SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Six

I agree. Honestly, I don’t really care that much about how a given league is scored except the goofy NFL.com default, which awards return TDs to the DST but not to eligible players.

Ok, my lineup is set. It really is about a coinflip, though I fully expect to lose. (But I’m pulling for you, Ellis.) I need for dale to lose in order to guarantee I make it into the consolation bracket.

Oy, what a season. Literally every RB on my roster has underperformed relative to their expectation at the start of the season, most of them disastrously so. I guess I’ll have to console myself with ending Beef’s season in the He Hate Me league, en route to my #1 seed there.

You know you want to throw the HHM game. You’ll get a chance to beat me in the playoffs, and who doesn’t love when the worst team in the league makes the playoffs?

If we were to hold a new draft today, starting from scratch, what would your top 10-20 cheatsheet be for players? IOW, who are the top 10-20 dynasty players to own?

Maybe a little WR heavy…

  1. Andrew Luck
  2. DeMarco Murray
  3. Alshon Jeffery
  4. Demaryius Thomas
  5. Jordy Nelson
  6. Le’Veon Bell
  7. Dez Bryant
  8. Russell Wilson
  9. Aaron Rodgers
  10. Antonio Brown
  1. Dez Bryant
  2. Julio Jones
  3. Demaryius Thomas
  4. A.J. Green
  5. Antonio Brown
  6. Calvin Johnson
  7. Alshon Jeffery
  8. Andrew Luck
  9. Rob Gronkowski
  10. Jimmy Graham
  11. Josh Gordon
  12. Sammy Watkins
  13. Mike Evans
  14. Aaron Rodgers
  15. Jordy Nelson
  16. LeVeon Bell
  17. Odell Beckham Jr

Gets kinda rough for me after this. A bunch of RBs I guess but besides LeVeon there aren’t any RBs under 25 who I think will be stars for 5 more years.

I don’t know that I would value Bryant and Thomas that high. Both are sure to have new (worse) quarterbacks in the next couple years. And Beckham is a million miles from #17.

Also I ranked based mostly on talent and age and very near-term situation. Thomas and Bryant are both UFAs in 2015 (though I assume they resign you never know what team will have them in next few years.)

I don’t think situation is all that big a concern with top tier wide receivers. Josh Gordon had one of the best receiving seasons in history (in 14 games no less) with Brandon Weeden/Jason Campbell throwing to him. I mean, situation still helps, but it’s unlikely a guy like Bryant or Thomas is going to go somewhere next year and be average.

Tell that to Oakland-era Randy Moss. Or 2011 Reggie Wayne. Or Larry Fitzgerald more or less since Kurt Warner retired. Or Andre Johnson for his entire career, at least with regard to scoring.

I think your examples have more to do with those particular WRs than with their shitty QBs.

Randy Moss had one good season in Oakland (60/1005/8) and one bad (42/553/3.) With Randy’s attitude problems, I’m not convinced this was entirely due to bad QB play. I remember watching Randy quit on routes constantly in 2006.

Reggie Wayne was 33 in 2011 and had been a low-ceiling possession receiver even before this.

Larry Fitzgerald had one of his best seasons (80/1411/8) in 2011 with Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. This one actually has me stumped the most, as Larry was only 29 in 2012 with Carson Palmer (an above average QB), but posted one of his worst seasons (71/798/4.)

Andre Johnson was a stud from 2006-2010 (averaged 93/1271/7.6 over those 5 years) but then he turned 30.

If I had to expand out to 20, it’d probably go…

  1. A.J. Green
  2. Jimmy Graham
  3. Josh Gordon
  4. Sammy Watkins
  5. Rob Gronkowski
  6. Odell Beckham
  7. Eddie Lacy
  8. Matt Forte
  9. Julio Jones
  10. Arian Foster

I don’t want to post the rest of my top 25 because it makes me sick how many players on my list Beef owns.

Is it Ellis Dee time?

Where is everyone? No love for Ellis snatching the division away after being 4-7 3 weeks ago? Petey beat me pretty handily (well, with two of my best still to play) but it’s likely we’ll get a rematch next week.

Woot!

snoopy dance

I needed both me and VarlosZ to win, and we both did in decisive fashion. I’m going to the playoffs, woohoo!!!

Congrats Ellis, do the Northeast division proud.

Very nice Ellis.

I’m on vacation in England, but I see I am putting up another thrashing when it doesn’t count.

It’s tricky to know what to do with Martavis Bryant. Every week he makes 1 or 2 catches, and one of them is a 60 yard TD. So you think it’s flukey and it’s going to stop, but then it happens every week. So I guess he might deserve my flex spot, but he’s just waiting to post a 0 when he doesn’t get his one big play.
