Does it make sense for players just drafted to count for IR moves? Not sure where I stand just yet, but it feels a little weird to me.
Maybe if they were injured after being drafted? Otherwise it seems like you could plot to get a free pick.
Thats my thought. I don’t have a problem with kept players who get injured in the offseason or draft picks who get injured while our draft is going on being granted supplemental picks, but I do if someone drafts a player already on IR.
The problem is that teams don’t always designate a injured player for the IR when they get inured, they often sit on it until final cuts. This means you can gamble on a dinged up player getting IRed. Teams these days also tend to use the new IR rules as a way to redshirt a guy.
There’s just too much grey area to try and differentiate between a guy IRed before and after you pick them. I think it should be all or none just to avoid confusion and conflict.

Playing the “guess the backup of your stud player” game.
Kerwynn Williams, RB Cardinals.
I assume you don’t need a PM Omni.
Nope, but we’re probably gonna stall here a bit for the HHM draft and some shit I gotta do during/after. Might give Varlos a chance to catch up.
I’ll be sure to make a pick before I go to bed though.
The SDMB is going offline at 10pm ET tonight for six hours.

Board is wonky, but working. Getting my pick in while I can. Varlos is on the clock again, but I won’t PM him. Will see what happens in the AM when the board is fully firing.
Chris Conley, WR, KC
On the supplimental draft issue, I’m inclined to just let all the IR players currently get draft picks. Joe Williams and Carlos Henderson were both put on IR soon after being drafted (in this league), but they were both kinda out of the blue, I’m pretty sure their drafters had no idea they’d end up being IR’d. So maybe just let everyone get a pick this year and then we’ll discuss a hard rule for next year about IR eligibility. But that’s just an opinion, not a decree, others can chime in although we’ll be starting the supplimental draft today.
They’ll end up being the equivelant of 7th round draft picks anyway so not exactly a huge bounty, just a little something to offset the loss.
Let’s give Varlos a few hours to make his pick but I think if he’s not around by this afternoon we’ll have to skip him again and move on in order to complete this on time.
I think giving people a 2-for-1 pick is not fair. Pick someone off waivers.
I agree. Especially since it is very easy to setup a hardline rule for this…
Supplemental picks are only granted for keepers who go on IR.
No fuss. No muss. No gray area.
I agree that it’s unfair if the drafted player is already on IR when drafted, but otherwise I don’t see how it’s different from a keeper.
Omni pointed out that sometimes teams will basically redshirt rookies by IRing for a minor injury, and you can mybe kinda see it going in that direction before you draft them, but not have IR announced until after your pick. I don’t think anyone in our league would exploit such a thing intentionally, so I’m okay with just saying anyone going on IR after the pick can get a supplemental pick, but it’s not a strong opinion. I’m fine with limiting it to kept players only. It won’t come up often since our draft is only a week and a player would have to be IRed in that window.
Well, let’s get the 6th round done. That will give more people to chime in whether or not rookies picked this year on IR should earn supplemental draft picks. So far it seems that the no vote is winning.
