Whoops. I was in class and in a hurry.
Well, if we were gonna skip somebody, furt’s the guy to skip: we’re working off of a pre-ranking list, so it’s easy to fix.
Retroactively, with the 4th pick in the 5th Round, furt’s Fightin Quakers select Ty Hilton, WR, Baltimore.
I’m up next; give me a little bit to figure this out.
Man, I really wish I had a pick in this round. Some very good players coming off the board.
What would you be willing to give up for a pick?
Sorry for the delay.
VarlosZ selects Cyrus Gray, RB, Kansas City.
Justin Bailey is up.
The Gusterrhoids select Devon Wylie, WR, Kansas City.
Ellis Dee is up.
6.1 – New York Fanboys - DeVier Posey, WR, Houston
Petey is up. PM sent, and when I make my last pick (which could be in an hour or so based on the timestamps of Petey’s picks) I’ll repost the complete draft list, filled in with all picks.
Last pick:
Arizona Defense

When will be able to make transactions? I need to replace some of my players. Because they suck.
If Varlos sets the draft time to sometime today, presumably we’d be able to do it right after then.
Otherwise, we won’t be able to make transactions until 9/4 after 8:45 PM (Eastern).
I’ll see if I can get a draft slot for tonight.
Ok, the draft should go off at 8 PM Eastern tonight. I won’t be able to watch it, but hopefully somebody will (just so they can tell me what it looked like). It wouldn’t be the worst thing to give the draft results page a quick check to make sure everything looks right, though we will have plenty of time to fix any mistakes after the draft.
All free agents will be on waivers for the next two days. In other news, Yahoo now provides the option for waivers to work “correctly,” so players should automatically go on waivers every week at the start of their *respective *games (no more manual adjustment or honor system). They also added draft pick trading functionality, but probably we won’t get a look at that until next season.
Ok, at first glance the draft appears to have gone off successfully. I’d encourage everyone to double-check their rosters so that any mistakes can be fixed before Wednesday, when walking back errors becomes potentially problematic.
I am in the market for a top-flight RB. I’m willing to package Ben Tate with middling prospects and next year’s first round pick to get it done.
The draft looks OK, but I plan to doublecheck it later today or tomorrow. But I did notice that the schedule isn’t customized yet.
Since it’s Labor Day, and I am doing nothing except sitting around drinking, I decided to do a Power Rankings/League Preview for the 2012 Dynasty League. The rankings are based on Yahoo projected points so don’t get mad at me for the ordering. The rest is all my opinion.
Divisional Strength:
- Midwest (6917.77)
- Sunbelt (6408.10)
- Northeast Corridor (6376.70)
1. We Do HGH (1951.36 points)
Rookie Draft
1.11 – We Do HGH - Kendall Wright, WR, Tennessee
2.11 – We Do HGH - Juron Criner, WR Oakland
3.10 – We Do HGH - Vick Ballard, RB, Indianapolis
4.9 – We Do HGH - Nate Kaeding, K, San Diego
Honestly I thought I drafted pretty shitty this year. Wright should be good, but Juron Criner was a total panic pick after the guys I really wanted (Turbin, Pierce, Randle) went right before me in a row. Vick Ballard might turn out okay, since nobody in the Indy backfield is all that impressive.
Team Outlook
Good team, lots of depth, yadda yadda yadda this isn’t about me.
2. Exploding Pankcakes (1945.19 points)
Rookie Draft
1.1 – Exploding Pancakes – Trent Richardson, RB, Cleveland
1.12 – Exploding Pancakes - Isaiah Pead, RB, St. Louis
2.7 – Exploding Pancakes - Stephen Hill, WR, NY Jets
2.12 – Exploding Pancakes - Josh Gordon. WR. Cleveland
3.11 – Exploding Pancakes - Brandon Weeden, QB, Cleveland
I liked Beef’s draft a lot. Trading up for T-Rich keeps his running backs extremely young, and he was able to pick up Isaiah Pead and Stephen Hill who are probably only a year away from contributing. The only concerning aspect of this draft is that Beef picked only picked players from the Browns, Rams, and Jets, three of the most anemic offenses in the NFL over the past few seasons. On the other hand, they have to improve SOMETIME, right?
