SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Six

PLAYOFFS

#1 Isotopes (2nd playoff appearance)
vs
#4 Exploding Pancakes (5th playoff appearance)

and

#2 We Do HGH (5th playoff appearance)
vs
#3 New York Fanboys (2nd playoff appearance)
Since it’s the playoffs it’s time for some bragging that nobody will respond to.

We Do HGH has…
Their 4th points title in 6 years.
Their 5th Midwest division title in 6 years.
The first 6-0 division record in league history.

I better enjoy it while it lasts, my RB window is closing fast.

I’m bored at work today so I’m gonna go through this year’s interesting add/drops. I need to pay more attention to DSTs that pass through the WW in this league, as both Miami and Baltimore (two top 10 defenses) were available on the wire early on. The best pickup of the year was pretty clearly Justin Forsett, and I attribute most of my success this year to having him.

Early season pickups

We Do HGH
Justin Forsett - $55 - RB8

New York Fanboys
Larry Donnell - $5 - TE10

Varlos’ Zzzzzzz
Miami DST - $12 - DST6

(but Varlos dropped them so that…)

CuteWiddleBunny
Miami DST - Free - DST6

Varlos’ Zzzzzzz
Baltimore DST - $6 - DST10

Exploding Pancakes
Bobby Rainey - $12 - RB34

The Gusterrhoids
Eddie Royal - Free - WR38

RetroVertigo
Devin Hester - $11 - WR41

We Do HGH
Denard Robinson - Free - RB32

(but I dropped him so that…)

Exploding Pancakes
Denard Robinson - Free - RB32
Mid-to-late season pickups
These 2014 late bloomers contributed almost immediately after being picked up, but ranking them against everyone else by total points scored doesn’t really make sense. All these guys look like potential future starters depending on how things shake out.

Varlos’ Zzzzzzz
Charles Johnson - $28

Nine Inch Neils
Daniel Herron Ind - $55

New York Fanboys
Mychal Rivera - Free

Exploding Pancakes
Martavis Bryant Pit - $26

Didn’t contribute much this year

These guys may turn out to be solid contributers down the road but haven’t put up many points for how much WW money was spent on them. It’s not quite fair on guys picked up very recently since their owners are likely just throwing the rest of their waiver budget at them.

Isotopes
Stedman Bailey - $51

CuteWiddleBunny(Hmlt
Antone Smith - $21 to pick him up once, $2 to pick him up a second time

Warner’s Brothers
Owen Daniels - $28

The Gusterrhoids
Theo Riddick - $30

Warner’s Brothers
Travaris Cadet - $33

Exploding Pancakes
Bryce Brown - $31

Fightin’ Quakers
Gavin Escobar - $31

I’ve made the playoffs in this league before? For real? I totally don’t remember that.

You made it to the title game in 2010!

So this week sucks. I have my worst matchup of the season for almost all my players. And Isotopes has what I think is his highest projected score of the season. It’s a worst case scenario both ways.

Rodgers and Nelson have to face a Buffalo defense that totally shut down Peyton Manning. Gronk faces Miami, the best team in the league against tight ends. Andre Ellington got IRed. His likely replacement, Ryan Mathews, is playing against one of the best run defenses, and he’s too injured to practice this week. The other option, Denard Robinson, is facing the toughest defense to run against and he has a foot sprain. I need to fill a second RB slot. I may have to start Trent fucking Richardson with all these injuries. Even Roy Helu has a one week foot injury.

Only McCoy and Thomas have middle of the road matchups, and Thomas has a bum ankle.

Meanwhile Petey has green matchups for most of his starters (I have zero unless I start Martavis Bryant).

So I see an early exit from the playoffs this year followed by scoring 400 points in the last week just to piss me off, just like last year.

Fourth place, here I come!

Guys like Rodgers/Nelson/Gronk/Thomas are matchup proof. Just because the Fins are great against all the other scrubby TEs in the league doesn’t mean they can cover Gronk.

Woo Hoo! I just checked the site and I have what is listed as a bye this week!!

And here I thought I had a crappy year, but instead, I earned a bye during the first week of the playoffs. I rock!!

I think they’re definitely matchup-resistant. But Peyton Manning just got held to like 4 points last week by a great Buffalo defense, and you’d probably think he was matchup-proof too.

I can’t believe I dropped the Buffalo defense last year.

We should get rid of DST and K next year.

I’m fine with getting rid of kickers, but I’ve always thought DST was one of the most interesting positions in fantasy. It’s one of the more matchup-prone positions and gives you real choices at that position unlike a lot of others. It’s also an interesting aspect of dynasty leagues - they’re the only entities that will be there year after year, never hurt or cut or retiring, and their value is something that you have to look ahead years to try to predict.

I’m hating the Buffalo matchup against the Packers this week. I wish they faced almost anyone else. Instead I’m stuck with the Giants, who play Washington.

In all seriousness I don’t think it’s fair to change the positions after the league has started (Varlos traded a pick for Gostkowski recently, for example) but I have been trying to eliminate kicker in all my fantasy leagues.

If you have a good way to predict future DST performance…I’m jealous. It seems to me to be all matchups and injuries to me, neither of which I can predict. Even the vaunted Seahawks from last year who looked like a DST powerhouse for years to come have been disappointing this season.

I’m banking on Pittsburgh reverting to their defensive-minded ways eventually.

Good luck, LeBeau is 104 years old next week.

Fuck my life. Andre Ellington, IR. Denard Robinson, IR. Ryan Mathews out. Even Roy Helu, out. My options at RB are Trent Richardson, Bryce Brown, or Bobby Rainey.

Trent Richardson, how do you still keep getting chances to disappoint me?

Meanwhile Petey has the highest projection ever.

Fuck it. I’m not giving Trent Richardson the priviledge of ending my season. I picked up Marcel Reese from the waiver wire. If Richardson goes for 2 TDs now I’ll lose my shit.

lol I think you gotta flat out cut TRich if you play Reece over him in the playoffs.

He’s a young kid. Never really got a chance. He’ll develop.

Yeah, I don’t know why I don’t cut him at this point. I probably will after the season.

Reece has put up like 22 points over the last 3 weeks, he always has a late season surge with the Raiders, so it seemed like the better play.
