There’s no sports league that allows owners to pick different players from different teams every week to compete against each other, which would appear to give no valid reason to be able to play fantasy football at all. I’ve never understood thinking that fantasy football has to follow real-world sports rules.
I think it’d be fun. There’s currently no reward for having the #1 seed in this league, like there is in the NFL (bye week), and having a choice about your opponent would be a little reward. It would also generate a lot of discussion about who the #1 seed should pick as their opponent, and then ragging on them or bragging about it if they make the right/wrong choice about it. I see an upside and I don’t really see a downside.
I would be in favor of this. We do it in one my RL leagues and, if you’re the #1 seed, its agonizing. Cuz if you pick wrong and would have won against another opponent… the rest of the league will be endlessly amused.
I think I prefer the “play your schedule” approach. I don’t especially think that #1 seeds should be entitled to any more of an advantage going into the post season than they already do. Top seeds in fantasy are always the ones who have gotten lucky with injuries and found the one or two late round gems. In this dynasty format the advantages are compounded significantly.
I’m for the proposal, but not strongly so. It’s very rare for there to be a team in the playoffs that is as vulnerable as mine, so I doubt this would even be used that much to create a different matchup.
We now have our playoff matchups set. Like last year, the #1 seed will be in a rematch with their week 14 opponent in round one. I’m hoping enough of my team can come back this week that I can at least field a competitive looking roster. After that, maybe I’ll get lucky. Anything can happen in the playoffs, as we all know
Alright, that feels good. After barely losing last week I was really on the ropes there in terms of missing the playoffs, so it feels good to not only win because someone else won or lost but because my team put up a huge week. 162 is the fourth highest score this year and the highest in the second half of the season.
Here’s the end of the regular season sorted by points scored.

Congratulations to Petey for winning the points race - at least the regular season one - in his first year. Not often you’ll see an abandoned team topping that list the next year. You’ve become a valuable member of this league. Thank you.
Edit: Whoops, I got the seeds wrong on the consolation bowl in a post above. Oh well.
Such clean demarcations between the top four, the middle four, and the bottom four.
For most of the season I felt like my Points For total was greatly improved, but now with the season just ended it doesn’t really look like it did. But Joe Mixon is a stud, so I have that going for me. Which is nice.
So Overly gets the #1 overall pick next year, and I get #2 overall? That’s at least something to look forward to.
EDIT: Also, excellent job Peteys coming in and being a good owner. And also Overly, for sticking it out and keeping things fun.
I personally am open to revisiting if you still want to leave the league, Overly. I don’t feel your trade for Aaron Rodgers was particularly bad for the future of your team. But as I said, I rather enjoyed your participation in the league this year and do hope you decide to give us another year or 10.
Just FYI, I just put in a $0 waiver claim on Giants kicker Graham Gano, who I had dropped to make room for Mike Glennon. I forgot to drop Glennon and pick up Gano before my season ended.
Just wanted to fix my roster before everything gets locked for the offseason.
We actually don’t lock non-playoff teams. In non-dynasty leagues, there’s no reason for them to be making moves at the end, but in dynasty leagues there is, so you can keep making any roster move you’d like through the end of the season.
I find it serendipitous that NFL bye weeks stop the week our playoffs start. Yet one more reason I don’t mind that our regular season is “short” by one game.
