh Jacobs, and it’s easy to look at points left on the bench, but other than not swapping out Jacobs, I made my best guesses and happened to come up short. Hindsight and all… And swapping Jacobs out would have just made it a closer loss.

I still sometimes get annoyed with myself when I leave a guy on the bench and he ends up having a big game, but you really do have to just make your best guess and hope it works out. It’s still sometimes frustrating, though, to lose a game and see that, if you had only made that switch, you could have won.

Well, the luck I’d been riding for half the season ran out this week. My team stunk up the place, underperforming projections by almost 30 points. At the same time my opponent, Dr. Zeuss, beat his projections by more than 30, leading to a complete blowout.

I could have done much better if I had picked the right QB and the right Defense, but it wouldn’t have made a difference to the result. Dr. Zeuss got massive performances from Tyler Lockett, Brashad Perriman and Ezekiel Elliot. Those three players alone were enough to beat my team score.

Neither of the semi-final games were close. Pew Pew, helped once again by a powerful Saints contingent as well as a huge day of Defense by the Vikings, took care of Up By Three by more than 40 points.

Pew Pew will meet Dr. Zeuss in the final, and I go in as an underdog (based on projections) against Up By Three in the consolation.

Not a good showing for us this year that the two championship teams came from 4 off-board people I recruited from reddit to fill the league.

Well, I made some bad sit/starts this week, but Pew Pew blew me out so much that it didn’t end up mattering, and it somewhat justified my desire to swing for the fences, even though neither worked out.

I guess technically there are only 3 off board members now since I figured I would join up, I’ve sort of been lurking this thread all season.

Anyway, Up By Three and Nine Inch Neils good game to both of ya. I honestly have no clue how the hell I made it this far. We’ll see what comes of this Final.

Thanks for having me this year everybody.

Hey guys. I e-mailed those of you in the league this message, but I think posting it here will probably get it out to people better.

I should’ve got around to this a while back but I’ve been procrastinating and wanting to avoid it.

The SDMB has been on the decline for years. Every year it became harder and harder to fill the fantasy league. Last year I had to grab 4 or 5 interested players from reddit just to fill the league - and while they were cool and fine players, it’s just a sign that there’s less and less interest in this league from the boards. Since the SDMB switched software and lost a lot of its population, it’s even worse this year.

I renewed this league in July and only 5 people signed up through the first 3 months. Since then a couple more have. But we’d normally be at like 14-16 people re-newing for this year in most years, and so I decided that this meant the interest level was really low and it was just unlikely to run this year based on the circumstances. We had to scrape this league together last year even though the SDMB was running normally and we were having a normal year for football. I just didn’t think we’d make it, especially with the threat of a weird pandemic football season with cancelled games.

Next year I may try to be more proactive and see if some of the interest for the league rebounds. Maybe we can re-launch then if it seems viable. I’m sorry I’m getting this message out so late, I was kind procrastinating both trying to scrape up a league that I didn’t think would end up working, and procrastinating on delivering the sad news.

If it seems viable to restart the league next year I may give that a go. Thank you for the interest and all the years played. I’m sorry it took me this long to get this message to you.

I had to go back through my emails and I didn’t see anything from the league inviting me back. Apologies if I just straight missed it.

Yeah, I didn’t get anything either. The last thing I have is from 2019 for any of my FF leagues. It looks like Yahoo reverted to sending stuff to my Yahoo email which I only used to sign up and have never used.

I’m out anyway. Thanks for running the league, SB.

I don’t think I got any email, although if it went to my Yahoo email I don’t check that very much.

This is a bummer! This was my favorite league. There’s something about a really big league, combined with an auction draft and really shallow benches that makes it much more fun than those 12-player leagues, where you can just slot in a pretty good player if your top RB or WR goes down.

It certainly seems like it was getting increasingly difficult to fill the league each year. Thanks for running it for so long, @SenorBeef.