Team Outlook
Potential title team with the #1 QB, three top-12 RBs, and Gronk. Depth is a little concerning this year, especially at WR. Nelson seems unlikely to repeat 1263/15 but some of that production could end up sliding to Finley. Thomas could jump to WR1 territory if he and Manning stay healthy, he certainly has the talent.
3. CuteWiddleBunny(Hmlt (1733.66 points)
Rookie Draft
1.3 – CuteWiddleBunny – Robert Griffin III, QB, Washington
2.3 – CuteWiddleBunny - Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis
3.3 – CuteWiddleBunny - Bilal Powell, RB, NYJ
Real nice draft here with RG3, Fleener and Bilal Powell. Unfortunately it’s hard to see RG3 getting on the field anytime soon with Stafford/Rivers in front of him, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of these QBs get traded depending on how RG3 shakes out. Fleener has elite-TE upside and Powell is getting a good bit of camp hype since Shonne Greene is not a good football player.
Team Outlook
Ended up 10th (5-9-0) last season despite scoring the 3rd most points, mostly due to 2nd most points against. Part of this is playing in the best division, but it’s hard to survive having 10 more points scored against you per week than the league average. This is a solid team with strong QBs (Stafford/Rivers) and WRs (Harvin/Marshall/Smith), but a bit thin at RB. If AP has a great year I expect Hamlet to be fighting for the wild card.
4. Isotopes (1707.91 points)
Rookie Draft
1.5 – Isotopes – Doug Martin, RB, Tampa Bay
2.5 – Isotopes - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Miami
3.5 – Isotopes - Jacob Tamme, TE, Denver
4.4 – Isotopes - LaVon Brazill, WR, Indianapolis
5.3 – Isotopes - Rod Streater, WR, Oakland
6.2 – Isotopes - Arizona Defense
I love Doug Martin (drafted him in almost all my redraft leagues), but the Tannehill pick felt a little bit like a reach. I realize that this team needs to get younger at QB with Peyton/Flacco/Alex Smith, but the Dolphins seem to be going the wrong way and I’m not sure I’d use my 2nd round pick on a questionable QB when guys like Robert Turbin were still on the board. Love the Tamme and Streater picks but LaVon Brazill was not on my radar.
Team Outlook
This team suffered pretty bad last year from Manning missing the season, and still finished 5th. With likely the 2nd or 3rd best RB corps in the league (McFadden/FJax/Martin/Ridley/Bradshaw/Hillis) and solid young WRs (Steve Johnson/Lloyd/Bowe), if Peyton stays healthy this team should be fighting for the wild card.
5. Fightin’ Quakers (1660.76 points)
Rookie Draft
1.6 – Fightin’ Quakers – Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle
2.6 – Fightin’ Quakers - Ryan Broyles, WR, Detroit
3.6 – Fightin’ Quakers - Mohamed Sanu, WR, Cincinatti
4.5 – Fightin’ Quakers - Chris Givens, WR, St. Louis
5.4 – Fightin’ Quakers - T.Y. Hilton, WR, Baltimore
Considering this team’s 2 QBs going into the season were Kolb and Moore, Russell Wilson was essentially a must-draft. They love Wilson in Seattle, and I have been picking him as a high-upside backup in my redraft leagues. Broyles/Sanu/Givens/Hilton are more or less project WRs
Team Outlook
Pivotal year for this team as the once-elite players (Andre Johnson and MJD) are still productive but likely starting the downswing of their careers, and the young guys may not be ready for primetime. This team needs nice years from Maclin, Sproles and Mike Wallace to be effective, since the bench depth is more or less full of projects.
