I was really just trying to keep Moscow until RTFirefly could get there to support me. When he did, and then suggested that I take Warsaw rather than him, why not?
What I was really hoping for was that Frangerland would achieve the breakthrough and Germany’s units would be farther away when I made my move.
Why don’t you join this game? I could show you that I’m really not such a bad guy. Besides, the more lawyers the better, I always say.
Question, Senor Chance: when do you foresee the game starting? I’m out of town and away from internet and email starting tomorrow evening, likely through Monday A.M.
Thanks for the heads-up about my email, Jonathan Chance. It must have reverted back to my old address during the exile. I’ll change it now, and I’ll drop you a line.
As I read more, I’m understanding more about how this is gonna work. I’m looking forward to it. Thanks.
This should top the all-time list of “things you never hear.”
Kind of busy at work at this juncture, though, and strongly suspect I’d either (a) hold up the game with constant requests for extensions, or (b) have to drop out in short order. So I passed on this game.
Just FTR, I will be in Naples, Florida during the first week of April with the 'rents. They have internet access, but I am not sure if I will be able to pay too much attention.
You know how it is. . .
“Play with me, Daddy.”
“Talk to me, Honey.”
Dumb family.
I may or may not need a delay then. Just warning you.
Of course, if it’s anything like Weirddave’s, I’ll probably be out of the game by then.
(I do hope everyone understands how tongue-in-cheek the above was)
No hard feelings at all. I was working on backstabbing your ally anyway. He made her a better offer. (Having me wiped out so that she had no help fending off Sicily)
Anyone who holds a backstab against someone from one game to the next isn’t a true Dipper. (Hell, ofttimes it makes a great deal of sense to let bygones be bygones, within the same game.)

There’s no room for sentiment in the game. Get used to that now.
Steelerphan, you’re in. Choose Austria or Germany.
If we don’t have a taker for the last slot by the morning I’ll ask one of my pals in.
And I think everyone should stop bad mouthing Austria. It’s one of the better countries to play. You’ve got OPTIONS as Austria. Something you don’t have with a corner country.
Of course, sometimes the ‘option’ you have as Austria is whether to organize your final defense so that it’s Russia, or Turkey, that gets Budapest.
I’m not bad-mouthing Austria per se; it was fourth on my preference list. But it’s a lousy country for a newbie, because you’ve got to have at least some sense of what might be coming at you in order to survive the initial onslaught.
If you can survive the first three years, and end 1903 with 4-5 bases that you’re not immediately about to lose any of, then options start opening up.
Austria is fun to play, but you’re going to have to work hard. If you have two people around you rattling sabres, you won’t last past the first verse of “Edelweiss”
Ok, I’ll take Austria. Is this Map 936 or another setup?
Not meant as a hijack, but are there any other games that the rest of you play online, like Axis & Allies or Supremacy? I’m into playing in a few other games.
I think it would be less than fair to begin diplomacy while we’re still missing a player. It would put our eventual Germany at somewhat of a disadvantage to join up in a game where the other six players had already negotiated alliances and stuff.
While nothing’s irrevocable before move orders are due, successful negotiations create a certain amount of momentum that’s hard to undo.
I’m abstaining from email with other players concerning this game until we have a German player, and I would encourage others to do the same, to keep the playing field level.
