SDMB Forza 4 Car Club created

First off, the DLC is good stuff. I played around a bit, but I haven’t yet laid down times with the Karmann Ghia. I will eventually. But…

The reason why that has been on the back burner is because I have been grinding out the Factory Driver achievement. Finally, after endless months of playing and 91% of the game complete, I got it with AMC. I have the Gremlin, Pacer and Javelin, and of the three the Pacer is probably the best overall when modded though the Javelin can compete at higher levels. The Gremlin, with no wheelbase, no weight in the back, and three speeds, is a nightmare at the limit, every bit as precarious as my Pinto and the Javelin is very, shall we say, spirited. Good luck without traction control when driving the Javelin. The Pacer, however, just goes where you tell it to go with little drama, and because of its dimensions it is almost impossible to roll. It just looks goofy, which is the allure for me.

So, it took me 2701.88 miles and 36 hours, 19 minutes and 40 seconds of driving, but I got one of the three big grind-it-out achievements. I already had World Tourer, which is a race on every single track including dragstrips and point-to-points.

The last grinder is Bucket List, and at the rate I play recently that will take me another few weeks but it will get done, leaving me only Forza Faithful and making me break out Forza 3 for a while. Once I’ve finished all of the achievements it’ll be time for Horizon, but I’ll still play this a good bit, maybe learn how to drift. Who knows?

I do know that this is the longest I’ve ever stuck with a game, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It isn’t perfect, to be sure, but there’s little that I would change. I could stand for them to get rid of the drifting, I have exactly one perfect drift, done only for the achievement, compared with over 10,000 perfect turns. I know that drifting is the thing for some players, but it’s nothing but a hassle for the vast majority of us. At the minimum they shouldn’t peg an achievement to it, give the drifters titles and badges out the wazoo if you must but not an achievement.

Also, with 650+ cars, a few more tracks would have been nice. Alas, we got Benchmark and Car Soccer for DLC and that’s it. That’s a missed opportunity I hope they address in Forza 5. As far as Horizon goes, all of the cars introduced so far have been noting more than copies of cars already available in this game. If they want to keep people who are burned out on 3 and 4, they need some new stuff.

I’ve temporarily downgraded my Xbox Live account. Have some mildly modified MGs and '58 Sprite, a Class-S Karmann Ghia, a Class-S '63 Herbie, and a proper Fabulous Hudson Hornet for '52 (as opposed to a '52 with '51 livery) to share when I get around to upgrading.

Is it possible to fall IMMEDIATELY in love with a car?

If so, I’m madly in love with the Healy Bug Eyed Sprite, it’s just so Frelling Perfect!

My first lap round the TGTT I had a grin on my face wider than the Sprite’s grille, the handling was perfectly balanced and predictable, powerslides were dead easy, enter a turn, lift off the gas a tad, the rear end starts to break free, counter steer and feather the gas to slide through the corner in style

Plus, it just looks so… HAPPY with that toothy grin up front, how could you not like it, even the car is laughing at itself, in a good natured way…

…and this is coming from someone that HATES “cute” cars with a passion (like the current Mazda 3 and it’s moronic grin…)

I’m going to purchase a Sprite, drop a small supercharger underhood, to make up for the slight bogginess off the line, but leave everything else stock, as this one fits my driving style perfectly as it is

So close, yet so far…

It seems that if you bought the Porsche DLC, it counts against the Bucket List achievement. The people who got the achievement before the DLC get to keep it, but I have another hundred races to go.

Have I gone too far to give up now? Yes, but after grinding out so much of the game you would think that an add-on wouldn’t have so much weight to it. Maddening.

So this morning I got Bucket List. All that remains is to dig out my copy of Forza 3, run a race or two, create a vinyl group and import it to Forza 4, and I’m done. To celebrate I took Sam Stone behind the woodshed in every Rivals event he came up as an opponent in so he should have about 10 notices the next time he plays.

I’ll post my overall stats later.

Oh, are we going to start a new thread for Forza Horizon, or is there no real interest? I suppose we can talk about it here for the moment, if that’s OK.

Isn’t it, though? My friend and I who race together decided to race the sprites - we upgraded them mildly to the top of the F class, mostly in handling with just a touch more power. They’re an absolute hoot to drive, and you have such great visibility.

When live racing with a friend, it’s more fun to race the slower cars, because it keeps you closer, and cars with low power really punish you for blowing a turn. So even if your opponent gets ahead of you, if he screws up even a bit on a turn you’re right back on him. Great fun.

Of course you know, this means war… Except that I’ll lose. I’ve tried to beat some of your rival times, and once in a while I’ve just missed by a whisker, but I can almost never beat you. Still, I’ll have fun trying!

As for Forza Horizon, I’ll be buying it. It looks like a lot of fun. Haven’t tried the demo yet, but maybe I will tonight.

Just for fun I ran an “I pity da’ fool!” Race up Fuji B

My heavily modded GMC Vandura 1500 in A-Team livery, class A, 522 PI RWD van

Made it up in 3:18, this thing was a major handful the whole way, too much power to the rears, coupled with a lack of weight over the rear axle made it want to snap around in the hairpins, you like oversteer? This is the vehicle for you, and none of that prissy AWD stuff either, Mr T. pities AWD…

I’m going to remove the A-Team livery and share this monster, think it’d be fun to have a “Pity da’ fool” race on the full Fuji course…

Sounds like fun. I’m in.

Also, I’ll be pathetically waiting in line for the release of Forza Horizon tonight at midnight.

Quick two-minute review on Forza Horizon:

It’s a Need For Speed game with realistically modeled cars. No damage, cheesy street-racing dialogue, bonus points simply for driving, outlandish races, an open world with some things to do but still easy to get to the races without driving all over God’s green Earth. Also, it’s visually stunning. It’s like it took the best of both series and put it together. Since I like both series, it’s working for me. Those of you that like hardcore driving simulators may want to stick with 4 and wait for 5.

Thought I had preordered Horizon at BestBuy.com but never received the email that it’s ready to be picked up. Checked the site and it’s still sitting in my cart!
:smack:

I just picked up Horizon tonight. I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, but hopefully tomorrow.

If you guys get Horizon, I started the car club already. Same name and everything, just let me know so I can send out invites.

I’ve got it and played some last night. If wou want to invite me, that’d be great.
