SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY league: Year Ten

He busted a 62-yard TD run in garbage time, but taking that away still leaves him with 9 for 40 with 1 TD, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Both backs looked great, actually, with Bilal Powell going 10 for 60. Not remotely as good for fantasy, of course, but in real life when you have a back who goes 10 for 60 you have something to smile about.

He’s new, so would somebody please explain to Ol’Gaffer that the “score the second most points in the league and lose” thing is mine.

What a welcome to the league. He puts up over 150 points, and loses, thanks to a Monday night miracle where a guy, in this case Jared Cook, scores the most points he ever has in his career.

I can’t believe I pulled it out.

Welcome to the league, Overly!

Yeah? Well… shit. That was a bad beat. Gotta be Belicheckian about it though, right? On to the next week.

Fuck that! You got screwed. That was personal, like someone in charge knew what situation you were in and decided to target you specifically. Might as well blow it up and rebuild. Send me your best players, I can help. I’m here for you.

Goddamn right it’s personal. I was bad mouthing chucky when I was at the coliseum on Saturday for the A’s game and it bit me in the ass.

Jules posting the pretty draft summary from years ago got me thinking about the cool reporting program I set up years ago. Took me over an hour to find the thing, and then like 4 solid hours to update it to work with the modern Yahoo! interface. (I originally wrote it in 2010.) Once I updated the yahoo parsing, everything else appears to work flawlessly. So here I present to you the GM Standings and Coaching Grades for week 1.
GM Standings: Calculates what your score would have been if you perfectly chose only the highest scoring players on your roster at every position. This is a measure of how well you draft, trade, and manage the waiver wire.

Coaching Grades: The percentage of your potential score you actually scored. If you could have scored 150 points, but the starters you chose scored 100 points, that’s 66.6%, which is a D. (Or is it D+?)

I’ll try to publish it somewhere for downloading, along with complete source code, in case anyone wants to use it. It only works with Yahoo! leagues. Also, it still has the Aggregate function, which I no longer particularly care about but Beef might like it.

Aggregate rankings show how people in multiple leagues did overall by adding up all possible matchups. If you scored the 3rd most points in a league with 12 owners, that adds 9-2 to your aggregate record since you would have gone 9-2 if you faced all 11 opponents. Now imagine you also scored the most points in a 10-man league, that adds another 9-0 so your aggregate would be 18-2.

The aggregate ends up being a bragging rights measure for best (and worst!) FF players on the dope. Here’s a(n actual) sample aggregate post from week 10 of the 2010 season:

Oh yeah the aggregate scores are definitely interesting to me. Especially the ones that list me on top.

I think I might put some work into the program during the season. Right now it’s the same as it was 2010, and while it isn’t terrible, there are some things I would do differently. We’ll see how motivated I get. But it does work, and I updated the ReadMe.txt to help clarify some things that confused me when I first ran it again yesterday.

Download it from googledocs here. (There’s a little down arrow at the top right of that page for downloading.)

No installation required, just unzip it to somewhere under My Documents and run the exe. Complete source code is included, though I zipped it up to keep the clutter to a minimum. It can even run on Mac and Linux using Wine, I think. (See ReadMe.txt for more info.)

I normally wouldn’t include any data file with the download, but the linked zip includes this Dynasty league and the first week of scores. Delete RankFF.dat to restart fresh if you don’t want the Dynasty league data in there.

Quick Start Tip: Click league names (blue because they’re links) to view that league.

Wow $52 for Philip Lindsay.
Is that about what I should have expected?

I think that was a blend of opportunity (for the player) and need (for the fantasy team). It’s an overpay, but a completely understandable one.

That said, I have the following trade to announce:

Jules Andre gives up:
Lamar Miller, RB, Hou

Really Not All That Bright gives up:
Brandin Cooks, WR, LAR

That… is not a good trade for RNATB. Value wise. Guess he’s a little desperate at RB. But the value is pretty horrific.

I’m not really sold on Cooks as a 1, and the cost for an RB1 was too high.

Someone always overpays for a top performer from Week 1.

Last year people paid $44 for Javorius Allen and $41 for Brett Hundley.

In general I think people are overly conservative with their FAAB and usually end the season with a lot of it, so spending too much early isn’t really a big deal.

Exactly, I hated spending any money for Brandon Marshall in a dynasty format, but he’s next man up for this season and I want to make the playoffs.

I got a notification about the pending trade between Hamlet and Petey, but I may have accidentally used my co commissioner status to push it through? Not my intention, I thought it was a veto vote, and I thought I was voting to allow the deal.

Can someone check for me if it is still pending? I don’t want to force it through unilaterally if people wanted to chat about it. On my phone at work, so I can’t access the full page easily.

You did push that through - I do commissioner approval on trades because no one in our league would do anything exploitative and it allows people to negotiate on Friday and Saturday and still have a trade go through by Sunday. If there’s ever a trade that I think would be controversial we could discuss it first, but that doesn’t really come up.

The trade is

Hamlet receives
JuJu Smith-Schuster

Petey receives
Peyton Barber
Geronimo Allison

Thanks for checking. I’ll refrain from pushing that button in the future and leave that to you. My mistake

I have only looked at the box score, I have not checked my team, and I know for absolute certain that I am playing against AJ Green and that Mixon got hurt and left the game. Feel free to make fun of me if both things are wrong.
