SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year Nine

Technically my last pick will be the supplemental pick I get for IR-ing Ware. I don’t have a fourth-round pick because I didn’t cut enough players, so as I understand it none of those picks exist; 4.11 therefore reverts to Varlos (though it would be 4.10 since the 4.05 doesn’t exist).

4.12 also disappears as I didn’t cut enough players to reach it.

And I’m not sure if I’m up next or not, but I’ve got a pick ready to go as soon as we figure it out.

Varlos entered himself in the draft results as the owner of the 4.05 pick, so he’s eithre correct and it’s his pick and we’re waiting on him, or it’s incorrect and we can wait on him to work backwards and figure out what it should be. Either way we’ll have to wait for him.

Petey, RNATB, and JB (4.09, 4.11, and 4.12) are skipped picks since they’re used to keep players rather than generate picks. Similarly, in the 5th round, only Dale, Jules, Ellis, Hamlet, Omni, and Varlos are drafting, in that order. The 6th round only has 3 picks.

Then we’d have a supplimental draft for IR players.

Just in case this does drag - as Ellis suggested, if you’re involved in the remaining picks, including the supplimental draft because you have someone starting the season on IR, please check in tomorrow afternoon so we can quickly bang out the rest of the draft. Obviously let’s get as much done as we can until then.

Welp, this is why I said we can’t start the draft until we have a list of the entirety of our picks so we know what we actually have and can trade. I don’t think in this case it is going to affect anything, but what would we have done if we just now found out Beef couldn’t have moved up to 1.05 because RNATB didn’t actually have the picks he traded? As far as I can tell, Varlos entered the actual picks correctly once he got everyone’s cuts, so we have done this correctly to this point.

By my estimation, RNATB is finished until we start the supplemental IR draft, which is entirely separate from this draft. 4.05 doesn’t exist, and Justin should be up. Explanation below:

Here’s my understanding of this. At the end of last season, we all got slotted into the draft based on our finish. This is essentially getting hypothetical picks all the way up to round 25, if you cut everyone. So I had the rights to 1.03, 2.03, 3.03, all the way to 25.03, for example. Once we finalize our cuts and the draft starts, you no longer get draft slots, you have actual picks which correspond to what you cut. From here, picks can’t really disappear anymore, because we are working with actual picks instead of slots. Your “last pick” doesn’t start hopping around based on future actions, because it is now an established, actual pick.

Then, trades from last year that used “next year’s picks” trigger, and I would assume they trigger in chronological order. That’s a little loosey goosey, but that’s how I have figured it worked since joining this league. I guess if you don’t cut enough people to satisfy the trade, that portion of the trade would vanish, which is something we’re going to need to hammer down and codify, because this can actually fuck people up pretty badly*.

So RNATB cut three players, so he got the actual picks of 1.05, 2.05, and 3.05. All future slots are filled with keepers from this moment, so 4.05 was already filled before the draft even started. Technically, 4.05 exists, but for our purposes, that pick doesn’t exist anymore. Then his trades from last year trigger, so he loses 2.05 and gains Varlos’ 4th, 4.11. He has 1.05, 3.05, 4.11. Then he gets 2.11 from Varlos, and gives up his last pick, which at this point is 4.11. It has to be whatever the latest pick he holds when the trade resolves, not his original “last pick.” You can’t resolve these trades any other way. (Otherwise, Beef could never have moved up in round 1 because RNATB didn’t have 3.05 to trade away) So, before the draft even starts, RNATB had 1.05, 2.11, 3.05. (Which is what Varlos entered)

The first post of this thread lists RNATB with 4.05 only because we still had draft slots at that point, and not actual picks, since we hadn’t yet made cuts. This is why we need a finalized draft order, because people copy and paste the first post to show our progress, when the first post is filled with hypothetical picks by necessity.

[[ * For example, I made a trade with dale last year where he got my third pick, and I got his last pick. Well, what if he didn’t cut 3 people? All of a sudden, “my third for your last pick,” the intention of which is to give him value to balance my already having gotten value, turns into me getting his second for my third. This would be completely fucked for him. (I foresaw this being an issue and included a caveat about this very thing just in case, but still) Worse yet, what if I only cut 2 players on purpose? Dale gets screwed and the “next year’s” portion of the trade is canceled? That’s terrible and shitty. I think we need actual, established rules on how to handle these scenarios for next year]]

I think in years past we made people cut down to get the actual pick to trade, but I don’t remember the specific instance.

