SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year Nine

I was looking through some PMs and noticed Varlos signed in on Oct 11. Previous to that, when he initially disappeared, his last sign on date was IIRC Sep 7. So he logged on a month after he disappeared. Which is a bit mysterious. It’s hard to imagine someone not having any internet access at all in 2 months, so I fear the worst, but then the one (silent) login since then is a bit strange. Could be someone else going through his computer, maybe. Or maybe for some reason he has extremely intermittent access. But I thought I’d update the league either way even though I don’t know how to interpret the more recent log on.

I did a bit of google stalking…I didn’t find anything to suggest anything has happened to him, unless he moved to Louisiana recently.

Jay Ajayi got traded to Philly for a 4th rounder. I can’t imagine this is bad for his value, it seems like something wasn’t clicking in Miami and Philly being an overall better offense might give him better opportunities. Hard to say, but optimistic.

I’m thinking of trading for a QB given my current situation, throw offers my way if you want while I negotiate with people.

CJ Beathard was invalidated by the Garapollo trade. Kizer on bye. No starting QB this week.

Except… free Brock Osweiler! HAHAHA! Yes! That’s… good. Yes, he’s… good for my team.

Varlos had two placeholder players left over to complete his roster after he didn’t show up for his last two draft picks - they were essentially empty slots, but his roster had to be full to finish the draft.

And today he has two players who are out/bye and don’t have replacements.

So I dropped the two worthless placeholder players and added the highest projected kicker and TE available to give him a full roster.

Just posting this so the roster moves are explained.

That Denver defensive TD averted a disaster. They were sitting at -7 before that, and +2 now. Kept me in the game.

I ended up starting Drake over Ajayi because I figured a guy who has been waiting to get his chance in a system would get off to a faster start than a guy traded to a new system, but it looks like Ajayi did pretty well. Oh well.

I can’t believe Rodgers->Nelson has become Osweiler->Demaryius Thomas. I’ve been way too lazy about fantasy this year, not putting out the offers I should. I’ll make some offers for QBs this week, or come to me with one if you’ve got one to sell. Players with only short term value are fine - I’ll have Rodgers coming back.

My game with Retro is remarkably close for two 6-2 teams, because we both were terrible this week. I need 15 points out of Nelson and Drake. I feel like yahoo’s estimate that I’m 65% to win is a little conservative.

Omni has a 3 point lead and Golden Tate vs Varlos’ Crabtree, Parker, and Tavecchio.

RNATB has a 10 point lead and Marvin Jones vs Hamlet’s Jared Cook and Damien Williams (that’ll be a squeaker)

Justin needs Aaron Jones to score 14 points to catch Dale.

I didn’t see Drake and Cook going off, of all people. Marvin Jones is always capable of a 200 yard game, but never actually has one (at least since Week 1 of last year) so I’m probably sunk.

Well I just need 1.12 points from Jordy Nelson to salvage out the crappiest win of the season. RNATB probably losing is nice although I’m really more worried about the wild card than the division race which is likely to go to him in any case. My more likely competitors are for the wildcard slot which will be whichever of Varlos/Jules doesn’t win the division.

Retro still has a 2 game lead on the rest of his division.

I can’t believe you’re going to be tied with me again despite me outscoring you by 11,000 points.

My team plays hard. Your team is a bunch of candy asses. It might not show up in the stats but that kind of grit wins football games.

Marvin Jones, Marvin Jones, riding through the glen
Marvin Jones, Marvin Jones, with his band of men
Catch a touchdown, in the endzoooone
Marvin Jooooones
Marvin Jooooones
Marvin Jones.

At least you didn’t ruin your draft slot. Hamlet’s season-high losing score against me highlights a bizarre stat: I’ve won four games against teams which posted their season-high that week. My opponents have scored 1059 points (second most points against by 4), which would make them the second-highest scoring team in the league.

It’s Fitzmagic time.

I’m planning on starting a new QB every week. Until Josh Gordon returns, and Kizer ends up throwing 400/4 because Gordon catches for 400/4.

How do I have four RBs involved in timeshares? Picking wrong ruined this week and it’s not looking too good for the rest of the year either.

I have the entire Washington backfield which has to be the league’s shittiest timeshare. Except that Chris Thompson the third down back is actually the #7 scorer in the league this year. But most of those points came in some early games where he scored a lot of points and I didn’t start him because I expected more out of Ajayi/Crowell. Rob Kelley/Samaje Perine must be the worst timeshare to own though otherwise.

My RB situation has improved recently. Jay Ajayi clearly needs good blocking to be effective, but Miami can’t do it. The Eagles can. In a few snaps they opened up a truck sized hole for him and he ripped off a 60 yard TD. I suspect his production just took a serious turn for the better.

I can’t figure out how Terelle Pryor is completely useless this year. He was a 1000+ yard receiver on the Browns last year, and a much better offense can’t get him anything at all? The guy is still 6’4 240 and runs a 4.4. How can you not use that? On the plus side it was only a 1 year deal, so he’ll be somewhere else next year. I really wish he’d have stayed on the Browns. The FO was fucking retarded to let him go to save a million or two a year to replace him with shittastic Kenny Britt. It was working, he was developing, you hit your lottery ticket on your long shot… and then you just let him go for no good reason when you’re way under the cap. Maybe he’ll come back next year.

Martavis Bryant is also a huge disappointment and I’m not quite sure why on that either. It seems like they mostly just want to run Schuster-Smith, which would at least be a reason. I was hoping he’d get traded because the talent is still there as far as I know. Both of those guys were huge disappointments. I’ve been counting on them to move forward and be the core of my receiving corps.

I heard rumors Josh Gordon would be coming back over a month ago, and unfortunately that never panned out. Earliest he can play is week 13. Realistically, it’s going to be hard to trust a guy playing his first games back in years when he’s coming back just in time for the fantasy playoffs, but fuck it, if I make it, it’s Gordon time.

Bryant never really showed that much. He had two decent seasons with a probably unsustainable touchdown rate. He has five career 100-yard games. Nice for a young receiver, but not earth-shaking, particularly since he’s never seen double coverage.

I’m as mystified as you about Pryor. Cousins just doesn’t seem to like throwing to him.

Bryant seemed like the career path you’d see for a successful physical freak project player, so I figured he’d hit where he left off. He seems to have fallen out of favor there, so maybe he’ll go be the #1 somewhere else next year.

My game with Varlos this week has significant playoff implications - whoever of Jules and Varlos doesn’t win the division is my toughest competition for the wildcard slot. Everyone else is three games back. Whoever wins between him and I definitely has a big leg up on it.

Yeah, but not all or even most of those “physical freak” guys actually turn into top NFL wideouts. Breshard Perriman and James Hardy were also freak athletes with great size and questionable college production who didn’t turn into anything, to name two off the top of my head (I suppose Perriman could still turn into a thing).
