SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year Eight

Top of the power rankings. My team started out kinda weak but will be getting stronger as the week goes on.

Of course not by as much as it should. Josh Gordon would’ve been getting back this week.

I’m not cutting him, though. He’s going to get cut by the Browns, get picked up by the Pats, totally clean up his act, and put up 2400 yards next year. As a Browns fan I am 94% certain this is the inevitable outcome so the least I can do is take the fantasy benefit of it.

I guess Terelle Pryor is my new man crush. And the dude is a legit freak, and making a pretty remarkable transition. Unfortunately he’ll never be quite as good, but then Josh has probably as much talent as anyone who has ever played the position in the NFL, so that’s a tough comparison.

Enjoy it. The power rankings make you feel very good about your team, like predicting a one loss season and a dominant lead in points.

And then reality hits. You lose a young, stud WR for the season after 30 minutes of playing. You lose your stud RB for more than half a year, maybe more, because of injury. Another stud running back you have hasn’t yet come back an injury he received from last year, so your stuck starting a backup RB. You lose another starting WR and a starting TE for weeks at a time.

So enjoy it while you can.

Rather a lot depends on Aaron Rodgers being Aaron Rodgers and not 2015 Aaron Rodgers. So far he only seems to be able to channel the former intermittently.

I really like my RB depth now that Gordan is the only option in SD. I have Latavius Murray as my #4 RB and he seems to be good for 10-12 points on a weekly basis (up until this last).

Also, Will Fuller is leading the Texans in receiving right now, and is having a spectacular year (so far) for a rookie WR.

Why did Hamlet pick up Derek Anderson off waivers? (Anderson is the Panthers’ backup QB, and Cam Newton is roughly 50/50 to miss this week with a concussion.) Even if he winds up starting for Carolina this week there’s no way he winds in Hamlet’s lineup (ahead of Rivers & Fitzpatrick), either now or later. I’m pretty sure therefore it’s a blocking move, designed to keep him off someone else’s roster. But whose? Hamlet’s opponent this week is Stringer, who is missing his starter because Carson Palmer is out this week (also a concussion), but Stringer still has Matthew Stafford to start in his place, and it’s hard to imagine Derek Anderson being a better bet.

Is it just a generalized blocking move to stymie potentially everyone? The only specific team I can think of that the move hurts is mine, since neither of my non-Cam QB’s are playing right now, so if Cam is ruled out I’ll be scrambling, especially now that Anderson is gone.

This league is pretty cutthroat about grabbing players off waivers who have the potential to sniff a starting job a year from now, let alone someone who may start this weekend.

I didn’t need a third QB, but I grabbed Trevor Siemian after week one just because he might someday become a chip I can use in a trade.

I did the same thing years ago with Michael Vick and eventually flipped him for Matt Forte, who is still a big part of my team, so it can pay off down the road.

I saw Blaine Gabbert play.

With Fitzpatrick struggling, I need to carry 3 QB’s who will start. I think Derek Anderson is a better option to score points than any other QB available, and I think, after the Super Bowl, Week 1 against Denver, and last weekend’s hit, that Cam is going to miss more than just a game this year.

I wish I was some kind of genius who worked the angles for blocking other people, but really, it was desperation more than anything else.

Amazingly, I might actually pull out a win over varlos with my jv team. It’s certainly not in the bag but it will at least be close. Considering my 3 RBs and D combined for 14 points that is a minor miracle.

Do better, Varlos. Get out there and give some sort of inspiring speech and make your guys give 114.3%.

It will basically come down to which Jameis Winston shows up tonight. The guy who played Atlanta and the second half of the LA game will win this thing for me. The guy who showed up for the other games this season won’t. Weirdly, he seems to play much better on the road, so there’s that.

Considering how closely bunched the teams are recordwise this game could be huge.

Yahoo’s 14 points for the Carolina D is awfully generous. You’ve definitely got a real shot and I’m rooting for you (OK, I’m rooting against Varlos, but still).

Gah! Two of my “questionables” ended up being out, and I wasn’t online in time to fix it. That’s two complete zeroes! Not being able to substitute those TWO players cost me…8.10 points. I still would have lost by double digits.

(One of them wouldn’t have mattered, as all three TEs on my roster were out with injury this week.)

Argh. This is going to be awfully close.

Or maybe it isn’t.

Argh. I knew that 13 point projection was too good to be true.

C’mon, Greg Olsen, my good pal, my only remaining player from the inaugural draft. You can bring this home…

Jesus Christ he’s having a huge game. Now I need a TD for the Bucs. Which I want anyway. It’s nice when real football support and fantasy support come together.

… And now I am probably going to lose. I hate you Aguayo.

Wow, whoever calls the plays for Tampa is some kind of coward. Running on 3rd & 9, accepting a 40+ yard FG (46 as it happened) with 3:30 left? Really dumb.

Yeah that was awful. And then not taking shots at the end zone on the final drive. And now you win, barring a stat update. On the bright side, at least I scored the most points possible. So I can blame injuries and the bye.

That whole last drive was idiotic. They kept running, seemingly playing for OT. Only got bailed out by Carolina calling their timeouts. And it’s not even like they were having a good night running the ball, they averaged under 3 YPC (oh, and speaking of idiotic, everyone on ESPN keeps going on about how Tampa ran the ball down Carolina’s throat).
