SDMB Newbie Diplomacy game

So, when’s Winter adjudication, and, more importantly, when will Spring orders be due?

When our noble GM has the time presumably - probably my fault since i’ve only just got my disband in (had an emergency as work).

Just because you are traitorous infidel scum doesn’t mean you can be impatient…

Ha! Pagan!

(Hope everything’s okay at work… Tony Blair’s website get a DOS attack?)

nope:

  1. otherDept with incompetent techies

  2. bright idea about otherDept using an automatic query on myDept system

  3. Something bearing a striking similarity to an Alderson Loop

Personally i think you may have planned it to distract me from my new dip situation.

Had no idea that there was a name for that. What an ignomious legacy young Alderson has left for himself. Of course when I was in University MSAccess hadn’t been invented yet (I think), so Mr. Alderson hadn’t had time to get his name in the textbooks. Around here we just call it “f*cking up”.

Must admit it didn’t come up in my History degree either. God knows where i heard it but it stuck in my mind - and it has a jargon-file entry so it must be right…

Here’s my rough ranking of the powers:

  1. Austria – 5 units pounding away at Turkey. Many options for the 2 builds. Forces are concentrated and working together. No second front. Good job, Shib!

  2. France – 5 units split on 2 fronts. Nice job charging across the Rhine and into the Mediterranean. The builds will help to strengthen fronts or provide a home guard. But angering 3 people at once is not a good idea.

  3. England – Forces are well concentrated. Could clear out Scandinavia or Germany soon, or could change directions.

  4. Turkey – Forces are strung out; Italy’s Lepanto provides something else to worry about. It’ll be hard to finish off Russia without losing home centers.

  5. Italy – The Lepanto comes a bit late, allowing France time to deploy a Mediterranean fleet. You’ve got two fronts to deal with. On the bright side: You’re not last! If you can hold off France long enough to gain some more builds, you’ll be well set.

  6. Germany – Good news is that your forces are compact and can work together. Bad news is that you’re dropping to 2 units. Good news is that France’s stabs may be eir undoing. See Jonmarzie’s assessment.

  7. Russia – The northern fleets could yet link up. The southern army is little more than a bargaining chip right now. Regain a home center (there’s a few options to do this) and you might come back; people have been known to rally from this far back and win the game.

Dip veterans, what do you think of my assessment?

I like the Austrian bit!

I bloody don’t!

seethe…seethe…

My good news is that I’m not last?

I’ll join garius in seething…

tell you what soup, as my ally in seethiness how about we try one of those reverse lepanto things…

oh.

um.

Shibb, would you mind pretending you didn’t hear that?

The new map is out with adjustments. Webpage is updated, and the new deadlines are as such:

Deadlines:
Spring 1904: Wednesday, March 12th, 5PM
Fall 1904: Saturday, March 15th, Noon
Winter 1904: Sunday, March 16th, 5PM

I may be seething, garius, but not THAT seething.

Didn’t hear what?

Sorry, Il Supe, that came out wrong.

I’ve done my research at the Dip Pouch. Italy has a bad habit of being left behind when the battles really get going. Italy often starts out slow; the question is how to speed things up.

As I see it, your country has some good options for growth. The trick is to get those centers and have that growth.

If anyone wants to see a strange endgame, look here. I got it in a general Cat-23 email. A ring of Turks!

Wow, if I’d known you could do that I would have never stabbed Turkey. Garius, will you have me back?

There’s the destinctive stench of the forging of knives this Spring.

Ah, I love the smell!

Knives?

And here I was trying to outfit my troops with guns. Silly me.
Hey, Turk, care to discuss Moscow again?

awwwwwww man, but i like Moscow - it has really pretty buildings and everything.

Soup He built a Fleet in Trieste and an Army in Vienna - what does Shibb have to do?? put a note through your frikkin’ door???

And Shibb, its too late now, there’d be no trust in our relationship, and how can i be with you if i can’t trust you.

Sorry but we both have to move on.
