SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 13

Schedules - I’m fine with keeping them as is

Consolation Bowl - against having effect on draft order

Kicker/Def - I’m pretty ambivalent, so unless I’m the vote to untie it doesn’t really matter to me.

I guess I’m in.

Tentative drops (in case I forget): Adrian Peterson, Rex Burkhead, Kendrick Bourne, Tim Patrick, Jimmy Garroppolo.

Are we missing anybody from checking in?

That’s everybody

Last year you expressed disinterest/disatisfaction with the league here and here. In one, you said you’d play this year just to make sure we had a full number of owners, and in the other you said that this league sucks.

Now - the low turnover and long time commitment of the members of this league is a key part of it, so I’ve been grateful to people sticking it through and maybe even playing in years they weren’t really into it, and in general the level of commitment people have shown. Stability is key to long term team development and a sense of ownership, and it can also be hard to get new owners who we can reliably prediction will stick around for years, too.

But I also don’t want you to keep playing if you don’t like being in the league and just do it out of a sense of obligation or if you think it sucks. I do appreciate that you were willing to do that despite being disinterested for the sake of the league. In this case, Jules has a friend who’s really into FF and is interested in joining our league, and would join the boards and participate highly in the league. If you don’t like playing in the league anymore (and it sounds like you don’t), it’s okay to bow out and let someone with more enthusiasm take your spot.

I don’t want to make that an open offer to everyone right now - I hope the rest of you are still enjoying the league and want to be back - and it would be difficult to replace several people at once. But in this case, since you seem to only grudgingly join out of a sense of obligation, would you like to bow out now with no hard feelings and let someone else who is more enthusiastic about this take over your team?

I’ll bow out if you have someone to take my spot.

Hey everybody,

Jules let me know I’m taking over for Petey (hence the username). My name is Al and I’m looking forward to finishing in the middle of the standings for years to come. I just got the invite so I will go back and read the board posts I’ve missed and get more familiar with this league. I’m happy to be aboard.

Welcome!!

Well I’m sorry you weren’t enjoying the league recently, but I appreciate sticking it out and then bowing out gracefully when the time came. Thanks for playing all these years.

Al, PeteyPart2 (that’s a bit of a silly name), is one of Jules’ friends. Jules talked to him about our league and he was really interested in getting into a long term dynasty league, so he seemed like a good candidate in case we needed a replacement. Welcome aboard. I encourage you to check this thread sometimes and post - participation is a big part of what makes this league fun and I think we could definitely use more of that this year.

You’re actually taking over a pretty solid team with a lot of talent, so that should help the transition for you. Feel free to ask us any questions about rules, procedures, or even strategy. You can use the board’s private message function to send trade offers/discussions or use yahoo. I do strongly encourage everyone to check and reply to your PMs with trade offers, some of you are better than others. Even if you don’t like an offer, just say so - being known as someone willing to talk/deal might get you offers that you really like later on.

Welcome, Al! Thanks, Petey, for being a solid competitor these years. I appreciate you being willing to bow out gracefully. Best wishes to you!

Now, everyone, Al is MY friend, so I get first dibs to cheat him in trades.

Al has been playing fantasy football for a long time, and he’s pretty good at it. He’s been beating up on his college buddies for a while, so he is ready for a real challenge. I told him most of you all weren’t that, but hey. We play the cards we’re dealt. It’ll be a fun season to see how he manages a team that has legit stars and not a ton of depth.

I should add that you can rename your team to anything you want. We discourage renaming teams year to year (because it really makes it hard to keep track of who is who) but you can certainly give the team your own name/identity to start.

Welcome to the league! I agree it’s a bit of a silly name; not too late to (ask the mods to) change it to something more about you than about your predecessor. The idea is you’ll be around for years. Best to have your own identity. And definitely make your team name your own.

People typically cut 3 to 5 players each year. You’re welcome to cut as many as you want, but by round 3 or 4 it’s already slim pickings. As in, you have to confirm if any of the remaining choices has or will even make a final 53-man roster.

EDIT: …or whatever the roster size is now with the 17-game season.

Welcome.

Would it be too much trouble to ask someone to PM me my team roster? My Yahoo account was tied to a ATT email (from the early 2000s) that was then unmerged and now had been fully disabled. I haven’t been able to access my account, which last week I was told it was fixed - it wasn’t.

I can send ownership of your team to a new e-mail address which you can then join on a different yahoo account. Just PM me the new address.

Edit: Or if you want to keep waiting to see if it gets fixed, tell me that and I’ll send the roster.

Welcome to the league, Al. Good Luck.

Gentlemen,

Message has been heard about the username. I thought it would be (slightly) funny icebreaker. I will come up with a new one tonight after work and after my kid goes to bed. I don’t know if I can top the name Senor Beef, but I will try.

I’ve never been in a league where you can trade draft picks. This should be fun.

Welcome Al. You are now the official wearer of the “newest guy in the league” hat. Three things to keep in mind:

  1. He who rosters Josh Gordon rules the world.
  2. Jules would trade his own grandmother if he thought it would give him an edge in the Monday night game in week 6.
  3. Your team name doesn’t need to match your username.

As I sit here pondering trade ideas, it kind of is. Couple notes on our trading rules:

  • We can also trade future draft picks, though I think it’s limited to next year’s picks only.

  • It is strongly encouraged / possibly required that all trades leave everyone with 25 roster spots in all years. So no trading one guy for two, as then you can’t fit everyone and they’re one short. In this context, a draft pick (for this year) is the same as a player. So a player for a pick is fine. You’ll frequently see larger trades that include “and my last pick” as a way to keep things balanced.

And just to spell it out, you get a pick for every guy you cut. Cut 4 guys, get four draft picks, rounds 1 through 4. We do not snake; you get the same position every round, which in your case this year is 8th.

One quick note: Be careful of trading late-round future picks, because once next year comes you might not end up wanting to cut that many guys. (Here again, “and my last pick next year” solves the issue nicely.)

Correction, you get a pick for every guy you need to get back to 25. If you have 27 because two guys were on IR at the end of last year, you’d have to cut 3 just to get a single pick.
