(Obligatory links to Bridge Over The River Kwai from week 13 and week 1 for new people.)
This was another movie I hadn’t seen. I knew nothing of it, and waffled whether I should purchase the standard DVD or the special edition for eight bucks more. With those eight bucks, I could have gotten Roger Corman’s Deathsport about futuristic dueling motorcycles. It was a tossup, but I decided to support the economy, so I bought the special edition as well as the Corman classic. Deathsport has now been added to my movie collection, fitting between Dangerous Liaisons and Full Metal Jacket. I can’t decide if I should be aghast or not. Hopefully it won’t leak futuristic dueling motorcycles into the Malkovich-Thurman seduction scenes. (Well, actually, I hope it does. That’d be pretty fun to see.)
I couldn’t decide if I would have been happier had Walter Matthau played opposite Jack Lemmon rather than Tony Curtis. (It’s the original Odd Couple! Duh da da DA DA… erm.) I did come to one conclusion, though, and that was that it’s a terrible shame the CIA-mafia-Russian conspiracy had to kill off that cute young actress. Regardless, though, it was a pleasure to watch – not counting Singin’ In The Rain, it was the first comedy on the list, and I was laughing out loud or grinning like an idiot for the entire duration.
(Here’s hoping that this week I’m able to actually contribute to the discussion…)
And, as always, we’ve got movie sign.