6. Varlos’ Zzzzzzz (1638.14 points)
Rookie Draft
1.7 – Varlos’ Zzzzzzz - Justin Blackmon, WR, Jax
1.8 – Varlos’ Zzzzzzz - Michael Floyd, WR, Arizona
2.8 – Varlos’ Zzzzzzz - Robert Turbin, RB, Seattle
3.8 – Varlos’ Zzzzzzz - Marvin Jones, WR, Cincinatti
4.7 – Varlos’ Zzzzzzz - Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Pittsburgh
5.6 – Varlos’ Zzzzzzz - Cyrus Gray, RB, Kansas City
Great draft from Varlos here, nabbing two of the top WR prospects and Robert Turbin. Go look at Varlos’ WRs. I’ll wait.
Yeahhhhhhh, pretty good eh? Dwyer and Gray are nice stash RBs, and honestly Dwyer could get a real shot this year with how bad the Steelers RBs are.
Team Outlook
Best WR corps in the league by far, a nice QB committee of Ryan/Romo, but unfortunately really weak at RB. It was smart for him to draft the 3 RBs he did, but without a trade this team will really struggle to cobble together production at the RB slots.
7. RetroVertigo (1637.12 points)
Rookie Draft
1.9 – RetroVertigo - Brian Quick WR, St. Louis
2.9 – RetroVertigo - Bernard Pierce, RB, Baltimore
Only two rookie picks for this team. I wanted Pierce to fall to me, but I had a number of available players above Brian Quick on my board. The good news is that the Rams’ don’t have much depth at WR so Quick could get on the field a lot sooner than some of the other project WRs.
Team Outlook
Nice starting lineup for this team (QB: Brady, WRs: Austin/Jennings/AJ Green, RBs: CJ2K/Michael Bush/Greene) but the bench depth is pretty shallow. If there are no injuries this team should be in the wild card hunt again.
8. Ides of Martz (1588.58 points)
Rookie Draft
1.2 – Ides of Martz – Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis
2.2 – Ides of Martz - Ronnie Hillman, RB, Denver
3.2 – Ides of Martz - Danny Almendola, WR, St. Louis
I actually really liked this draft of Luck, Ronnie Hillman and Danny Amendola. With Roethlisberger entering his 9th year in the league, Cassell being generally a bad QB, and Jake Locker still being mostly a project, getting Luck is really nice for this team. Danny Amendola is immediately startable, which is something you can’t say about many 3rd round picks, Ronnie Hillman has been impressing in camp and is likely a future starter.
Team Outlook
I love how young this team is. Andrew Luck, Torrey Smith, Julio Jones, DeMarco Murray, Donald Brown, Kyle Rudolph could be a real nice core over the next few years. I am not sure this team will be competitive this year, but I love the youth and upside of both the starters and bench.
9. The Gusterrhoids (1570.65 points)
Rookie Draft
1.10 – The Gusterrhoids - Alshon Jeffery, WR, Chicago
2.10 – The Gusterrhoids - Rueben Randle, WR, NYG
3.9 – The Gusterrhoids - Bills Defense, DEF, Buffalo
4.8 – The Gusterrhoids - Terrance Ganaway, RB, NY Jets
5.7 – The Gusterrhoids - Devon Wylie, WR, Kansas City
This team grabbed a couple high-upside WRs in Alshon Jeffery and Rueben Randle (both guys I wanted) and got the Bills defense in the 3rd (with their new toy Mario Williams). He has 3 good RBs and 2 good WRs so it was smart to fill out the WR depth trying to find a possible WR3 for this year.
Team Outlook
This is actually a solid team except for QB (Dalton/Fitzpatrick/Gabbert) and RB depth. If Dalton turns out to be legit, this team should outperform projections. The other downside is that if Forte/Gore/McGahee get hurt there is essentially no RB depth to fill in.
