And Bass in for Tucker
Dale, you feeling optimistic about starting Hinton?
It’s a great gamble.
I remember a few seasons back it was the Monday night game of either the Championship week or the semis, and the Panthers announced that Joe Webb would be starting QB back when he still had WR eligibility. I don’t think he went nuts exactly, but I think he put up something like 15-17 points and I cruised to an easy victory on that.
It’s a great trick if you can pull it off. I don’t know anything about Hinton, but he failed to win the starting QB job in four seasons at a bad school (Wake Forest).
So good luck with it!
So if something happens with the Ravens game on tuesday, I could potentially wind up hosed at DEF. So what are my options here? I have the Jags also.
You can choose to start the jaguars retroactively in place of the Ravens because it’s a covid related delay, or leave the starting spot open if you don’t want to risk the negative points
But you need to post exactly what your choice is in this thread before either team plays, or no adjustment would be made. So be quick!
I’ll put myself on the hook for the Jags if the Ravens don’t play.
Wayne Gallman is officially a TD machine! 5 straight games. To think, I was ready to sell him for pennies a few weeks back after Barkley went down.
Let’s see how I feel when the late games get closer! But yes, with Burrow out, I can’t feel good about Higgins. John Brown is on IR, I could have plugged in a TE, but except for Logan Thomas, they’re all hot garbage. So, Hinton, the WR/QB it is. ESPN changed him to QB only but yahoo hasn’t.
I took another chance by starting Mostert. His Instagram says he’s playing, but if he’s a decoy or pulls up hurt in warmups, I’m hosed. I can’t make a drop to pick up anyone since I forgot to drop the Washington D.
Oh, well, I said I’m all in for this season so let’s see what happens!
While I’m covering bases, I’ll take S. Watkins in lieu of G. Edwards, if something happens to BAL.
You can’t do that one because Watkins can’t go into the spot Edwards is currently in
Well, we can switch Hill for Edwards, right? That’s what I would have done if I was thinking properly.
We’d have to figure out how to handle it and hopefully it’ll become a moot point. I tend to be lenient/bend the rules to favor someone as long as it’s clear they’re not trying to exploit the rules.
The owner-lenient fix would be to stick Hill in your RB slot (because Hill had already started the game before you declared a desire to swap him) and then stick Edwards in the flex spot. We could then play Watkins in that flex spot over Edwards if the Ravens don’t play. This seems reasonable to me, but other people may disagree, because managing your fixed position and flex spots to better be prepared for unexpected circumstances is one of the management skills of a fantasy roster.
I’m cool with that, but I’d want to put it up for discussion. Hopefully Baltimore plays and it doesn’t matter.
That sounds reasonable to me
Well, the Hinton experiment didn’t work, but I’m going to win this week anyway. And, I got to to make up for my week without a QB!
I didn’t post in advance, but if it’s allowed I’d like to swap Andrews for Rudolph. Andrews tested positive just today after it was too late for me to make the switch before the noon kickoffs. Pretty sure it will have no effect on my game, but while we’re in COVID hell might as well.
We do need to come to a consensus on the trade deadline.
I’m fine with allowing trades until right up until the finals.
I’m willing to talk trades in the off season but I won’t make anything official until we get closer to starting the 2021 draft. If other teams want to make definite deals in the off season, I have no objection
I think trades need to be shut off before the playoffs start. We simply can’t have teams on the outside looking in, selling every useful player for future picks to the playoff contenders. Honestly, I can’t believe that this seems like a minority opinion. Maybe that’s because the vocal folks here have something to gain from trades in the coming weeks.
This kind of stuff needs to be hammered out in the pre-season. At this point almost everyone has a vested interest here.
It wouldn’t even necessarily be picks a playoff team would be swapping, perhaps they’ve got somebody on IR or suspension that isn’t of use now for a playoff team but will be helpful as trade bait to a team on the outside looking in this season
I do like coming out of the draft each year with an extra pick or two in my back pocket, I don’t want to trade those picks usually, but if it helped me win the league this season, I’d certainly do it.
This isn’t a one year money league where there’s a collusion possibility. If I’m breathing, I’m back for 2021 and we’ve had remarkably little turnover.
I’m pretty sure we’ve had a consensus on this in the past. Anyone remember? Each year’s thread is pretty long.
I hope you’re not talking about me. I have a 16 year history on the SDMB of running my leagues fairly and, if anything, holding any rules most harshly against myself in the interest of propriety.
The reason I don’t generally worry about harsh rule enforcement in this league is because I trust everyone here to act reasonably, fairly, and in the best interest in the league. I don’t know if we have any explicit anti-tanking rule, for instance. But I trust the people in this league not to tank, because they know it upsets league balance and it’s unfair. So I’m not really on the lookout for trying to create or enforce any sort of anti-tanking rules, I trust you guys.
Similarly, I’m not too concerned with some sort of unfair trade behavior because I trust everyone to act in the best interest of the league. I honestly don’t remember what rules we have about the trading deadline - a lot of the rules we made 11 years ago when the league started and we’ve never really had to worry about enforcing them so I’d have to go dig them up to figure it out. Our rule may be that trading shuts down when yahoo closes trading, but I thought in the past we’ve been pretty flexible about allowing trades at any time. I don’t think we’ve ever had this tested.
I’m fine with shutting down trading after the latest yahoo date, which this year would’ve been Nov 28 (just before week 12 started), which means we’d be shut down now. I’d also be fine with extending it a week or two, as I don’t think having a rebuilding team selling players late in the season is really a problem, I consider it to be within the normal strategy of a dynasty league and not inherently harmful, but if others disagree, that’s fine. I’ll try to dig around later to see if we ever discussed this and made a rule early in the league’s history.
If anyone wants to chime in as to when they think trading should shut down, please do so. We do allow offseason trades, so I don’t see any reason trading shouldn’t open up again right after the season completes.
If I can’t find anything to the contrary in earlier threads, I think it’s safe to use whatever the last available trade date on yahoo (Nov 28) as our trade deadline, but we can discuss if we want to shift that to week 13 or 14 in the future. If I do find something to the contrary in the rules, I’ll post about it.
