A quick rundown –
Austria - No great shakes. So far, so good
England – Aggressively to the north, do you really hate Russia this much? Do you really want to be stuck in St.P?
France – England as a friend, and a convenient bounce in Bur?
Germany – Always good to be anti-French. Where’s that Italian support?
Italy – Take a shot at Greece. Shibb will love you for it.
Russia – What is Warsaw holding for? Is he asking for invite? Gal is Russia’s. Make sure Austria knows that.
Turkey – All the outrage about a Lepanto, but someone forgot to tell Italy. Controlling the Black is always a good thing.
I’m glad ppg_shg stepped up. I’d like to play peanut gallery for this game too, but I’m supposed to be unbiased and stuff so I’ll hold off.
Except for poking fun at Shibb – but I’m sure that won’t bother anybody, will it?
Another thing – if all you -GRY players want to watch another game develop, hie yourselves over here and do some peanut gallery work your own selves. We are hurtin’ for commentary.
Hell, I owe Shibb a shot or two. But he’s been awful quiet lately.

Maybe we should deconstruct that last game at some point, once all of the bile is gone. Can’t say enough about Germany’s bizarre moves in that game. I did try and post some comments here around 1-2 pm, but the hamster’s would have none of it. I was anyway just trying to do what White Lightning just did.
And it is making me just a wee bit uncomfortable when all of my former “friends” from Dip 1046 keep peeking in this thread.

Personally I would like that, although Nate has so many games going, he probably can’t remember, and I believe I have received a good hearty dose of WL’s thoughts on the matter.
People do often get overly emotional about these things. I hope everyone here can keep their heads, particularly the Hapsburgs.

Certainly not for a barbecue. I betcha he’s dangerous with a spatula.
I hope nobody reads any implication here that I’m holding a grudge. After I was eliminated from 1046 (quite soon after, IIRC) I wrote ppg_shg an email to let him know that nothing from that game would carry over once that game ended, and that there certainly were no enduring hard feelings.
Not that I’m exactly happy with his behavior so far in Abe’s game. But that’s a matter for another thread.
At any rate, I’d love to participate in a 1046 EOG thread (or continuation of the 1046 thread that’s already in the 2002 SDMB HOF). A lot of interesting stuff happened in that game.
Hey, what can I say? In electronic form it’s sometimes difficult to tell if the vitriol is for show or serious. I had a good time in Dip 1046, although it became a bit of a grind at the end. Of course, part of that was strategy, sort of like rope-a-dope or the four corners strategy in basketball. It seemed to have worked, too, for the most part. If anybody wants to bump the old thread back up somewhere or start a new one I’ll try and put my perspective in there. Might be useful for the new players here if they’ve got the patience to digest it all.
And I was jesting (hopefully) about tender feelings on that one. I really enjoyed playing with McG, WL and JC in that one, although I felt particularly bad about stabbing JC. And it was probably the worst stab in the history of the game. Maybe I just don’t have the stomach for a good stab.

A-hyuh. Like I’d go to Dallas.
In my view, 1046 was miserable. I started on the basic Lepanto, but couldn’t get any support from Russia, so sailed all the way back to stab France, and have the gains immediately taken away by the pasty-faced Englishman, helped Austria gain strength, while not taking any for myself, then to be stabbed by him.
On reflection, I should have taken Turkey up on his repeated offers to help anyone take down Austria. That could have given me a land force in the Balkans.
If only.
Guys, since we all seem to be waxing nostalgic already, why don’t we shift this discussion to 1046’s own thread?
Or maybe start a new one like Shibb suggested. That one’s already a monster, and would be a lot to wade through. On the other hand, it’s also got some good material for any interested newbies.