10. New York Fanboys (1507.15 points)
Rookie Draft
1.4 – New York Fanboys – David Wilson, RB, NY Giants
2.4 – New York Fanboys - LaMichael James, RB, San Francisco
3.4 – New York Fanboys - Martellus Bennett, TE, NYG
4.3 – New York Fanboys - A.J. Jenkins, WR, San Francisco
5.2 – New York Fanboys - Brandon Tate, WR, Cincinatti
6.1 – New York Fanboys - DeVier Posey, WR, Houston
7.1 – New York Fanboys - T.J. Graham, WR, Buffalo
This team is desperate for RBs with SJax/Pierre Thomas as the 2 starters, so taking two RBs to start was really smart. I like David Wilson a lot, but I would be hard-pressed to have taken him over Doug Martin. However, I’m sure it will be more fun for the Fanboys to root for a Giants player so I cannot argue with the pick too much. The rest of the picks are more or less project WRs, and this team needs to find a WR2 to compliment Cruz so it was good to take a bunch of stabs at it.
Team Outlook
This team is in rebuilding mode, as he turned over more than a quarter of his roster. I would not be surprised to see his aging-but-still-productive vets (SJax and Gates) get shopped this season for young talent if he is not in the playoff hunt.
11. Warner’s Brothers (1413.21 points)
Rookie Draft
2.1 – Warner’s Brothers - Lamar Miller, RB Miami
3.1 – Warner’s Brothers - Chris Rainey, RB Pittsburgh
4.1 – Warner’s Brothers - Nick Foles, QB, Philadelphia
5.1 – Warner’s Brothers - Jeff Demps, RB, New England
Traded the 1.1 pick for Jimmy Graham so this draft looks a lot better with that factored in. Love the Lamar Miller pick, since I think the Dolphins hate Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush is not going to last much longer in the NFL. Rainey has as much of a chance at playing time as any of the Steeler’s backfield, and Nick Foles could absolutely see the field this year. Jeff Demps is on IR now, not sure he is worth a stash.
Team Outlook
I actually like this team a lot despite Yahoo’s projections. Top-tier QB options in Brees/Newton, the top TE, and some young RBs who could be top 20 options this year (BJGE, Ryan Williams, CJ Spiller). WR is a little rough but if Moore/Heyward-Bey get healthy this could be a surprising team.
12. 9 Inch Neils (RNATB) (1331.86 points)
Rookie Draft
3.7 – Nine Inch Neils - Vincent Brown, WR, San Diego
4.6 – Nine Inch Neils - Scott Chandler, TE, Buffalo
5.5 – Nine Inch Neils - Lestar Jean, WR Houston
RNATB traded his 1.7 and 2.7 picks for Mike Williams and LeGarrette Blount so he is excited about the Bucs this year. I like the Vincent Brown pick a lot that late. Chandler is pretty much bye-week filler, but Lestar Jean could win the WR3 spot in Houston, and I don’t think it would take much to win the WR2 job since Kevin Walter is pretty boring.
Team Outlook
This team has no real holes, but is also relatively unexciting. Schaub is fine, but being drafted outside the top 12 in redraft. Nobody is excited to draft Boldin/Mike Williams/Meachem and Reggie Bush/Turner/Benson but they are all starters who should provide consistent production. I disagree with Yahoo’s projection that this is a 12th place team, since the starting lineup is solid but boring, and there are some playable young bench players like Tate and Vincent Brown.
Indeed, indeed..
I think pretty much all of this is spot on. I can’t really argue with Yahoo!'s ranking much; I scored the second fewest points in the league last year. Still, if you take out week 13, I averaged over a hundred points per game, and lost two games where I scored 115 or more.
I do need some flash, and I think it will come in the form of a quarterback or running back trade.
This is fair. I’ve got my fingers crossed that Dalton is for real, but I still believe that Gabbert will at least rise to the level of productive starter someday. But you forgot to mention that I also have Gore’s backup, Brandon Jacobs. So if he gets hurt, I’m not quite as screwed as I would have been last year when Jacobs was with the Giants.
