SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 13

Actually I have a rules question: I seem to recall us ending IR draft picks, correct? So I don’t get a draft pick for Cam Akers, who tore his Achilles last month and will miss the whole year?

FWIW, I thought “PeteyPart2” was hilarious, although you could have had RyPetey and scored a 10 with your first post. Anyway, welcome to the league!

I don’t see where anyone mentioned it but the league bylaws require you to trade me your first-round pick for my fourth-rounder. Just trust me on this.

Right, IR Picks went away (they may have been just a one season experiment, but I can’t remember).

So you won’t get an extra pick, but since the IR Picks were at the end, putting Akers on IR instantly after the draft and then picking up somebody off waivers is functionally identical.

Also, welcome to PeteyPart2!

I have been convinced. PeteyPart2 shall remain!

Will the commish please send me a league invite to Email address removed? I would like to peruse everyone’s rosters in order to make some trade offers that look great for me initially and then end up being truly terrible for my team.

We made this a requirement, but during the draft only. It isn’t possible for us to complete the draft and finalize rosters unless everyone finishes the draft with 25 players, so there has to be an equal number of picks/players in every trade during the draft. During the season, Yahoo allows lopsided trades where an owner can drop someone to make room, as normal. Great reminder, though, thanks!

This is also a really important reminder. You are required to make enough cuts to satisfy your trade requirements from the previous season. So, if you trade a 2022 third round pick during this coming draft, you are required to cut enough players next draft to get to 3 picks.

This gets tricky using a “last pick” clause, too. Say I trade my 1st to you this year for a 3rd, in exchange for your 1st for my last pick next year. Next year rolls around, and I only have one player I can cut, then I essentially made my “last pick” my first rounder. I try to remind people each year about these little technicalities so that no one is surprised by them, but trading next year’s picks is playing with fire. Which I love to do, apparently.

I actually tried to send you an owner transfer invite last night to that address which Jules gave me - I just tried again now. Are you not receiving those invites? If not, I’ll probably have to delete the team and then send you a normal invite.

Btw, I would suggest not posting your e-mail openly on a forum like that, because web crawling bots will pick it up and send you spam. I reported it for a moderator to edit out the e-mail address to avoid that. You can send private messages to people on the boards by clicking on your avatar on the top right, and then double clicking the messages icon. This is also a good way to send trade offers instead of yahoo since you can include messages/discussion with it.

To explain the draft pick thing a little better: on draft day, however many players on your roster you have under 25 is how many draft picks you get. The goal is to get your team back up to 25. Players with the IR tag, put in the IR position on yahoo, do not count against that 25, so you can actually finish the season with more than 25 people on your roster.

So, let’s say you have 2 players on IR at the end of the year. Now you have 27 players on your roster. If you want 3 draft picks (rounds 1, 2, and 3) you’d need to cut 5 players to get down to 22 players, and then 22 players + 3 draft picks = 25.

Now, to explain the pick swap thing. Let’s say that owner A and owner B both have 3 draft picks, and therefore 22 players on their roster. They both have a first, second, and third round pick.

Owner A decides to trade his late round first and second round pick to owner B for owner B’s early first round pick. Owner A has given 2 picks and received one back, which means that while they both have 22 players on their roster, owner B now has 4 draft picks and owner A only has 2. So B has 22+4 and A has 22+2. Owner B cannot end up with 26 players because the rosters fill at 25, and yahoo won’t let us end the draft if Owner A only has 24 players out of the required 25.

Which is why we have to balance it out. Owner B takes his last round pick - the one he could not use because it would be his 26th roster spot - and sends it to player A, who now has enough picks to finish the draft by having 25 players. I used 3 draft picks each in this example, but it would work the same way if player B had 10 draft picks. Whatever his last pick was - the one he couldn’t use - would go back to player A.

So the trade would actually be player A gives up his first and second rounders for player B’s first rounder and last round pick (whether that be third rounder or 10th rounder). Direct player for pick swaps work fine without any balancing - because one side is giving up a player, and the other one is giving up a draft pick, everyone’s team still adds up to 25. Trades must work out so that every player ends the draft with a total of 25 players, whether they be players they kept last year or new draft picks.

