Ok, our keepers are all entered on Yahoo. The Draft Results page is here. Take a quick peek, make sure everything looks right. I think I entered all the trades correctly, but may have missed something.
None of the picks in the first three rounds are being used on keepers this year, but the draft rapidly dwindles after that. I count 54 total picks in the normal draft.
IMHO, having seen & entered every keeper manually, teams are generally far too hesitant to cut players who are almost certainly locked into career backup/rotation player/very marginal starter status. Better to just cut them and instead use a 4th Round pick on a rookie who will be be a backup now, but also maybe a starter later. And if he isn’t, you can just cut him and roll the pick the over until you find someone who does stand a good chance of starting. Make of that what you will.
Justin Bailey is the only owner who gets any placeholder keepers because of trading away picks. I gave him Logan Kilgore because that sounds cool, and Vince Young because I thought it was funny. (**Stringer **would get one, but his IR player winds up filling his 25th roster slot now.)
The clock won’t actually start ticking for another 12 hours (6:00 AM Sunday). Early drafting is fine (and helpful), but don’t feel obligated to start rushing through the board right away. There are 55 picks this year (up from 45 last year), so we don’t have quite as much breathing room this time around, but still should be just fine. I officially encourage everyone to take this time to scout out potential trades and send out feelers.
***** furt is on the clock. *****
Instructions:
Everyone gets 12 hours to make their pick.
As soon as you post your pick, please PM the next person to let them know that they’re on the clock. I’m sensitive to the fact that it might be annoying for some to be continually pinged by PMs from this league, but I think this is an entirely reasonable measure in this instance.
When your next pick is near, make sure you have an idea of who you might be targeting and/or what types of trades you’ll be seeking out.
If there’s some uncertainty about whether you’ll be around when your next pick, consider sending me a short pre-rankings list – you can specify whether I should draft off of it immediately, or only in the instance that your clock is about to run out (or anything in between). Label the PM as a pre-rankings list in the subject line and I won’t look at it I until I have to.
Because of the (theoretically) tight schedule, we might not be able to give much leeway if your clock expires. If your clock is running out try to let us know you’re around and working on it, and as long as we’re still more or less on schedule we probably won’t be too cutthroat. In any event, at least at first, don’t jump ahead of someone whose clock has run out until I give the OK. It’s also possible that we may have to shorten pick deadlines and crack the whip if time begins to get short (though this hasn’t been any kind of issue in years past).
**All that said, the 12-hour window exists for a reason, and you shouldn’t feel bad about using it. **Just don’t waste it, is all. If you’re actively looking for specific trades, or you want to take some time to consider because you’re really unsure who you want to take, that’s great. Just don’t let the clock run down hoping that your metaphorical phone will ring.
Well Varlos, you hurt Sam Bradford. Kenny Britt catches a 36 yard pass, and Bradford falls over with an exploded knee. You must’ve known this would happen.
I know who I’m taking, but if anyone wants to trade up to 1.1, give a shout. Looking to trade back in round 1. Definitely interested in acquiring picks in next years draft.
How are we doing on that 1st pick? Clock runs out in six hours. In trade talks?
We basically have 11 days to get through 55 picks, meaning we need to average about 5 hours per pick from this point on. Now, things will go faster towards the end, but OTOH, some picks might take 10 hours no matter what since people need to sleep.
(Just checking in, don’t mean to crack the whip or anything.)
Just wanted to give it overnight. Don’t worry, we’re going to be fine.
Bishop Sankey, RB, Tennessee.
I’m not big on Sankey IRL, but the only person in his way for carries is Shonn Greene.
Sammy Watkins is not going to be huge in fantasy, IMO. Nearly all the top-10 fantasy recievers in the NFL are big guys; Watkins is in the Percy Harvin / DeSean Jackson mold, and those guys don’t often post the 90-1300-10 yard type seasons.
Email notification is now apparently broken for the entire board, including notices for both PMs and thread subscriptions. Awesome timing!
So, please check in on the draft (and any trades in your inbox) manually more frequently, I guess. And please continue to send PMs to the next person up after you make your pick.
God willing this will be fixed shortly, by means other than a 72-hour board shutdown.
As per the email I just sent out, for now we may as well notify the next man up via Yahoo (League >>> Email League). It might not be necessary, but I’ll still be using PMs in addition to the Yahoo-emails; make you own call on that one, but do please send the email.
We’ll see how things go. In all likelihood we’ll cope and get things moving once everyone realizes they can’t count on emails to ping them when they’re slot is up … but if I were writing a scenario by which we’d have a disastrous draft, this is how I’d start it.
Gotta keep taking shots at those hard-to-find starting RBs, I guess. I would have just taken a WR, but, then, that’s been my problem since the start of this league.
If you think you may trade for an upcoming pick, start sending messages to the person before it’s their turn. Obviously the deal is contingent on the guy you want getting there, but at least we can start having ballpark discussions so that people don’t have to say “opening up the floor to trades…” and wait 10 hours every time they’re up. If you think you may trade, open the dialog a couple picks ahead.