Yeah, it’s kind of my bad. I cut five players, but forgot that I had two on IR (actually I had five or six guys on IR by the end of last season but only two IR slots) for a total of 27.

I think Jules is right, but we should probably wait for Varlos to check in before going ahead.

Thoughtful analysis, Jules. Agreed with all of it. And apologies for my earlier reply to Hamlet if this was what you were asking about in post 227.

Here’s a comprehensive list of the rest of our draft. I started with Beef’s rundown of what picks are left, but then switched over to the actual draft results page on yahoo to finalize the draft results.

Then I went through everyone’s roster to see what players are currently listed on IR. And finally, I then went through the thread to catch players we’ve drafted who then went on IR. Speak up if I missed any.

The only question I still have is the 4.05 pick, which is unfortunate in that it’s currently on the clock. Yahoo says Varlos gets it, so I assigned it to Varlos. And since the 05s belong to RNATB, I added “[from RNATB]” to it. But I don’t really understand exactly what happened with it.

SenorBeef has Varlos’ 3rd round pick

Misc:
Ellis Dee sends Isaiah Crowell to Beef for pick 2.04

Okay, I think I figured it out. If VarlosZ hadn’t given me his second-rounder, then I would not already have picked three players and I would be picking at 4.05 (as Beef had my third round pick). So 4.05 did exist at the start of the draft. So Varlos gets it as my “last pick,” and 4.11 goes away since I can’t use it.

In other words, Varlos is up and I’m done.

We still have 22 picks remaining, there are only 53 hours until kickoff, and pick 4.05 has been on the clock for 22 hours.

Should we start skipping?

If Varlos isn’t back by 4:00 (Eastern) I’ll make my pick. Sound cool with everybody?

Yep. I’m getting antsy that we won’t finish.

Ugh! Don’t forget the board will be down tonight and into early morning. That’ll put a serious damper on the draft, especially if the board isn’t up at the scheduled time.

Alright. I’m calling it…

4.06 Wayne Gallman, RB, NYG

The Giants don’t seem very thrilled with the Paul Perkins situation, so I might as well stash his backup for a rainy day.

PM to Hamlet sent.

Since I don’t have a starting QB if Rivers goes down, I’ll reluctantly take

Brian Hoyer, QB, 49ers.

PM to Omni sent.

Much like Hamlet, I’m in a pinch at QB with Luck out in week 1 and Bortles a possible benching candidate. I will be reluctantly locking up the Bears QB rotation.

**Mike Glennon, QB, CHI **

Yeesh. Rookie options fell off a cliff here.

4.09 - Jacksonville DST

PMing Dale it looks like.

This is true. When I would cut and paste the draft order for reference, I would include new trades made this year, but I didn’t factor in the last pick swaps nor double check to see how many picks people started the draft with. Next year we definitely need to post a finalized starting order with all of that taken into account.

This makes sense.

I think, generally, if someone doesn’t satisfy a trade by having a certain round pick, they’d have to give up whatever the the next worst pick they have in terms of value. So if they traded a 4th rounder but don’t have it, they’d have to give up their third rounder.

I’m going to try to reconstruct what happened later when I have time. You’re probably right but I want to double check everything.

Maybe we could add an implied clause to those sorts of future swaps? Whoever is getting the lesser of the picks can turn them down in favor of keeping more of their players.

As mentioned above I think you’d owe him your last (2nd round) pick, providing something greater or equal in value to what you guaranteed him.

I believe this is correct. Our trade is valid. Your picks are valid. Varlos gets 4.05. 4.11 disappears. You have a full roster. Is there a hanging loose end here? I mean we can revamp our procedures for the future, definitely, but do we have any other outstanding issues about anyone using a pick they didn’t have, or anything like that?

As for the supplimental draft, I have a pick from Cameron Meredith on IR. I added myself. Anyone else have an IR player not listed here?
