SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 12

I’m interested in trading up in the second round. Kendrick Bourne, Tim Patrick, Chris Herndon, Noah Fant, David Njoku, Adrian Peterson, Rex Burkhead, Myles Gaskin and Jameis Winston are all available for trade.

Trade to announce!

Ides of Martz (Omni) trades 2.01 and 4.01 to Exploding Pancakes (SenorBeef)
Exploding Pancakes trades 2.03 and 3.03 to Ides of Martz

Should be a pick announcement incoming from Beef.

2.1 Jalen Reagor WR

@Overly_Sentimental is up

Reagor is generally regarded by consensus as a first round WR, a lot of sites have him ranked as WR3/4 in the draft. Opinions of him different a decent bit. But he’s a very high upside pick - the ideal comparison is DeSean Jackson which is the same guy he’ll be learning under to replace. This is supposed to be a good draft for WR and I decided I was going to take what most people considered the last guy of the first tier. It wasn’t a huge trade, but it didn’t cost me too big either - moving from the 3.03 to 4.01 is a significant 10 spots, but after the third round it’s usually a big gamble anyway. Felt good about getting a high upside pick here.

Dont listen to RNATB, he’s really not all that bright. If my guy is still available, I’m interested in trading up in the second round. Christian Kirk, Darrel Williams, Mike Williams, Jared Cook, Mike Gesicki, or Boston Scott are all available.

Is that your first trade in the history of this league, Omni? I recall I couldn’t find a record of one in the draft threads when I looked, but I may have missed it by way of not being in the league the first seven years or so.

It might be. Can’t recall one happening during the draft anyways.

So, one thing I thought about was game postponements. I’d say we be open to the idea of allowing an owner to temporarily drop a player if they need an emergency D/ST or kicker and then reclaim without having to worry about them.

No idea how the NFL would approach such a situation, this isn’t baseball where it gets made up with a doubleheader. But no one should be forced to take a zero in K or D/ST because of anything weird

That’s a really, really good point. It might be that the nfl doesn’t give any notice about a positive test that causes a game to be postponed. I would suggest that if a game is cancelled within 12 hours of kickoff, we enact a rule about allowing retroactive lineup changes to the highest projected point total on your bench. In the event you don’t have anyone, we might need to do an agreement that anyone dropped to replace that player/defense can’t be picked up for a week. Again, only the highest projected points would be added to maintain hindsight fairness.

Normally, I would say that it should stay with your bench only. Depth matters. But because of bye weeks, that just isn’t a good enough solution. We don’t have enough available kickers and defenses to have everyone have 3 of each. With defenses, it might be even better to choose to take a zero, considering what is available and what can happen on a bad night.

I think we will want to remain flexible on this. I suspect that when something unexpected happens on short notice, the entire fantasy community, likely Yahoo itself, will institute some kind of policy. If they fail or otherwise come up with something silly that doesn’t work in this style of league then we can adapt.

Nothing wrong with having some ideas, but we don’t want to be in a position where the broader system has one solution and we have another. That would leave us debating which policy we choose.

In the end we might end up in a situation where doing less is more. Someone might get screwed by a last minute cancellation, but they won’t be alone, in some cases the entire league will be affected. One counter argument to the idea of adding players off the waiver wire is that it might end up being prejudicial against a team with streaming strategy or a injury to fill in for. If the best available player at a position is given to the “harmed” manager then that player is not available to others who would need them in the course of normal fantasy ups and downs. Also, if a game gets cancelled that will effect 2 teams, likely 2 managers will be without a defense and kicker…how would you decide which gets the top available and who gets the second best?

We could always pull an MLB and add a 26th roster spot to add a second kicker to every team (I believe all of us already carry at least two defenses).

I’m basically ready to make this pick but I’m trying to listen to offers to trade down, so I’m giving it a few hours. Anyone interested in trading up let me know.

Yahoo caps the roster at 25. Weed have to do an agreement outside of the system, which would involve an add/drop.

We do have a waiver priority system to determine which team gets first “pick.” Or we can use record

Check your PMs

It’s looking like my 2.04 pick may be early tomorrow morning.

EDIT: Also, if you tag me (“mention” me), be aware that I went ahead and got rid of my unsightly underscore.

It’s fine if you need time for whatever reason. If you’ve had trade feelers, or working out a deal, or something unexpected happened and you need to do some research. But please don’t leave the pick open just in case someone comes in several hours later to make an offer. It usually doesn’t happen that way, people usually reach out before it’s your pick or soon after. If everyone did this, the draft would move very slowly.

Make sure you remember to check your PMs, it’s not as obvious on the new board because they don’t pop up anymore. You have to go into your messages by clicking your avatar on the top right and clicking the messages tab.

Trade:
Hamlet receives:
2.02

Overly sentimental receives:
2.12
Christian Kirk, WR, Ari

Hamlet will also have to get Overly’s last pick to keep the trade balanced in picks/players

I have a pretty good, pretty deep roster, so I don’t really need to draft for need. And, although I’m already pretty set at the position, I think this player will be a generational player and a stud for years.

Joe Burrow, QB, Cincy

I like Kirk, but I figured there would be no way Burrow makes it to me at 12. It’s likely very stupid to move up to draft a QB when I already have Mahomes, but, again, I love me some Burrow.

That is a really high price for a player you may never start, but I can’t argue with the talent evaluation. He may not have lasted to the 4th pick of this round, considering @Omniscient moved back to 3. It will be interesting to find out if that was his target.
