It’s absolutely the right move. Two busts would be bad, but two studs possibly shores you up at QB for the long haul and gives you a huge bargaining chip to trade in the future.
I probably would have traded a later pick for a reasonable starter, considering Omni has no QB right now.
To be honest, I agree. But Justin Fields was actually a really valuable fantasy QB for pretty much his whole Bears run. Rushing yards and rushing TDs are a cheat code. I worry most about Daniels durability. If he is in fact a marginally better passer than Fields with similar rushing upside, he is probably a top 6-8 QB with high variance.
In a different draft with a deeper pool of playmakers I probably wouldn’t have doubled up. But I do really like the way this works for my rebuild timeline. QBs have the longest prime so if these guys are legit I can focus my next couple drafts on WRs and if I’m competitive I can start selling off pieces for short term RB help.
I’ve been grinding on this pick for a while now. Time to pull the trigger. Had 3 guys I liked and watched a bunch of tape and I feel like I have the right one finally.
Pick 2.05 - Ricky Pearsall, WR, SF
Yes, the Niners just extended Aiyuk so the path to WR1 status in SF is pretty well blocked, but this team is capped out and they aren’t going to ride with both Deebo and Aiyuk for more than a year or two. Being the clear WR3 on a really good offense with an efficient QB and wunderkind playcaller is as good a situation as you’re going to find at this point, and in a couple years when I’m hoping to be ready to compete, he should be getting a lot of work.

@dalej42 is on the clock.
I just found out that Atlanta brought on Kirk Cousins and of course got rid of Arthur Smith. If Pitts was ever going to be productive, now would be the time. I see him being primed for a big breakout. He’s always had the skill, but he was held back massively by QB and scheme. He’s only 23, has 3(?) years of development under his belt, and is ready to go off.
I hope.
@dalej42 has been on the clock for 15 hours (obviously, a lot of that was the middle of the night). I’m ready to make my pick whenever, but I’m OK with waiting for a while longer.
I think we had decided at one point to not count the time between, like, 12a and 8a against the person on the clock. It was sort of an informal thing, but sounded fair to me. If we use that guideline, I would say we should give @dalej42 another 4 hours and 20-30m from now, if I counted that correctly
I am the sucker who is stuck at work and buried with at least half the staff out for the holiday, I will pick after 5 pm Chicago time. Skip me if needed
You’re right. I forgot about that. I’m OK waiting if everyone else is.
Sorry about all that stuff at work @dalej42!
We’re doing alright on time and can afford to give this a few more hours, especially since Dale is responding, giving us a time frame, and has good reason.
I’m not sure dale agrees with that assessment.
I would highly suggest quitting your job during draft season like I have.
I would not suggest moving across country during draft season like I am. Not finished yet
@dalej42 , will you be able to get a pick in soon?
It’s been 20 hours. And 12 hours even if you discount the 12-8am time frame. He said he we could skip him. Its 7pm Chicago Time.
I think we posted simultaneously. Let’s give it one last hour - if we don’t have a pick in by 9 eastern, Justin can make a pick. Dale will be able to jump back in at any time and make a pick of his own, but of course he won’t be able to take any player that has been taken in the meantime.
Alright, @Justin_Bailey is on the clock. Dale can jump back at any time and take his pick.
OK, here we go.
2.07 Ray Davis, RB, BUF
@Really_Not_All_That_Bright is on the clock but @dalej42 can jump in whenever he’s ready.
You son of a bitch, that was my dude you just took. Since he was projecting as more of a late third rounder I thought maybe I’d be able to be the one to reach for him. Enjoy your 24 year old rookie RB and your sour grapes too.
Sorry, I don’t love any of the RBs left and I figured I might as well take Davis as a handcuff for Cook.
I really wanted Lloyd, but you take what you can get.
I think Davis is more than a handcuff. They don’t trust Cook at the goal line and I can’t imagine they want to keep Allen running it in on those plays over and over again like they did last year. He definitely will get some TDs and probably get something like a 1/3rd share of the runs, and the loss of digs and coaching staff changes means they should be more run heavy. I think he’ll be startable even without a Cook injury.
I really like his running style. He’s slow at the top end so he’s never going to be a super star, but I love his contact balance, acceleration into hits, sideways wiggle, aggression hitting the hole, and just sort of… stuff it’s hard to pin down but he passes the eye test.
