In my IRL cash league I left the draft hating my team. I landed Tyreek and Mahomes with my first 2 picks but ended up scraping for scraps at RB and TE. I figured I was a 500 team at best and would have the miserable situation of guessing which of 6 or 7 fringe starters to pick for 4 spots.
Then the season started and literally everyone else’s team completely fell apart due to injury or regression. Even Mahomes started out shaky. It’s one of those years where nothing is going according to plan.
I ended up starting out 6-0-1 and alone in first. They’re like 8 teams at 4-3 or 3-4. Even to the guy who was hung over and half asleep who drafted Jerrick McKinnon as his RB2 in the 4th round managed to accidentally win 2 games. It’s a strange strange season.
Looks like IR to 3 slots is the winner. We’ll have to implement that next year before the draft is implemented.
I forgot to start Latavius Murray - my worthless RB filler - on Thursday, which means I had nothing at all for my RB2 slot for tomorrow. I had to pick up Cordarelle Patterson in the hopes he gets like 3 carries for 14 yards to at least get something from the slot.
Which team defense do I start, Giants or Jets? Yahoo projects both to be double digit scorers, with Jets slightly higher. I agree in principle that the Jets defense is better than the Giants, but man, that Jets offense really makes opposing defenses look like world beaters.
Think I’ll stick with the Jets, but the Giants really are tempting from the “anyone facing the Jets” perspective.
In other news, I’m really happy that I have finally gotten my team to where I have a plethora of startable receivers. The downside, which I’ve never experienced before, is having to bench guys you want to play because they’re just aren’t enough slots. Today’s two bench warmers are Nico Collins and Hollywood Brown. I don’t so much mind Brown because he’s so feast or famine, but it bums me out not being able to squeeze Nico into the lineup.
I can’t believe I managed to put up 140 points when all the RBs on my roster combined scored less than 10 points and Deebo was out. And who would’ve guessed my best defense would be Denver against KC (although all 3 did well). I’ve been wavering back and forth between Kyle Pitts and Logan Thomas and I always pick wrong.
Dale is pretty scary this year. 167 points this week and a 6-2 record. He’s probably going to win the division this year. It’s going to be a tough race to the wildcard.
Well I needed one point out of the Chargers D tonight and I got 32. Thank you Jets.
Dale has a full two game lead on me in the division and he crushes me in division record - he’s very likely to take the sunbelt. Ellis Dee is 2 games behind Jules and 2 division wins behind him, too, and since Jules is a powerhouse it’s very unlikely he’ll catch up. Midwest is most competitive, with Hamlet only having a one game lead over Gaffer, but a 2 game divisional record lead.
Wildcard race can still go several ways but Ellis and I are in the lead for the spot. I’m lucky to have a winning record at this point - my team is pretty poor and I’ve had really bad luck with injuries this year. When I get Deebo, Achane, and Montgomery back I can maybe make a run at the end of the season.
Having the 11th most PA helps. Looks like I have the 2nd most PF in the league, behind only Jules but behind him by a mile. My 6-3 record reflects that I also have the 3rd most PA (compared to Jules’ 12th, with nobody close to him at 12th.) Feels like Jules’ season this year. Must be nice to have the most PF by 260 pts (!) and the fewest PA by 50 pts.
Hamlet is even worse off than me with the 3rd most PF (only ~23 behind me) but the 2nd most PA, which has left him at 5-4.
I should actually be 5-4 as well. Going into last night, I was 10 points ahead of RNATB with nobody left to play, while RNATB had Justin Herbert (projected 17.55) and a scrub LAC TE (projected 3.24.) Only needing 10 points that should have been a lock for him, but the Jets defense came up big for me, holding them to 5.00 points and 0.00 respectively. Bonus points for me that I actually started the Cleveland DEF, which scored 29. (!)
I had thought there were bye weeks in the playoffs this year, but google is telling me that the last bye week is week 14, and our playoffs start in week 15.
EDIT: It’s amazing that I have the 2nd most PF with only Baker Mayfield and Zach Wilson as my QBs. Also technically Rodgers and Jones, but both are out for the season.
