I am opposed to repealing the civil rights legislation that was signed during the 1960s. I think it should be narrowly interpreted. I oppose affirmative action and forced school busing.

I am in favor of efforts by the government to reduce economic inequality, but I think these efforts should be made without considering race or sex. Otherwise they will jeopardize white male blue collar workers.

I kinda doubt it. For example, economic populism has produced its fair share of tyranny, brutality, exploitation, and mass murder. And yet in my experience discussions of economic populism don’t produce the same kind of nastiness among people opposed to it.

Those who believe that genetic and racial differences are important are often accused of having an affinity with Nazism. Communism is based on the opposite belief: that genetic and racial differences are unimportant, or non existent.

I am not accusing those who disagree with me about the importance of genes, IQ, and race of being Communists, or even Marxists. However, opinions like those of Charles Murray should be evaluated on their merits, without resorting to the guilt by association fallacy.

Protecting blue collar jobs is only part of the equation. In the long run, people have to get better education and training, in order to be able to compete in a world that changes faster and faster. If you don’t spend some time, money, and energy on better training and education, then your workforce becomes irrelevant and obsolete.

I do agree, though, that affirmative action somewhat misses the point. Poor people everywhere of every race have it bad.

However, let’s not forget that welfare, food stamps, etc. are given without regard to race.

And blacks have suffered generations of low expectations and few opportunities. You really think those internalized low expectations, handed down through the generations is black culture, can be reversed with a few decades of better civil rights and affirmative action?

The fact is, the way welfare has been practiced has largely destroyed the black family in this country. That’s a big part of the problem. That’s not to say that economic help for the poor from the government is always bad; it just needs to be done better. IMHO, anyway.

Because it has the same rights as any other. Affirmative action on behalf of women reduces strength requirements in jobs like police work and fire fighting. Affirmative action on behalf of blacks and Hispanics reduces intellectual requirements. In the process, physical and intellectual requirements are increased for white men.

This does not negatively impact rich white men, but it does negatively impact working class white men. It makes it more difficult for them to get jobs with the government.

Affirmative action does not create jobs. It shifts them from lower income white men to women, blacks, and Hispanics.

You’re seriously playing the grammar/semantics game here? Jesus Christ, man, get a grip. I meant, there’s no set of genes that defines any one race. So races, in a scientific or genetic sense is meaningless. That is: the definition of what a race is is already pretty fuzzy. But most understand it to be a group of humans sharing similar traits. To find a basis for this on the genomic level would be preposterous.

So let me ask you this: is there a genetic trait that can’t be shared/passed on from one “race” to another?

My point is “race” is a superficial grouping of traits. If there is indeed a “dumb” gene, it can be passed onto to any human, regardless of this absurd idea called “race.”

Blacks and whites are members of the same species. No one doubts that. Nevertheless, the differences between them are the same as the differences between sub species of the same animal. For example, mountain lions, panthers, jaguars, and cougars are sub species of the same species the same way that Mongloids, Caucasians, Negroes, and Australian aborigines are different races of the human species.
