SDMB College Basketball contest

There is an SDMB College Basketball Tournament contest started at www.sandbox.net. Here is the original thread by Omniscient called “March Madness 2000!!!”:

I am starting this new thread because the first one was getting full and had a lot of talk not directly related to our SDMB contest. So, if you want to join our contest:

-go to http://rivals.itsmadness.com
-Register your self and then choose ‘join group’.
-Type in ‘Straight Dope’ for the group name
When you’re asked for the password, it’s
cecil (in all lower-case)

I picked MSU to beat Duke in the final.

http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/005916.html is the other thread.

So far, our contest pool has 7 members. Still plenty of time to join. Go to http://rivals.itsmadness.com

This is pissing me off!! I can get through the first part of resgistration, but then when I’m supposed to choose an affiliate team, my login always fails. I also can’t login on the main page. I can, however, go to the change my information page and look at my profile. What am I doing wrong? I tried registering a second time under a different name, but the same thing happens.

I don’t know. Wish I could help. We are up to 9 members so far.

We are up to 9 members. I think you have until tip off in an hour or two if you still want to get in.

Well damn, tied for Fifth.
Just wait, tommorrow I’ll be at the bottom.

I agree with “Curious George”. Michigan State is very solid up and down the lineup, and they are also a veteran team with excellent “chemistry”. They certainly destroyed my Illinois team, which had been playing well, in the Big Ten title game.

I’m a big “Coach K” fan, but I think his “Blue Devils” are not quite seasoned enough to take it all :).

Sorry about the formatting. It's the only way I could think of doing a table.

Um. Round one, not day one.

Stands up and raises hand to overwhelming applause

“Thank you! Thank you!”

Just call me the flukemeister.

Well, scratch that. Thank you, Arizona, for playing like shit.

I am faltering.

I'm not as bad off as I figured I'd be after Kentucky got knocked off. Bacchus is leading, but Divemaster seems to be in the best position, having a significantly higher "possible score" than anyone else.

FYI…Bacchus is yours truely.

I feel good about where I’m at considering I thought I’d be in last after todays blowups. I am going to gloat about picking those Purdue and Wisconsin victories.

I am however completely out of the East…damn clusterfuck of a region. The committee really ate the flaccid one when they loaded that region up with all the talent.

It’s been a very frustrating tourney for me - as far as this contest goes.

I’ve picked some of the upsets (Gonzaga and Pepperdine in the first round), but I also picked a lot of other upsets, and the higher seeds have won more than I can ever remember.

Not to mention my picks always seem to lose by one point in overtime. Probably five of my losses have come by a combined total of 10 points.

Cool games to watch, though.

All I can hope for now is to stay out of the Straight Dope cellar and hope the Spartans can cut down the nets in Indy.

Thanks, Omni. I wasn’t really sure which one you were. Good job on the picks. Lessee, “cbphelan” is Mullinator, and “monona” is curious george. That leaves “divemaster”, who I’m guessing is Jasmine. Everyone else is pretty obvious.

divemaster is divemaster–no tricks.

I’m in good shape b/c of predicting LSU, Tulsa, Tenn., UCLA, and Fla., among higher seeds. (I figured the SEC to show up really well).

And I didn’t jump on several of the highly overrated teams (Maryland???). So, I’m feelin’ pretty good.

However, the way these pools are set up, it is almost impossible to win if you don’t pick the eventual tournament winner in the title game, unless everyone’s pick craps out too.

Hoping that Syracuse wins it all and pulls my butt out of the basement. (Yeah, like there’s a snowball’s chance in he!! of that happening)

Well, this has gone to hell in a handbasket in a major way. My only hope is to not finish too far in last place. I should have stuck with my ESPN picks. I’d be doing a whole lot better at this point.

We went right out there and refused to do accoustical versions of the electrical songs that we had refused to record in the first place.

Just a quick bump in preparation for tomorrow. (Can you tell I’m excited?)