Also, drafts are not only rookies, they are anyone who is not on a roster. So all unowned players from last year are also available to draft. The vast majority of players drafted are rookies, but occasionally some unowned player becomes desirable to have (last year, Rob Gronkowski as an example came out of retirement and was unowned and someone drafted him) so they can get drafted.

FYI, you need to use the web based version of Yahoo fantasy football. You can’t see your roster on the app. And, Yahoo continues to have the most annoying two factor identification I’ve ever seen.

I guess it’s been awhile since I’ve actually used a message board. Thank you for having my email address removed.

I am not, however, receiving the actual league invites. I’ve checked my spam folder as well and they are not in there.

Ellis hooked me up. Thank you much by the way.

I’ve been told it shouldn’t be an issue just trying to traverse the Yahoo support team to find the person to actually help seems to be the biggest obstacle. I was told it was a major issue last year and the year before, but that in the first in a while.

Jules helped me out with an invite to an old yahoo email address of mine so I’m officially in the league. I am officially open for trade business.

I’m in southwestern CT, one of the extended suburbs of NYC. Apparently Hurricane Henri is bearing down on us. Here’s what my power company (Eversource) said yesterday:

So what they’re saying is I have a 50/50 chance to lose power starting early tomorrow morning (Sunday) and not get power back until anywhere from August 30th to September 12th. Yikes.

Looks like I’ll be posting my cuts later tonight. I’m assuming I can still get online with my phone as needed for the draft, but without wifi it won’t work in the house. I can drive to somewhere it works without wifi I’m sure.

We’re about a week away from the cut down deadline and the start of the draft. We haven’t really had much issue with people missing the cut down deadline, but as a reminder it is technically the same time the draft starts. It is better if you can get cuts in early so we have time to go in and update Yahoo to reflect them. Not a big deal, though, since we can do it over the first day of picks. I’ll get the party started.

Since I do team reviews after the draft, I won’t put any commentary here.

I had two on IR, so this gives me 3 picks

If you have phone service but not data, I could give you my phone number and we could text updates to conduct your draft if you want.

I’m going to probably be stricter on timing the picks this year, I think. Last year we had a few delays that really pissed people off and dragged the draft to a halt. Please have a plan for what you’re doing when your pick is approaching. Trade talks are fine, but don’t just say “hey, I’ve got 10 hours left to make my pick, I’m going to listen to trade offers” and then not show up the next day. That goes for people who are potentially wanting to trade into slots too - put out some feelers to show your interest so they can gauge whether they should talk it out or just make their picks.

I’m not sure if we should have a hard and fast rule with no give - like, 12 hours after it’s your pick, the next guy can just pick - or if we should try to be softer and accommodate people a little more. Any opinions on that?

If you’re going to be unavailable and tell us ahead of time, we’ll probably be more lenient, but remember that you can PM me a list of players you want to draft and I won’t open up your PM until it’s your pick and then I can make the pick for you if you’re going to be away from the boards for 12+ hours when your pick is coming up.

This may change, but as of right now I’m planning to make three cuts, which would give me 2.10, 3.10, and Nine Inch Neils’s last pick

Yay, I’m back in. I’ll look over my roster and submit cuts later tonight.

I think I misread that statement. I would certainly fire the PR person who gave it. In hindsight, I think what they were trying to say was: “50% to 69% of our customers may experience some kind of disruption. It will take between 8 and 21 days to restore every last one of them to full service.”

I live on a main road through the center of town so we typically get power back early. Last August when I lost power for 5 days straight, I remember it being 2 or 3 weeks before everyone was restored.

Moot in any case. Someone in my town must have been doing some really good deeds because our town was almost biblicly spared. Henri parked its ass right on top of Connecticut and chilled, with my entire town fully in the eye. We got almost no rain or wind at all. Clocks not even blinking.

Check out this image: (My tiny town, too small to appear on any map, is around 20 minutes north of Stamford.)

This is what the map looked like pretty much all day, with the storm swirling counterclockwise in place. It was nuts.
