Not the racism alone, but the racism combined with the smug bastardization of the scientific method, the complete rejection of reason, and the failure to defend his position. But as my racism prof said, you have to move beyond righteous indignation. As much as I would like to physically reach out and scoop out the diseased part of NDD’s brain, no amount of evidence will change his mind.
I still want to know why, if most everybody secretly believes in the inferiority of certain races, we say otherwise. Again, NDD’s path is the easiest and the most convenient, requires the least amount of critical thinking, etc. I can see no motive for anti-racists to conceal their true feelings. Not doing anything about racial inequality is the path of least resistance.
I also want to know how you can create the colorblind society you so idealize when race is obviously so important to you.
It looks to me like the mistake you are making is that you don’t understand what your opponents’ actual position is.
Just because the Egalitarian Hypothesis is false doesn’t mean that there cannot be substantial numbers of blacks who are smart enough to become educated professionals.
If you really want to discuss these issues in good faith, maybe you could start by summarizing what my position is and what the best evidence and arguments are for my position. I promise to (attempt to) do the same for you in return.
I believe your opinion is that genetic differences cause blacks to have lower average intelligence than whites. Consequently, the concept of “race” is something you believe can be defined clearly enough to separate almost everyone into a few broad distinct racial groups, which most honest experts would agree with if they were not burdened by political correctness.
You believe your position to be true, because blacks tend to score lower than whites on intelligence tests and perform worse than whites in tasks which require intelligence.
I think you also reject the idea that the above is caused by cultural differences and racism, because you think blacks almost everywhere perform worse than other races almost everywhere, not just in the USA where they have a relatively recent history of slavery and oppression.
For one thing, it is not my position that 100% of the “gap” is the result of genetics. I have no problem believing that some part of the gap is due to non-genetic causes.
Second, the practicality of the concept of race is independent of any differences in intelligence.
Third, I’m not sure what you mean by “distinct,” since it is clear that there are many people who are difficult to classify in one race or another.
Fourth, I do not know what “experts” hold about the practicality (or validity) of race. I do know that there are many scientific studies out there which categorize people on the basis of race. I also think that it doesn’t really matter as far as my basic position goes.
Fifth, it’s not just the existence of the gap which makes me confident my position is correct – it’s also the persistence of the gap in the face of substantial efforts to close it. (As well as the near-universality of the gap in space and time)
Of course you should feel free to, but it won’t change what you did, which was to imply that I had missed some important piece of evidence; accuse me of cherry-picking data; and concluded that I had a “complex” – all without even knowing or caring what my position actually was.
Admittedly, I was pointing that post more toward NDD than you, but really, where is your evidence for “races,” having quantifiable genetic categories that classify them into genetic racial groups as such?
Pointing to things like genetic pathological traits, such as sickle cell anemia doesn’t count, because it’s a congenital, inheritable trait (from both parents), and not limited to people of only African decent.
