I’m beginning to regret making it to the championship game because now I want Hamlet and Jules to fight to the death.
Edit: Well that wouldn’t really make sense since they played last week and me winning didn’t have anything to do with it, but still, keep it up.
I used to try to be the heel in this league but I’ve really let that go over recent years so I don’t know if anyone actually hates that I’m in the championship which makes me a little sad.
Seems I’ve taken over the role of heel. Maybe you could be the kindly old uncle who everyone pities, but no one actually wants to sit down and talk with at family reunions. And he smells vaguely of urine.
Due to the general disbelief we all feel that either Beef or Hamlet will be league champ in a couple of days, I propose that we just go ahead and permanently mark this year with an asterisk. As a reminder of what can happen.
That is a very silly attempt to take the high road by implying I’m taking the low road and weirdly oversensitive… My comment wasn’t second guessing your roster decision or being “bush league”, it’s just really hard to have a historical performance on your bench. For anyone. Even if it was completely reasonable to leave them on the bench.
To provide context for anyone else reading this, before Hamlet edited his post, he said something to the effect of that trying to taunt him over second guessing his roster decisions was a low he never thought I’d stoop to and acted like I committed some grave offense. But as you may have noticed, I’ve been extremely mild this year. I haven’t gloated, I haven’t talked shit, I’ve been pretty neutral and reserved. So I think it’s unreasonable to take my comment about it being hard to have a historically good game on your bench as being some horrible over the line insult.
And I didn’t intend it that way. In the past when I’ve had a situation like that (though less extreme) it would bug me and eat at me, even if I ultimately thought I made the right decision, it’s just hard to watch that sort of thing happen. I don’t think I’ve said anything harsh or insulting or even rough teasing to anyone this year or even at all in recent years, so I was surprised that he apparently took extreme offense at the comment and was pretty hostile in his response.
I honestly don’t know what you want from me, Beef. Apparently I misconstrued your attempt to … commiserate … about the vagaries of fantasy football. I deleted the post (done before I saw your post by the by) and I apologize. Congrats on your win.
It wasn’t commiseration, exactly, more of an observation. You should definitely know by now given how much I post about results-oriented thinking in football threads that I was very much not saying “haha you made a dumb decision by not predicting the future and starting him!”, especially since my post does not remotely imply any criticism of your decision. And I do have some sympathy for it, since that’s the sort of thing that would bother me. It was just unusual and notable. I was posting some running commentary on the games as the day went by.
It seemed like you were trying to sour grapes/sully any victory I had by making a rather personal attack on me. Even if I was mocking you for not starting Burrow, which I wasn’t, your response seemed disproportionate, an attack on my character over what would’ve been some fantasy football smack. And hey, it worked, I don’t really feel great about it now because what seems like genuine hatred was thrown my way when I’ve been pretty nice to everyone this season.
And then editing out the post after I replied to it made it look like I was the one having the overreaction which just generally isn’t cool. But now that you say you deleted the post before reading my comment, and apologized, it’s cool. We can resume your normal, lovable level of assholery instead of what seemed like a more intense and personal one that seemed to pop up for a minute.
My championship score was 179.10 which is the highest score of the year, which makes for a really emphatic victory. Does anyone offhand know where the post about the historically high games in the league? That also puts me on top for the top scoring player for the year, too, so there’s no asterisk on this one. Pretty much everything went right, except I didn’t have one of Tyler Lockett’s patented huge games because he was playing in a snow bowl.
I anticipated making the playoffs this year but I thought a championship might be somewhat unlikely, but you just gotta run hot for a couple of games. I was beat up a lot of the middle of the year but almost everyone was back by the playoffs. I did this without JK Dobbins who I think could be a RB1 next year so that’s a significant loss. Between getting him back, Kyle Pitts developing, and no one on my team aging out of their prime except maybe OBJ I should be in good shape next year, too. But then it only takes Josh Allen being mistaken for a moose and shot by a hunter to derail my season, too, so who knows.
OBJ has actually been pretty good since he was traded to the Rams, so he may still be a declining but worthwhile asset for a few years, whereas he was just a black hole on my roster in Cleveland.
Josh Allen finished the year as the #1 scorer for 2 years in a row now. Impressively, Herbert is #2. I think it’s entirely possible those guys finish up ahead of Mahomes and Lamar next year, too.
Dallas actually finished up as the #1 fantasy defense which is hard to believe. Denver was #3, so I had 2 of the top 3. It was always a guessing game as neither of them are very reliable defenses. They have plenty of big weeks, but they’re not always against the obvious teams.
But most of all I’d like to thank Matt Gay for fulfilling the role of the guy who kicks the ball on my team. He did it good.
Ball busting is cool. I just couldn’t remember if there was some sort of case that this year was somehow lesser because of something we discussed that I forgot.
On the contrary, all years in which I win should have an asterisks to denote that they are the important years.
Technically I haven’t won yet - if Mike Gesicki ends up scoring 66 points this is all going to look a little silly.
So two of my top four players (Godwin, Fournette) went on IR in the first round of the playoffs, and I put up my lowest score of the entire season. I think I’m the first person to score 100+ in every game of the season. That’s not the weird part.
The weird part is my team of injury replacements put up my second-highest score of the season this week, though I’m probably still going to lose to Jules, who is on pace to put up his highest score of the year (and will certainly post his highest since week 1).
Another weird stat: I was 13 points from the highest overall score for the regular season, and 4 points from the highest points against.
