I try to keep my FAAB expenditures low, but I like having enough to get a player that I really need and could make or break my season.
Had Dak still been very questionable, I would have to gone big for a QB with Heinicke on bye and Wilson still out

It’s really difficult for any player to beat the entire field. Someone unexpected may beat AP. But it’s unlikely that the perceived value of any future waiver wire players - which is really what FAAB value is based on - will be higher than Peterson. In other words, it is unlikely that, had he saved his money rather than betting big, there is a player he’d rather spend it on in the future than he’d like to spend on AP now. And the time-value of FAAB diminishes, too, since the later you pick someone up the less good they can do for your season.
This is all objectively true. But also, subjectively, AP has a lot more value to my team than other potential, hypothetical, future waiver additions because 3 of my 4 RBs are on IR, and I am going into a match against one of the top teams in the league. AP represents the only available option who has regular opportunity in his immediate projection. Someone who looks likely to get 10-15 touches is more valuable to me than someone who is younger, faster, more explosive, and who is most likely only going to get 2-4 touches. Even if the latter player eventually broke a couple long plays and ended up with more points at the end of the season, I wouldn’t be able to count on it happening this week. And I can’t start that player over the other options I have who will be healthy after this week, so those hypothetical points are useless to me.
There are some… questionable takes in the history of this league. But “spending FAAB on a position of need for a player who just got opportunity is dumb because he won’t get 20 carries in an age where no one gets 20 carries regularly and it’s a waste of FAAB unless he outscores every other player on the wire regardless of position” is just… yikes.
Do both. We announce trades in the threads - if the people who agreed to the trade don’t do it, I will, just so it’s open and visible to everyone and often when people look back on trades and keep records of them they look through the threads rather than yahoo history.
Yeah, I barely look at Yahoo except to set lineups. I depend mainly on the SDMB for this league
Well OBJ was basically put on in-school suspension for the rest of the year. He was basically told he wouldn’t be needed for the rest of the year, which has to be good for my team, because at least I won’t be tempted to start OBJ at some point. I can only hope he goes somewhere next year and then succeds out of spite.
Why they didn’t just trade him for anything in return I’m not sure, it probably has something to do with cap implications or something.
I’m 90% sure this is an OBJ thing and not a Browns thing. The organization is otherwise healthy and has their head on straight, OBJ is consistently a problem. I actually expect the Browns offense to get significantly better, as it generally does when OBJ is out.
I am super pumped that now I finally get the real Jarvis Landry back. Not that he was ever great, but he was terrible with OBJ on the field.
Trade to announce:
HungryHungryHaruspex receives:
WR Calvin Ridley
QB Russell Wilson
2022 Last pick
Warner’s Brother’s receives:
WR Antonio Brown
QB Jalen Hurts
2022 2nd round pick
I’m trying my hardest to not be an asshole fantasy football manager. Don’t know how long it will last.
I sure am glad I’m not facing Jonathan Taylor this week. My condolences, Peteys.
So mere days after I stuck up for Aaron Rodgers, (you may recall a contentious trade I made to get him), I fully believe he’s out to make me look like an idiot. Fortunately, he’s making himself look way worse.
I’m going to extend the benefit of the doubt (at least until the next round of bad press), and assume he got caught out with this, panicked, and swallowed some Rogan pamphlets at the least second before his podcast hit.
But God bless, he really managed to say about every single idiotic thing available regarding COVID. And I guess I’m just part of that “woke mob” who believes in science and thinks that societal responsibility is everybody’s interest, but FUCKING COME ON MY DUDE!
Rodgers invoked MLK during his anti vax bullshit. Is this real life anymore? There are some major glitches in our simulation universe.
I wonder if Rodgers is genuinely an idiot (the homeopathic treatment suggests so), or if he’s trying to hit all the conservative buzzwords to get most football fans to support him for being an idiot and it’s all a PR move. Like, I get that he’s an idiot to be in this position in the first place, but I wonder if all this “oh the woke crowd is hunting me down with cancel culture!” stuff is genuine stupidity or a PR move designed to gain support from idiots.
I have more players eligible for IR slots than I have IR slots, and that’s pretty impressive when you’ve got 6 IR slots. And then I have Allen Robinson, who I wish I could put in an IR slot, because he’s not going to be of any use till next year anyway. I’m hoping that OBJ and Robinson getting into different situations gets some of their value back.
Some weeks I’m barely scraping a roster together. At least my Allen/Chubb/Pitts/Deebo core is strong.
I’m going to get David Montgomery back soon and there’s a chance OBJ lights it up elsewhere just for spite so I’ve got that going for me.
I’m probably not going to be near a computer Sunday morning and I’ve got two players who are gametime decisions. I just want to make my intentions clear in case I can’t update my roster myself.
→ If Kyler Murray is announced as OUT before 1:00, please replace him with Tyrod Taylor at QB.
→ If Elijah Mitchell is announced as OUT before 4:00, please replace him with JaMycal Hasty at RB.
Bah, I should’ve done what you did. I was going to start Donovan Peoples-Jones over the ARob but he was questionable and I was out too late and slept through my alarm before the game started and didn’t make the switch when he was in. Just had a 60 yard TD rec. I think DPJ is probably going to become a borderline starter now that OBJ is gone.
The Cardinals aren’t making a decision on Kyler until after 3, so I went and put Tyrod in. Not working out yet, maybe I should have given Big Ben a chance.
I like Peoples-Jones, hopefully he puts up a good game today and any other week when you’re not playing me.
With all the talk from the Cardinals about big picture, I benched him in my money league as well since I only had Mac Jones as a backup.
My recent trade with dale was accepted through PM, so it wasn’t actually submitted on Yahoo. I’ll update the rosters sometime tonight since it has been 2 days and can’t affect this week.
Looking over my roster, everyone on my team is pretty much someone I love as a player. I don’t really have anyone I’m looking to unload anymore, so I am not sure where the avenues for trades are. There are a couple players I wish I had more, but they are too expensive to acquire or outright unavailable.
Then again, predictably, my team is underperforming yet again. I have scored under yahoo projections more frequently than any other team, and my total points under projection is second highest in the league. Yahoo’s projections are close to useless; even still, it is hard to have an unluckier season considering all the injuries, too. So maybe I’ll blow it all up and start over, who knows
Well, another terrible week for me. I guess I can console myself by knowing even if I had made every correct roster decision, I still lose.
I was initially afraid that Love would come in and dazzle and make it easy for GB to let Rodgers walk, but now I think he probably has more leverage than ever despite his bad PR. I don’t actually think anything negative comes of this for him beyond revealing what a troll he is. (Also I learned this weekend that “Fauci-ism” is a thing, cause that’s where we are now.) The League will probably give the Team a wrist slap and hope all this gets forgotten and rolled up by the next news cycle.
So I think I’m standing pat for the moment, Rodgers, Adams, Henderson are pieces to build around in the medium term. Trading down in the second round (I think) for Christian Kirk looks like the best move I’ve made to date. The guy Jefferson feels like a promising boom-bust deep threat especially if Stafford stays a few years at a high level. Patrick for the Broncos feels like a steady if unexciting guy for them to keep long term, certainly a good find for me off waivers. Mattison feels like a guy that might be a quality starter if he can get traded or out from behind Cook. Dice-roll that one of the Raiders WRs pans out. Friermouth is obviously the second coming and no downgrade from Kittle.
So a little luck, some savvy drafting, and I’m right back in this in…two years.
I don’t think the league wants anything to do with punishing Green Bay, they’ve gotten past the National Anthem stuff and Rodgers definitely isn’t the only unvaccinated loon spewing nonsense in the league.
