Draft Self-Review…
I pretty much played it safe this year. No pick trading. No reaches. No projects. And most of the players I picked were the BPA at their draft slot.
1.12 - Zay Jones, WR, BUF
Sammy Watkins was sent packing and Anquan Boldin retired, so Zay Jones is somehow the #1 receiver in Buffalo. He had a good preseason, and the sportswriters like him, but the QB situation in Buffalo is awful. So it remains to be seen if he’ll be able to contribute this year. But I like him very much for the future.
3.06 - Aaron Jones, RB, GB
Jones is sitting behind Ty Montgomery and Jamaal Williams on the depth chart, but the sportswriters like him as well, so maybe he’ll get his chance someday.
4.06 - Wayne Gallman, NYG, RB
No one on the Giants seems to like Paul Perkins (who I actually traded up to get last year), so it’s possible that he’ll be out before the end of the year. Gallman hasn’t wowed anybody so far, but he was a good pick at this point in the draft and a decent insurance policy for a Perkins-less Giants.
Supplemental 1.3 - Trevor Siemian, QB, DEN
Trevor Siemian is boring, but he’s also a decent emergency QB. And if I need him, I’ll be glad I have him.
Overall Outlook…
Once again I repeat, my team is OLD. But short of blowing up absolutely everything, I’m kind of stuck in limbo this year. I’ve still got enough firepower to contend for a playoff spot, but I don’t think I’ve got championship hopes this year. And that Julian Edelman injury really hurts me. But I can probably still expect great years from Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, and Devonta Freeman.
And if I miss the playoffs, probably enough to dominate the Consolation Bracket at the very least.
