For our league rules, I don’t think it really matters if players have the K.
Agreed. Always felt a little clutter-y to me.
Ok, I realized we actually need the little k’s for now in order tell which picks are used for keepers on the Draft Results page. I can get rid of them at the end of the draft if we like.
Keepers are entered (see Draft Results page above).
dale traded away a pick without getting one in return, meaning he has to exit with the draft with 24 players, which in turn means he gets a placeholder keeper (Tim Tebow in this case) that he’ll cut immediately after the draft.
Stringer kept 23 players, meaning he only gets 1st & 2nd Round picks. However, he traded away his 2015 1st & 2nd Round picks, meaning the only picks he gets in the draft are the balancing picks he got in return in those trades: Ellis Dee’s last pick and dale’s last pick, both in the 5th Round. Don’t feel too bad for him, though: having entered his players one by one just now I can assure you his team is plenty good already.
(The the precise nature of dale’s “last pick” gets a little tricky, but I’m pretty sure this is correct; if anyone wants to delve into the mysteries of the draft order themselves, feel free.)
We’ll start the draft officially Monday morning I suppose, but furt et al can begin making early selections sometime tomorrow (I’ll let you know). As always, check your keepers to make sure they’re entered correctly.
Have we officially enacted the “all draft pick trades must be balanced” rule starting this year?
I can think of no player I’d rather cut than Tim Tebow. Although. I should have included the Indy D/ST on my cut list
Yes, Tebow should be the last placeholder pick we for the foreseeable future.
I didn’t put it together that I wouldn’t get a pick until the 5th so I’d like to additionally cut Malcom Floyd so I get a pick in the 3rd.
All around great job, commish. Kudos.
I’d totally forgotten I got a pick from Stringer last year. (I did remember getting Donte Moncrief, though!)
So I choose 9th. Ouchie, making the playoffs blows when you suck. On the plus side I get a first, two seconds, a third and a fourth. That’s not too bad.
Looking at the draft resuls (Thanks commish!), I see I have only two draft picks because of keeping guys on IR and for some reason forgetting I had Mark Sanchez. If it is not too late I’d like to cut Miles Paul from IR and the Sanchize to pick up a couple draft picks.
Stringer, any interest in Robert Turbin? You can have him pretty cheap - say, a draft pick next year.
Ok, Hamlet’s change is entered, I guess that should be it.
Who all do we have for the IR/Supplemental Round? So far all I see is Hamlet (Kelvin Benjamin) and Beef (Jordy Nelson). Am I missing anyone? And we’re sure those guys are going on IR, right? Because so far they’re not listed that way.
I don’t think IR gets listed on yahoo until the season, or perhaps not even by the NFL, but rotoworld says their teams have announced both were out for the season, which is pretty standard for ACLs.
Mmmm maybe. I’ll let you know after the draft.
The clock won’t actually start ticking for another 8 hours (6:00 AM Monday). Early drafting is fine (and helpful), but don’t feel obligated to start rushing through the board right away. There are 53 picks this year including the supplemental round at the end (down from 55 last year), so we have about the same amount of time & picks this time. I officially encourage everyone to take this time to scout out potential trades and send out feelers.
***** furt is on the clock. *****
Instructions:
-
Everyone gets 12 hours to make their pick.
-
As soon as you post your pick, please PM the next person to let them know that they’re on the clock. I’m sensitive to the fact that it might be annoying for some to be continually pinged by PMs from this league, but I think this is an entirely reasonable measure in this instance.
-
When your next pick is near, make sure you have an idea of who you might be targeting and/or what types of trades you’ll be seeking out.
-
If there’s some uncertainty about whether you’ll be around when your next pick, consider sending me a short pre-rankings list – you can specify whether I should draft off of it immediately, or only in the instance that your clock is about to run out (or anything in between). Label the PM as a pre-rankings list in the subject line and I won’t look at it I until I have to.
-
Because of the (theoretically) tight schedule, we might not be able to give much leeway if your clock expires. If your clock is running out try to let us know you’re around and working on it, and as long as we’re still more or less on schedule we probably won’t be too cutthroat. In any event, at least at first, don’t jump ahead of someone whose clock has run out until I give the OK. It’s also possible that we may have to shorten pick deadlines and crack the whip if time begins to get short (though this hasn’t been any kind of issue in years past).
-
**All that said, the 12-hour window exists for a reason, and you shouldn’t feel bad about using it. **Just don’t waste it, is all. If you’re actively looking for specific trades, or you want to take some time to consider because you’re really unsure who you want to take, that’s great. Just don’t let the clock run down hoping that your metaphorical phone will ring.

Ok – but only if your clock expires?
For future reference, I’d recommend that people PM me their pre-rankings list, unless you really trust your league-mates not to look or you really don’t care if they do.
Over in the Big League thread, Oakminster just raised an interesting question I hadn’t thought of before: with the NFL’s change in extra point rules this season (moving kicks back from the 2 to the 15 yard line), should we change the scoring in out league? Specifically, we have a hefty -3 penalty for a missed PAT (and also a -3 for missed FGs from 0-19 yards, -2 for misses from 20-29 yards, and -1 for 30-39).
The thinking at the time was that since missing the point after was such an exceptional fuck-up, it should cause you to slap your forehead and say “D’oh!” However, if Kickers are now going to be missing 1 PAT in 17 instead of 1 in 200, it probably makes sense to reduce or even eliminate the penalty.
Thoughts?
Make extra point misses the same penalty as missing a FG of the same length. What are they now, the same distance as a 32-yard FG? So -1, I guess.
For pre-ranking, my thinking is to PM VarlosZ with separate spoilers. No actual preranks in this post, just an example:
Top choice: Choice 1
Second choice: Choice 2
Third choice: Choice 3
Fourth choice: Choice 4
Here’s the actual text used for those codes in case anyone is shaky on spoiler tags:
Top choice: Choice 1
Second choice: Choice 2
Third choice: Choice 3
Fourth choice: Choice 4
This is going to be quite an interesting draft. There’s lots of running backs out there , but quite a few question marks with many of them.