I’ve been meaning to check this for a few weeks now. Here’s how my team compares to the rest of our league in terms of each player being the nth highest scorer at their position. Of course bye weeks make this an uneven playing field, but whatever.
8th Kenneth Walker, RB, Sea
18th Joe Mixon, RB, Cin
23rd Saquon Barkley, RB, NYG
51st Samaje Perine, RB, Den
78th Ty Chandler, RB, Min
133rd Zach Evans, RB, LAR
6th Puka Nacua, WR, LAR
7th DJ Moore, WR, Chi
14th Michael Pittman, WR, Ind
15th Nico Collins, WR, Hou
22nd Hollywood Brown, WR, Ari
79th Skyy Moore, WR, KC
116th Quentin Johnston, WR, LAC
1st Travis Kelce, TE, KC
4th Sam LaPorta, TE, Det
20th Trey McBride, TE, Ari
5th Harrison Butker, K, KC
32nd Graham Gano, K, NYG
For the record, having the lowest PA doesn’t matter at all this year. If you cherry-picked the highest scoring team among the other 11 teams in the league, and I went up against that team that week, I would be 6-3.
Also, keep in mind that I broke the record for the highest scoring team over a season last year and finished 4th. I finished 4th the year before, too. In the last seven years my team has been projected to finish 1st 5 times, and 2nd 2 times. I have one championship. It’s almost never my year, and I will finish 4th again this year like always
How concerned are we with parity and/or uninterested owners later in the season? Is there any desire to do a soft reboot of the league? Maybe allow each team to keep 6-16 players and add the remainder to next years’ draft?
I’ve got a solid team and have been in the championship chase almost every year, so I’m ambivalent. But one of my other dynasty leagues has had a ton of turnover as the owners of bad teams leave late in the season and we may have 4 teams leaving this year, which would kill that league. I just want to avoid that.
I’ve had some years in the wilderness with some pretty awful teams. I’ve always been active until end of season. There’s always luck involved in fantasy but it isn’t a roulette table either. I’ve made trades during the draft probably every season and usually mid season as well.
I wouldn’t leave if we changed the format, heck, I am glad the SDMB is still here. But I see no reason to change
My team is awful and has been for a while, pretty much since I inherited the oldest team ever. Yet I’m committed to turning this dumpster fire around. My Bears fan DNA has prepared me for such an experience. My last few seasons have been focused on adding assets for a rebuild. Rebooting now would probably put me in a better place…but would render my recent efforts moot. I’ll feel more gratified if I can fix this on my own.
Ellis and I are in a pretty important game for the wildcard and we’ve been neck and neck the whole time. I need the Dallas D to grind the Giants into the dirt, which would be a double loss for him.
Looks like it’s coming down to Josh Allen on Monday Night Football. Beef needs him to score 15.17 points against the Broncos. No other players remaining for either of us.
Meanwhile on my bench, Trey McBride is making a case to be Kelce’s heir apparent, nabbing 8 catches for 131 yards. Despite the Lions scoring a thousand points today, LaPorta only managed 6 fantasy points for me with Kelce on a bye.
My team, which has scored 100 points just once in the last six weeks, suddenly decided to drop 150 on Omni. In a week where I could have beaten him with a rolled up newspaper. I hate fantasy.
I would guess Josh Allen scores >15.17 points like 90% of the time but he’s off to a slow start this game. I’m a little bit butthurt that my kicker’s team put up almost 50 points but the kicker only got 7 points because they scored a TD every time and all I got was extra points. Last minute garbage time TD by the Giants also knocked a few off my DEF score. But hey, at least I didn’t have to start Latavius Murray this week.
Oh man, I had to watch the Bills run it like 8 times in a row on that drive while I needed 7 points from Allen. But the fact that he rushed it in instead of passing it got me just barely ahead by less than a point.
I can’t remember - if Buffalo kneels the ball at the end of the game, does that count as negative ushing yardage for the QB?
