SDMB is changing

Yeah I’m a little confused about Tapatalk too. There is another forum I use it on where it seems kind of wonky, not navigating sub-subforums correctly. But for SDMB it’s completely smooth, utterly intuitive.

I have never been redirected to the App Store from the SDMB on Safari on my iPad.

NM. Misunderstood.

The exact same thing happens to me. I get sent to the App Store or some other weird thing every time on my phone, but have no problems on iPad.

I don’t understand the problem. I am posting this from my iPhone and had no issue. When I went to www.straightdope.com and hit the message boards button, a popup asked me if I wanted to learn about tapatalk. I said no, and started to browse like normal. Maybe you should check your phone settings. What version phone/safari do you have? This is my first post from my phone and the only issue I am having is with autocorrect.

Honestly, the problem is that it’s possible to be redirected to the app store from a web page. That should always require a specific action from the user. I do not know why Apple doesn’t include this.

Hey Sparky! Have you considered Tapatalk??

I kid, I kid!!

I wonder if anyone is having these issues (the redirect to wherever) who is a MEMBER and not a GUEST? If it’s being triggered by an ad, members don’t see ads, so poof, no redirect from an ad. Or so it seems to me.

Apple isn’t likely to stop anyone form entering their store. Even if directed there against your will, you may stumble upon something you must have, and buy something. You know, just like a real store! :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t get redirected, I get asked, and I am a guest.

You get asked what? About using Tapatalk?

If yes, that’s not the issue. Everyone gets asked the Tapatalk question once, then a cookie is stored instructing the phone not to ask again (mmmm… cookie).

The problem I am having is being redirected to the App store. It’s literally impossible for me to stop the redirect. This makes it impossible to access the SDMB from my iPhone on Safari (it just keeps redirecting, never allowing me to “see” the SDMB page I want). Oh, and I’m writing this now from my laptop, hence no issue.

SDMB is the ONLY site I have this issue with. That leads me to believe it is the SDMB, not me.

Edit: and I won’t use Tapatalk due to the poor experience and waste of money I had with them before, hence not an option, no matter how good they may be now.

Oh, I thought that you get autodirected to the App Store for tapatalk. I have written my last 3 messages in this thread from my iPhone 6. This is the first time I have ever used my iPhone for the SDMB. I don’t know what different settings you have for Safari on your phone, but it is working fine for me.

I have an iPhone 6 as well.

The redirect was happening last winter at random, which caused me to stop visiting the SDMB as much as I used to. I don’t travel anymore, so I’m on my laptop more often, and so started visiting the SDMB again. And now access via my phone is pretty much a constant redirect issue, so I have again stopped.

Basically, as long as I don’t try to access via my phone, then I’m all set.

As probably all of you know but I’ll say it anyway, mods are here to moderate the content not to handle technical issues. They would have to double my salary at least. However when problems like this do occur we do make sure the information is sent to the right people. This issue has been brought to the attention of the proper people and it is being looked into right now.

This device won’t redirect your web search, ever …

Just got redirected twice on my phone (Android 5) out of three viewed threads. Once to Uber, one to some game on Google Play.

We’re trying to figure out what’s going on. Judging from this post:

… it appears this has something to do with iOS, the iPhone operating system (although maybe not, since we’re getting reports from Android users as well). The fact that (a) this has been happening on other sites since last spring but has only showed up at the SDMB now, and (b) some people see it and some don’t suggests it may have been dragged in by an ad. (Different users see different ads.) We’ve asked our ad provider to look into this. We apologize for the inconvenience.

FYI: I installed Google Chrome on my iPhone at about 20:00 EST and was still getting the redirect.

I’m trying it again with Chrome on my iPhone at 21:00 EST and the redirect seems to have stopped.

Just tried Safari and no redirect.

So maybe it’s fixed?

The G. Wienie is the most P. of TPTB, so somebody’s incorrect upthread.

Can you post in plain English? I know what you said, but others might not.

Just went SDMB on my iPhone 6 and got directed to the App Store for the Lyft app.
