SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY league: Year Ten

I think on the SDMB the problem is just that the population is declining - there’s very little new blood coming in. And a lot of the hardcore fantasy players here have been in 3 or 4 leagues for a decade now and their interest just isn’t as high after all this time, so they might drop a league or two, and with no new people to take over those spots we’re just sort of withering away.

This is it. The Dope is stagnant and the folks that are here are aging up. Real life and kids and jobs that don’t have name tags aren’t conducive to obsessive time wasting.

I think a small part of it could be related to the decline of ESPN. I’m somewhat less informed on the non-local teams these days than I used to be and that’s mostly because in my boredom I no longer read ESPN.com and watch Sportcenter by default. My background noise is either a podcast, politics or reddit, it used to be SportsCenter, ESPNNews and Page 2.

My interested waned quite a bit when I started playing DDO in early 2011, then took a severe nosedive in 2013 when the Giants started a 6+ year suck marathon. But now that I’ve given up DDO I find my interest has gone way back up this year, as evidenced by the fantasy rankings I post each week.

Hey, I suggested it [post=21063319]back in July[/post], but then you [post=21065361]poo-pooed it[/post].

I didn’t realize how bad my team was until recently!

Edit: In all seriousness, obviously I meant what I said before - I think it’s way cooler to have a continuously running league for as long as we could hold it together. Who knows, we could celebrate our 20th year. I was just joking about the reset. I do yearn for a new dynasty draft sometimes, but I think having two very similar dynasty leagues would just kind of dilute the fun. There’d have to be something different and compelling about a potential new one to consider it.

The buzzsaw is back, baby! Back-to-back 180/155 scores might be some kind of record for this league. But here’s an interesting stat. I beat **Hamlet **this week and I’ve outscored him by 50 points on the season. However:

Meanwhile I’ve got a relatively easy four-game stretch coming up, except for a matchup against Jules’ inexplicable 1-loss team that might decide the #1 seed. As things stand, I’d be playing dale in the first round, which I’m not thrilled about (though dale is only one game back and could even up our division records by beating me in Week 12).

That’s my only glimmer of hope, as Powell just went on IR.

For some reason, I no longer get notifications from this thread. I’m still subscribed, but they just don’t in any more. So I have a few things to catch up on here.

My guess is that they traded for Hyde because he’s a similar style of player, and in the event Fournette comes back and immediately gets hurt again, they don’t have to change their game plan. I very much doubt Fournette goes on IR this late, especially since the Jaguars are still in the hunt.

I have absolutely no chance against you in week 9 because I’ll have five starters on bye, and a few of my bench options on bye as well. I don’t think I have a shot at the #1 seed, which is a concern.

The interesting part of your comment is the “inexplicable” part. In a way, that’s completely true. I don’t think anyone in the history of the league has dealt with the injuries I have in a single season (Hamlet, of course, deals with an unfair amount seemingly **every **season). Certainly no one has ever had four people go on IR before the season started, right? Then another after the season started. And I doubt anyone has ever had six RBs hurt at a time as I have. I’ve lost 15 games from potential starters (not counting my TE2 who COULD start (another 7), and my QB2 (4) and RB4 (7). Six other times I’ve had a player start a game, in my lineup, and be knocked out for the game before halftime.

This has severely limited my scoring, but it’s also forced me to carry players I don’t want just to fill out my roster. I’ve missed some waiver claims I really wanted because of it. I’ve gotten pretty lucky to be competitive this season… sorta.

Because, on the other hand, is it inexplicable? Yahoo had me projected to have the highest remaining total points for the season every week since the season started, despite the injuries. I’ve had the best projected record almost every week. These are both true as of this moment, mind. My own projections, which are a blend of four different professional projections, had me with the strongest roster by a fair amount (at least until the injuries started the week before the season).

I built my team to be very, very deep. That construction has saved my season, whereas pretty much no other team in this league could have weathered it. So, yeah, it’s inexplicable and lucky. It’s also not.

I’m not saying you haven’t done a good job or that you have a bad roster, just that you haven’t scored many points. You’re eighth in points per game but you’re 6-1. Granted, the top eight teams are - relatively - closer together than in most years, but still. **Ellis **has outscored you by 0.01 on the season (!) but has two fewer wins. Everyone in the Midwest Division has outscored you, but all of them have a worse record.

For what it’s worth, the current power rankings say you will score the most points over the remainder of the season, and the current projections say you’ll finish with the best record. I’m also only favored by 13 points against you in Week 9, even though I don’t have anyone important on a bye.

Looking at my own team, I currently have the #2 QB (going into a bye, but unlikely to drop more than one spot); the #2 and #3 wideouts (though Nuk has played one more game than everyone else), plus #23; the #5, #13 and #16 RBs; the #14 and #15 TEs (I still think Jordan Reed is going to break out at some point this year as he’s #11 in targets); and the #1 and #2 defenses.

Projections over the remaining games for those players aren’t nearly as strong as points to date, but then the original projections were obviously off too (the draft day projections had Beef finishing 11-3). To be fair, I started the season with one playable RB and wasn’t going to have a second until Mark Ingram returned in Week 5.

In other news, Miami’s defense’s complete shitting of the bed (-8 points) means Ellis is now projected to beat dale this week, which could give me an extra game cushion in the division.

I got a ton of luck this week, so I’ll win. My goal was to make the playoffs this season and it’s looking within reach.

Congratulations to dale for getting our first 100% coaching grade for the week. I confirmed that it’s not a rounding 100%; no 99.6% (or whatever.) A legitimate perfect 100%. Well done!

Did you know on draft day I was projected to finish the third seed? I didn’t see my absolute falling off of the face of the Earth this season.

Welp my employer finally blocked the SDMB so you won’t be hearing from me as much. But I won again. Still not excited about the prospect of playing Dale in the first round.

You did win, congratulations! You beat a team with 8 players on bye, 4 players on IR, and 2 more questionable starters who both were declared out. Hell of a win!

Oh Chubb you’re my only hope in life

Well after being a 70% favorite through most of Sunday and I ended up losing by less than 2 points in a comeback victory. I also sat Allen Robinson who finally came through this week.

It’s not a happy time for Jordan Howard, I purchased him at the exact wrong time. I had no idea his use would go down to nothing even in big victories.

Chubb is looking like he may be a top RB.

I forgot that fantasy football doesn’t have to be painful. I really don’t want to jinx myself, but I’m pretty happy that I only have one player on IR, which is a huge change for me. I’m 2nd in total points (and 3rd in points against), 5th in standings, and I have a real shot at making the playoffs. And I like the youth/depth of my roster.
