Sdmb nfl mock draft

Thanks for the commentary earlier about the Cowboys.

I’ll pick up the Cardinals and keep things moving. Sure am learning a lot about different teams.

I understand the Cardinals would like OT help. With Saffold off the board, this pick feels like kissing your sister, and so the Cardinals with the 88th pick take Tony Washington, OT, Abilene Christian. (Too bad that Pink Taco didn’t win the naming rights after all…) In all seriousness, I understand he’s got some skills and size (walter football wrote that he was a first-round talent, FWIW), but is handicapped by playing for Abilene Christian and, well, you know.

My cheat sheet says the next need for the Cardinals is TE. So, with the 89th pick, the Cardinals take Jimmy Graham, TE, the U. Yet another basketball player, but with middle 4.5 speed, he’s a gamble given that he hasn’t been playing football all that long. I don’t believe the Cardinals have used a lot of TE as receiver in the past though, but perhaps with his speed and hands that could change?

For the Cowboys, the 90th pick will be Carlton Mitchell, WR, South Florida. Couldn’t find a DE or OG I wanted instead. Supposed to be speedy, if a bit raw.

If the Giants needed an OLB, that would be reasonable logic in the second round. You don’t take out-of-position conversion projects in the first.

But that’s moot anyway because the Giants don’t need OLB. They desperately need a MLB. You recall that they released Antonio Pierce, right? Who’s the starter, Chase Blackburn?

Of course they take Weatherspoon in the first if McClain is off the board. There is no other sane option. Ignoring the MLB position to bring in two OLBs – one being a first round pick who didn’t even play LB in college – is just plain crazy.

Come on, you know you don’t really believe this. You honestly think a safety would be a better MLB than Weatherspoon? For real?

No. I think Mays will be a better football player than Weatherspoon.

New page, so I’ll repost and update:

33 (97) Titans (Compensatory selection)
34 (98) Falcons (Compensatory selection)

The Chargers (Roland or TheBoltEater) are up. We’ll give them a couple hours, then the Brownies.

No word from the Chargers.

San Diego Chargers select Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama.

The Browns (Senor Beef, who is around), is on the clock.

I had a tough time here, this is a pretty savvy mock. I wanted a receiver here but my top choices have all gone since my last pick. The guys I wanted at safety are gone too.

I’ll take Jordan Shipley, WR, Texas to continue his good chemistry with McCoy.

Minnesota Vikings select Myron Lewis, CB/S Vanderbilt.

Indianapolis Colts select Al Woods, DT, LSU.

The Saints (Oakminster) have lost all the guys on their proxy list, so they’re up. The Bengals (It’s not Rocket Surgery) are next, then the Titans and Falcons. Then, onto Round 4.

Working on my pick now.

I didn’t realize we’d be doing a round 4 - are we going to try to do the entire draft?

I’m going until I’m bored, or the real draft catches up. These are the picks I find most interesting. You better get back online and find out which 4th tier QB prospect wets your whistle.

With the 95th pick in the 2010 SDMB NFL Mock Draft, the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints select…
**
Anthony Dixon, RB, Mississippi State**

The Cincinnati Bengals select:

D’Anthony Smith, DT/DE, Louisiana Tech

Interesting. I have Dwyer, Gerhart, McKnight, and Hardesty all rated higher.

Bengals up.

Does anyone want to grade this somehow? I was thinking adding up the differentials between where a player was selected in the mock and the actual draft would provide an interesting score (ie if someone drafted a player at slot 50 for their team and he actually went at slot 56 in the draft, it would score a 6 - lower is better). But that isn’t connected inherently for drafting for your team, just predicting where players will go.

That sounds reasonable, and not hard to do. We’ll have to make sure the right Doper gets credit.

Yeah, on second thought, that system doesn’t really work right for scoring, although it would be interesting information. Let’s say for instance there’s a player I thought would be mid-2nd round talent but in our mock he somehow slipped into the 4th round. I snatch him right up based on value - but then in the actual draft he goes in round 2. I get penalized with a big gap because he went 2 rounds earlier than I predicted, but it was a great mock pick for me.

Tennesse Titans select Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinnatti.

Atlanta Falcons select Ed Dickson, TE, Oregon.

So here we are:

Rams (Omni) is up. I’ll be gone for a couple hours, if any picks come due, feel free to select.

I think Dixon may be the best back that nobody ever saw last year. He played for the lowly Bulldogs, so he didn’t get much publicity, but the guy had a good year running the ball in the SEC. Tough, durable, and a nasty runner. Likes to hit people.

That’s part of the problem, I think. Guys like that don’t tend to last too long, spend too much time with little dings, and will be running into bigger, stronger guys. It’s the third round, so it’s not really a big deal, but I’m concerned that Dixon already has a ton of mileage on his tires and, while he’ll be a good complementary back, Dwyer has more shake and better vision, Gerhart is faster, McKnight is more explosive. Of course, I haven’t seen Dixon play, so take it for what its worth.

The Rams finally look to the defensive side of the ball and you know Spags likes his pass rushers and he finds a really good value here.

St Louis Rams
99) George Selvie, DE, South Florida

Selvie played opposite Jason Pierre-Paul and was the more consistent and productive of the two players. He lacks the raw athleticism but makes up for it in skills, effort, consistency and leadership. If not for Pierre-Paul getting so much hype and taking away some of the numbers in his senior season Selvie probably would have been talked about as a 1st rounder, if he’d have come out last year he’d probably have been a top 15 pick.
