SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 13

You’re playing the unluckiest team maybe in the history of the league, so I’d say you’ve got more than an even shot

I said that half in jest, but it has been a brutally unlucky season with injuries and inopportunely-timed terrible games. Even if I hold on to this win and make the playoffs, I can’t see how I can field a full roster with all the injuries I’ve sustained. I’ll need some help from someone getting healthy. It’s been a weird, agonizing season. I really love my team. At no point since I joined have I liked my team as much as I do now. Top to bottom, I have most of my favorite players, and I love the profile of everyone else as a prospect/asset. This is the magic of a dynasty league, seeing how this team has shaped up from an orphan to becoming a roster full of players I can’t imagine trading away. I guess you can’t have both joy and fortune, though.

If I’m reading this correctly, if the games finish according to projection (very likely), Jules has won the Northeast, Hamlet the Midwest. I’ve locked up a playoff spot, but my game with RNATB next week will decide if it’s the division or the wildcard. The only other playoff spot is up for grabs between RNATB and re-Petey. If I beat RNATB, and Peteys beats Dale, they’ll both end up with 9 wins, and points scored, not division record, is the first tie breaker for the wildcard. Peteys has an edge in total points scored, but not by such a margin that it can’t change during the last week. If either of those things don’t happen, RNATB gets the last slot.

Well I may have called it too soon. I had a 2 point deficit on Dale who had Deonte Harris, but I had Josh Allen and Dawson Knox still to play. I think yahoo put me at a 95%+ favorite. But after the Pats shut down the Bills passing game for the first half, and did nothing but run, it’s just about 50/50.

Well shit, that was a pretty unusual outcome. I don’t have a playoff spot locked up - I need to either beat RNATB next week, or Dale has to beat Peteys.

I’m the league high scorer and I need help to make the playoffs. This is a disaster of biblical proportions. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… MASS HYSTERIA!

If it is any consolation, I tear up a little bit when I see you have only one player on your roster on IR, and he was a 3rd round rookie pick.

I didn’t notice that Beef lost last night. It has been pointed out to me that I’m basically in a win and I’m in situation unless I completely crap the bed on points scored. We shall see.

I have been exceedingly healthy in both my fantasy leagues. Uncoincidentally, I’m the top scorer in both leagues.

It’s even crazier than that. Lamar Jackson missed a game due to COVID, and Josh Jacobs missed 2 games earlier this season due to injury. Those are the only injuries his starters have sustained all season. As a comparison, if you took my best potential starting lineup (not counting players like Ridley, Watson, Etienne, etc.), that group has missed a combined 25 games. And counting, since a couple are still currently injured.

*There’s some potential fudging in my estimate as I don’t remember when I traded for Russell Wilson, who is in that list.

Not going to lie, I didn’t see Dalvin Cook going off for 200 yards two weeks after that injury.

I have him in my money league, and once he was cleared, I was all in. A must win game for a run first team against a bad run defense and a prior record of OK games returning from injury. I’m a bit shocked you liked Russell Gage more.

Yeah Gage was just the best of the bad options.

Honestly, they went from thinking he might be out for months to just a week I wasn’t thinking he’d have much impact.

I think I might have to start Dawson Knox over Kyle Pitts. Since Ridley stopped playing every team is double covering Pitts and shutting him down. Knox is very TD dependent, but he gets at least one almost every week. He almost had one at the end of last week’s game which would’ve given me the win I needed to make the playoffs.

Deebo Samuel being hurt really hurts me here - it sounds like he’ll probably play be maybe be limited, which can be more dangerous than just having him be out and unusable. I might have to start him because he’ll play only to see that he’s being used as a decoy because he’s too hurt.

After being in the #1 seed most of the season and barely losing my clinching game, I’m going to be fairly butthurt if I don’t make the playoffs this year. RNATB got off to a good start with Harris and he’s a 61% favorite at this point. There’s also about a 1/3rd chance Dale beats Peteys which would also give me the spot. It’s about 50/50 whether I make the playoffs at this point.

It’s a good thing this week doesn’t count for me. I have exactly 3 players on my entire bench I can possibly use this week. One has been a healthy scratch for a couple weeks now, the other is a developmental RB who only sees touches in blowouts, and the third is my backup QB. Other than those 3, that makes 11 dead spots on my bench. I also have 2 starters who are currently questionable and another who might not play if the guy above him is active. Just an unbelievable end to an unbelievably bad year

4 RBs on IR and Tony Pollard out today and the NFL still wants 18 games.

I barely even know who Demetric Felton is, but that’s what I’m down to for this week.

Dallas’ and Denver’s defenses have been surprisingly good this year as fantasy defenses. Sometimes it can be hard to pick between them. I decided to play Denver vs Detroit in Denver rather than Dallas at Washington, but I may end up regretting that as Dallas is currently sitting at 28 points.

I might be saved by a Tyler Lockett Blowup Game ™.

Rashod Bateman is really good. Slow start because he had an injury in the preseason but I’m pretty confident he’s going to be very good.

With current projections I’ll regain the #1 seed. I’m 85% to beat RNATB, Omni is 76% to beat Hamlet. Wildcard slot is still up for grabs. Most likely playoffs right now are

  1. SenorBeef
  2. Hamlet
  3. Jules
  4. RNATB if Re-Petey loses (59%) or Re-Petey if he wins.

I’d like to propose a rules change for next year. Recently yahoo added a mechanism for custom seeding in the playoffs, so you can determine who gets to play who. Since having the #1 seed should be rewarded, I think the #1 seed should be allowed to choose their opponent during the first week of the playoffs rather than automatically play the #4 seed.

I’m not proposing it take effect this year, so it’s not self serving, it’s just that thinking about seeding and the playoff schedule reminded me that I wanted to propose this rule.

I’m a definite no. I know of no sports league that allows a team to pick its opponent, and no valid reason to allow it in this league. You play the schedule.
