SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year Eight

I had an extreme version of that this week. Almost all of my guys had early Sunday games, and about 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter of those games they were destroying it, I already had 80 points, my projection was up well over 150. But then everyone just stopped scoring simultaneously. It was weird.

I managed to scrape together a roster that includes Cody Kessler and Kenyan Drake as starters to be the 3rd highest projected score this week.

I’ve got the highest projected score, which is a guarantee I will lose. If I hit 0-4, my season is absolutely over, without a doubt. Which is a shame, because I got some really lucky breaks that would have given me a good, deep roster through the middle of the season. McKinnon taking over for AP, Jordan Howard for Langford. But, lucky breaks don’t change that I’ve faced the most points scored against of anyone in the league. So, 1-3 might not matter much, anyway.

One day I will learn that I can cut my FAAB bids by three quarters and still land the players I want. I’ve been overbidding like crazy the last couple of years. But then most people finish the season with $75+ FAAB dollars it seems (or they blow it during the last couple of weeks because there’s no reason to hold onto it) so I think everyone kind of mismanages it. But no reason to keep overbidding if I’m not competing with anyone.

On the other hand I nailed Jordon Howard in another league, outbidding other players by $1. Incidentally he was the guy I was going to take if I was forced to draft at 2.04. I knew Langford sucked and he’d get an opportunity. But my impression is that Howard also sucks and the Bears will be drafting a RB next year.

Well bad news for me. I’m holding two pieces of the Miami rushing attack that will never amount to anything. And Josh Gordon’s career is over. He will probably never take another snap again.

I don’t know. Ajayi hasn’t looked terrible when they’ve given him the ball. He just hasn’t looked very good. As for Gordon, I suspect he’ll catch on with another team next year, but I suspect he will just be a perpetual camp cut.

Guess I should’ve found a better backup TE so I didn’t lose 2 games because of Gronk’s zeroes.

I think I should probably have started Matt Ryan.

I should probably have started Buffalo DEF.

Well, huh. For years I keep taking a RB at the top of the first* but I drafted the best RB on my roster last year in the 4th round: Isaiah Crowell. Go figure.

*Because I’m still pissed about taking Tavon Austin #1 overall two years ago instead of Gio Bernard.

My amazing RB depth is being sorely tested right now with two guys on IR and Doug Martin injured. If Spencer Ware doesn’t keep getting substantial playing time when Jamaal Charles comes back I’m going to be in a lot of trouble.

On the other hand, I’m almost certainly going to be in first place overall after this week, and I have the #1 overall QB (with a bullet, even though I’ve started him just once), the #2 TE, three healthy top-25 RBs, and three top-25 WRs.

Eh, Bernard didn’t work out all that well for me either. In fact, none of that draft (2013) did.

The one player in that draft who is still on my roster is Steven Haushka - and this was a draft when I made eight picks because I had the absolute worst team in the league (you had a worse record but you had some promising youngsters on your team). To be fair, Hauska is probably the best fifth round pick in the history of this league. He’s started just about every game for me (other than his byes) for 3.25 seasons.

Hell, the only other player I drafted that year who wasn’t a complete bust was Bernard, who I traded to Varlos with Danny Woodhead and DeAngelo Williams to get Matt Ryan and Nuk Hopkins (which worked out rather well for both of us).

Whoops!

Wow. I got spanked.

You sure did. If the Min defense does around how they’re projected that’ll be the lowest score of the year. A winless team vs an undefeated team. But you know how it is - sometimes those teams that have been winning all their games become complacent and they aren’t giving 110%, but those winless teams are hungry to show they’ve got the will to compete in this league and give 113%.

I still have about a 1/3rd chance against Stringer. He needs to make up a 22 point gap with Odell Beckham and Orleans Darkwa still to play. Normally that’s a given, but if anyone can shut them down, Minnesota can.

I could really use the win. Our division is gonna be tough to win and it’ll be hard for me to fall two games behind.

Bear in mind that this time last year I was 3-1 and undefeated in the division, and first or second in points. Just as I am now. And that worked out okay for you.

Gaaaah! That’s another thing I’m super pissed about. Actually, Kelce is my #2 gripe in this league, behind not taking Aaron Rodgers in the inaugural draft because I slept through it and hadn’t pre-ranked. (I planned on taking him in the first round, figuring QBs would matter much more than RBs in a league where you can keep a guy for a decade.)

I drafted Kelce, and was super excited about him, and then (of course) he did nothing his rookie season and rode my bench all year. Then in the offseason I friggin’ forgot him and cut him before the following draft. Gaaaaaaah!

Just realized half my team is on a bye next week. Looks like I might be punting against varlos.

Ughhhh I hate this league.

I love this league. I’m just a more positive person than you are.

In unrelated news, I beat Stringer in what’s my worst week in terms of byes. I’m like 3 points away from being undefeated this season, but I’ll take 3-1.

Next week I’ve managed to string together a roster with a projected score of 136.91. Which is probably the highest projected score we’ve had all season but I don’t think there’s any way to check for sure. And Varlos looks good against RNATB. So I may be able to take my rightful place on top of the division.

Bah. I figured there was at least a 75% chance that OBJ and Darkwa put up the 20 points Stringer needed. And considering how screwed I am this week, my first place is not likely to last long. Of course, it’s going to be hard for you to make up the 1.5 game division deficit and your remaining non-division schedule is slightly harder than mine.
