Tracy had an extra year as a RB in college and has a more compact, sturdier RB body. If you watch them both, Tracy moves like a RB. Smith moves like a WR. Tracy also had a better path to starter opportunity than Smith has. I doubt you can find anyone who says Smith has three down potential in the future. It’s not impossible with coaching and NFL weight training, but I just don’t see it

Maybe it’s just a mistaken perception, but it seems like this year’s draft has gone faster than most of the ones in the past. Maybe it’s the depth of talent that has every owner excited to make their next pick. I know itwas for me.
I know I enjoyed this draft more than any one I have done for years. Great job by everyone. Lots of action,. Interesting picks and discussion.
Can’t wait for the games to begin so my hopes and dreams can get crushed against the harsh reality that I only have one solid RB starter and he plays for the Saints.
Also - I am really curious to see what RABBITS Jules pulls with 4 if the last 7 picks.
5.08 Pat Friermuth, TE, PIT

I haven’t been able to go back and check, but it feels that way to me too.
It’s definitely going to be interesting. But I have a theory and I’m curious to see if I’m right.
This draft has definitely gone much faster. I think it’s because we eliminated those super long picks, like 30+ hours on the clock.

Maybe, but the 1700 combined yards at SMU is a pretty compelling case to me. The learning curve is why he lasted this long. Tracy was a 3rd rounder. He has work to do, but I like the results so far. He won’t need to learn the passing game which is sometimes the case with college workhorses.
I suppose if you’re a Pacheco believer then it’s a different conversation.
I certainly won’t hold up the show, then. I still have eight players on my list that I would be willing to take, with varying degrees of excitement. I’ll go with the lottery ticket picks first, because I don’t think I’ll get scooped on my last two picks.
5.10 Isaiah Bond, WR, Cle
6.01 Trevor Etienne, RB, Car
@Hamlet is on the clock
I was really hoping Etienne might fall to me.
Actually, thinking back, we may have also eliminated the “normal” long picks, like 12 hours. I didn’t check, but we may have only hit double digit hours once, and mostly have been under 8 hours per pick.
A couple years ago we wondered how many picks was normal in our drafts, so I checked a few years to get a sense:
| Year | Picks |
|---|---|
| 2022 | 49 |
| 2021 | 45 |
| 2020 | 39 |
| 2019 | 48 |
This year our draft had a whopping 57 picks if I counted them right, and we may very well finish up on Sunday, 4 days before kickoff.
I thought he would go at the end of the 3rd, top of the 4th. I kinda get why he didn’t: he’s small and he has an established guy ahead of him, which limits him to a 3rd down role. But there’s not much competition for that role, and while Chuba’s established and has been surprisingly good, his contract is structured in a way that they aren’t tied to him. So there’s a chance Etienne gets more work in the future, even if I wouldn’t bet on it.
I’m very surprised Bond was still on the board. He’s the perfect lottery ticket stash. He was projected by some outlets to be a 1st round pick in late 2024. There is absolutely no way he’s actually a 4.43 guy, and Cleveland doesn’t have anyone that stretches the field the way he can. They also don’t have a QB that can throw that far, but it’s a lottery ticket, so what
No QB in Cleveland.
Gave Etienne a hard look, but I didn’t think he played up to his timed speed.
Been agonizing over Shedeur Sanders all day… or not.
6.06 Jaylin Lane, WR, WAS
@Jules_Andre is up.
Just in time, not that getting skipped here matters.
Back to back picks are so fun, even this late. I don’t have to worry about choosing between two players or having to find some way to break the tie. Unfortunately, I have to be more practical here instead of a fangirling daydreamer, which limits the fun.
6.10 Geno Smith, QB, LV
Need a backup QB, and I have a lot of stacking on this offense for some… reason. That was unplanned and is worrisome, but here we are.
For my next practical pick… Sorry, hold on. Hello? Speaking. What? I’m sorry, did you say I HAVE to take him here? “For the good of the league??” What does that even mean? I already drafted a QB, I’m not taking him here. I don’t care what they did in the real draft. I don’t want the media circus and his father getting in the way of our team chemistry. You’ll pay me what? You should have led with that, let’s do this.
7.01 Shedeur Sanders, QB, Cle
Just kidding. 7.01 Gunnar Helm, TE, Ten
@Really_Not_All_That_Bright is up with Mr. Irrelevant
We also got lucky draft wise as there were no hurricanes or other weather related stuff and I am quite glad I didn’t get laid off again!
