I have never seen any of the sequels to Die Hard, even though I liked the original quite a lot. I also have not seen Gone with the Wind. What movies are you embarrassed that you haven’t yet seen? What movies haven’t you seen yet, even though everybody you know has recommended it and you know that you would probably like it? What Classics have you missed?
Not embarassed, but I’m proud to have never seen Titanic. And this is from a guy who watches a ton of movies. I also only recently saw Forest Gump. Thought it was okay. Having heard all the catchphrases for the last decade, it was kind of spoiled.
As for the Die Hard sequels, you only need to see the second one. The other two have the same character in name, but they are entirely different types of movie. Not bad action flicks, but they shouldn’t have been called sequels IMHO.
Damn! And here I was thinking that I was the only one alive who’d never seen Titanic. But I’m not embarrassed about that.
I’ve never seen Citizen Kane or Spartacus though. And hardly anything with John Wayne.
I have seen almost no silent movies other than by Charlie Chaplin. I have never seen a single iranian movie and very few french ones. I’ve gotta watch a lot more John Ford.
I sometimes think I must be the only person who has not read or seen any James Bond. Really.
You may still have the edge on me because I did see one scene. It was on TV and it was the poker game scene. “Oooh, a poker movie I haven’t seen!” I thought excitedly. Then Leo shows four Aces to win the hand. “Whuh?” Even in movies where one of the guys is cheating, they have the sense to make is something believeable. If someone shows four aces in a movie, there had better be a good reason for it! It was only after I changed the channel that I realized it was Titanic.
To add to my first post, I’ve never seen any of the classic Westerns. They bore me to tears.
In Yahoo!'s Top 100 Movies – how many have you missed? which links to 100 movies to see before you die (link still active as of this post), I had this to say.
I’m not all that embarrassed about them, and will try to see them if/when they show up on TV, but there they are.
I’m not the least embarrassed by missing at least 80% of the movies being produced these days, nor their counterparts over the seven decades I’ve been around. I used to think the movie options began in the early 40’s and made it a point of not trying to watch anything older than I was. But over the years I have mellowed on that point and have seen a good number of those oldies.
The only thing embarrassing about missing movies is when everybody else in the conversation has wonderful (or not) things to say about one that I haven’t seen. Sitting silent is a burden, so I’ll usually say, “Oh, that movie sucked!” (even if I never even saw a trailer for it.)
I have never seen 2001: A Space Odyssey;* Apocalypse Now*; Chinatown; Dr. Strangelove; The French Connection; Pulp Fiction; or The Third Man. There are a few others on that list I haven’t seen, but I guess I don’t care much if I haven’t seen Wild Strawberries.
Haven’t seen a lot of the “classics”.
Among those I’ve never seen (and have gotten dirty looks for admitting to):
Gone With the Wind
Rocky Horror Picture Show
any Hitchcock films
Apocalypse Now
Pretty Woman (seen a couple clips on TV but never the whole movie)
The Breakfast Club
Casablanca
any westerns
Schindler’s List
Jaws
any of the “Elm street” or “Friday the 13th” or pretty much any scary movies
Can’t think of more right now but the list is LONG. People will ask me if I’ve seen this or that movie, and the answer is usually no. Which is weird, because I do watch movies. Just not the right ones, I suppose.
I have never seen Casablanca. I have, however, seen Return of the Living Dead more than once.
I’ve seen bits and pieces of the Brosnan films, but none in their entirety, and not more than a minute total of all the rest of the Bonds combined.
As to the OP: I’ve not seen most movies, and only a handful filmed before the Seventies.
Of all the movies mentioned so far in this thread, the only ones I haven’t seen are Schindler’s List and Wild Strawberries.
To add some new titles, I haven’t seen ET or any of the Batman or Spiderman movies.
Citizen Kane
I’ve never seen Dr Strangelove, Citizen Kane, or Apocalypse Now.
I have never seen Casablanca or Citizen Kane or The Maltese Falcon.
I’ve never seen Lawrence of Arabia, because I want to see it on a big screen first.
I haven’t seen a lot of Bergman, which is embarassing since I am Swedish and Bergman is one of our national treasures. I have seen a couple of his movies though.
My big gap, though, is with classic Hollywood. Current mainstream Hollywood I got well covered, but the 40’s and 50’s is like an echoing chism.
I don’t like movies and never go see them. Most of the stuff I get from Netflix is for my kids. So basically, the entirety of that medium is one huge gap to me. It’s not particularly embarrassing to me, though, so I might not fit.
I love movies, especially the old classics. If it’s been on AMC or TMC I’ve seen it. I looked at the IMDB’s top 100, screened out unfamiliar foreign movies and the only ones I missed that I want to see are Fight Club, Reservoir Dogs, Rashomon and Hotel Rwanda. (Hotel Rwanda will be on our PBS station on a Saturday night coming up soon.) I recently saw Quantum of Solace and I didn’t see Casino Royale first, so I’ll have to go back and see that too.
Whoa, I’d say the opposite. Skip Die Hard 2 and see 3 and 4. The last two seemed like sequels to me that actually tried, while 2 was just lame.
