SDMB Big League FF 2010

Yeah, that’ll be reverted. No grabbing player from a pre-Sunday game until the general waiver period starts on Sunday.

Oops. Forgot about that. Do what you must.

Alright Beef, I’ve got a gametime decision that I hope you’ll honor.

If Arian Foster starts I want him in the W/R/T flex spot.

If he doesn’t start, I’ve switched Brandon LaFell into the flex spot.

I would love it if we can do this. My Sundays are often fraught with travel and familial commitments and travel, which sometimes makes it difficult to be near a computer at 11:55 a.m. Can we announce this kind of thing in advance to avoid the inevitable, “I wish I was at my computer” thing. I’d help me out later in the year.

41 points on my bench Thursday night. Which is more points than I got in any game last year.

I noticed that. What a bummer!

Huh. 144 points, with Reggie Bush still to go. I like my team and all, but that’s certainly unsustainable!

Reminder: We use a waiver system after the games begin so that it’s not the person closest/fastest to their computer that gets any important player due to breakout/injury/etc. Yahoo has two options: put all free agents on waivers at kickoff of the first game. What sucks about that is that if there’s a Thursday game, you wouldn’t be able to go in on Saturday and swap out an injured player for his backup for the Sunday game - all rosters would be locked on Thursday night.

So we use the other option, which is that the waiver period starts at 1pm on Sunday, which is a lot more flexible.

But that also means that there isn’t an automatic way to keep people from snatching up players in the Thursday or Saturday night games. So we just have to not do that, and instead wait until the normal Sunday to Tuesday waiver period to put in a bid for them with the rest of the players.

For people that jumped the gun this week I reverted their pickups and put the players they dropped back on their team. If you want to put in a waiver claim on one of those players that got picked up and then reverted, you can do it until IIRC midnight tomorrow.

Yeah, I’ve been doing it in all my leagues for a few years but people rarely use it. The stated intentions just have to be very clear, who to bench, who to start, what the exact unambiguous conditions are that you’d otherwise be able to observe yourself if you were at your computer before kickoff, etc.

It would be better though if you said “If Arian Foster is inactive” rather than “if Arian Foster doesn’t start”, because starting can occasionally be ambiguous, but your intentions are clear here so I’ll put Brandon Lafell in the flex spot.

Two teams in the league scored more points than me this week; one of them was the team that i was playing against.

Sorry mhendo - you should have lobbied for that sweet Week 8 matchup against me. You win the SenorBeef award for the week.

I’ve been crazy busy in the last week and didn’t add the leftover auction money to FAABs. It’s too late to do it now, so I hope no one was planning on spending their whole load on some players this week. If so, my bad. The remaining draft dollars will be added tomorrow.

After watching you spend $62 to land Devery Henderson, I can see why you need the leftover auction money.

With an injured Lance Moore and Marques Colston, there aren’t going to be many better pickups this year than Devery Henderson. Better to blow money early than finish with it unused.

Definitely a good call. I am just bitter that I couldn’t scoop him up with my paltry bid. Henderson has given me numerous headaches in the past but he is still a beast. With Colston out and Moore suspect, Henderson should have no problem living up to his proven potential.

Best of luck!

Beef,

Because I am slow, I’m asking about the waiver system again. Even though we don’t have a Thursday night game this week, we still can’t acquire players until they all go on waivers Sunday at 1PM? So, you get one shot per week to acquire players, by putting in a bid before the week’s deadline? (Wed, IIRC.)

Currently, Yahoo is listing the available players as FA, but I don’t want to try and grab one, only to make you have to revert it.

Thanks,

No - we can all grab players until they go on waivers Sun. @ 1:00pm. It was just that for some reason, players who played Thursday didn’t go on waivers until Sunday.

The waivers thing only applies to players whose game has already started their games. If you wanted to pick up a Seattle or Tampa or whatever player on Thursday night, that’s fine, because they’re still free agents. It’s only Saints/Packers that played their game that become off limits. The idea is that we don’t want the guy who sits by his computer during every game to snatch out every breakout player (like Randall Cobb) - we want to give everyone a shot at them.

Yahoo does this automatically for the most part - from Sunday at 1pm onwards, every free agent goes on waivers - but the NFL has no “players go on waivers after the start of their game” option, which would be ideal. So we have to manually enforce it - no picking up players from pre-Sunday games after kickoff begins, but you can still pick up free agents not involved in any pre-Sunday games.

Yahoo also has the option of putting everyone on waivers at the start of the first game, but most people would agree that everyone in the league going on waivers Thursday nights would blow.

In the keeper league I finally switched to the Sunday-Tuesday automatic waiver system, but added the option of a “start-only” waiver claim for the night games. If an owner wants to sign a player Monday afternoon to actually start for his team in the MNF game, they can email/PM/whatever me with their intention and I’ll manually make the change for them. This is to handle game time decisions for night games while minimizing the “sign this guy solely so my opponent can’t play him” effect that I hate.
