Hall of Fame Game opened preseason on July 31
Cuts be due either Mon Aug 24 at 12 noon eastern or Aug 30 at 7pm eastern, pending discussion and a vote. I will address this later.
Draft begins 1 minute after the cut deadline, depending on where we set it.
NFL Season opener: Wednesday, Sep 9
Trading is open all year except the day of the final game of the regular fantasy season until the championship game. Which is to say there’s no trading in the playoffs.

The NFL has been changing the preseason schedule and the 53 man roster cuts over the last few years. They cut out the 4th preseason game entirely. This year the season launches on Wednesday (Sep 9) rather than Thursday, which gives us one less day to complete the draft.
So before we set a date for cuts and the beginning of the draft, I’m going to hold a vote. Would you rather draft at the end of week 2 of the preseason (starting Monday Aug 24 at noon) or after the third preseason games and after the 53 man cut deadline? That would be Monday Aug 30 at 7pm eastern. 7pm because the NFL deadline to cut down to 53 man rosters is 6pm, and we’ll give people a little time to finalize their cuts. (Most NFL teams shouldn’t go down to the deadline, but just in case).
If we set the draft on Aug 30, that gives us 10 days to complete the draft, if we’re willing to run right up to the beginning of the first game. Aug 24 gives us 6 more days of breathing room and most likely lets us have a waiver wire period after the draft is complete but before that first game of the week starts. The downside to starting earlier is that you don’t get to see players play in preseason 3 week, and it’s possible you might keep a player that gets cut after you keep them.
In the event that we choose the Aug 30 date, I will likely have to be stricter about enforcing the 12 hour pick window rule and in general we will have to pick up the pace.

It was also proposed that you could designate a player as one you wanted to retroactively cut if they don’t end up making their team. In other words, you’d keep a player, but say “if he gets cut by his team by the 53 man cut down date, I would like to retroactively cut him” - that team would then get one more draft pick at the end of the draft, the same as if they had cut that player originally. That gives relief in the case that they keep a player who ends up getting cut later because our cut date was before the NFL’s 53 man roster cut down date.
This poll will only be relevant if we decide to start the draft on Aug 24. Otherwise it won’t matter because the draft will start after the 53 man rosters are set.

Bylaw update/codification. We’re not going to re-litigate the balanced trade rule, but we discussed last year whether the “and their last” should be their natural pick they started the draft with or their last pick at the time the trade is executed. Jules made a very compelling argument that if we go with the former, a manager could only make as many trades as they had draft picks, which is a needless limitation. So we’re going to go with his proposal that it’s the last pick that a team owns at the time the trade is executed, and trades are executed in sequence from when they were announced. You guys shouldn’t concern yourself with this, it’s just a bit of bookkeeping, and whatever pick you get back is a freebie anyway. If you’re concerned about how exactly your trades are balanced, you can always specify exactly what balances them in the trade (ie “my 2nd for his 5th”). I’m just putting it here for transparency. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry your pretty little head, this is how we’ve been doing it and it has been working smoothly so far. This is just official codification after discussion last year.
This is a situation that is not likely to come up, but we had a discussion if a manager drafted a player, but a player decided to go back to college and re-enter the draft, we agreed the manager who drafted that player would retain the rights and would just get him added to his roster the next year. This is so unlikely to matter and uncontroversial enough that it will become a bylaw without an explicit vote.
Spiritus Mundi suggested that two way players (who play offense and defense) should get scoring for scoring defensive plays like an interception or especially an interception return for TD, and I agree with that, but I don’t think it’s possible to add that to the league scoring without having IDP scoring. There’s just no category for it outside of D/ST scoring to add those points to individual players. It’s likely very minor - it’s extremely rare that a player plays both ways and Travis Hunter will probably be put on offense without his injuries, but I tried to see if it was possible.
There were a few other rule proposals or potential rule proposals in last year’s thread, but I will post about those in a future post. This is enough for now. Feel free to propose your own rule or bylaw changes if you can think of any you had in mind.
