SDMB NFL Pick 'em and Survival Leagues 2025

10-12 through the 4:00 games. My best week on the season so far.

Oh, except the site didn’t save my picks, so 0-12 on the board. Grrr.

Oh, that’s a bad break.

My performance in the spread contest very closely mirrors my betting success (I was DFL after last week).

The Chiefs beat the Raiders so badly that those who picked them in survival should get a strike back.

It is a massacre.

Two players picked the Bills who lost solidly to Miami. Five picked Carolina who lost out to New Orleans.

Three survived with Detroit, one with Seattle, and Jahiegel becomes our last perfect survivor with Denver.

After the week 10 massacre, we’ve gone 2 weeks without any strikes

It is all down to single results. With the Giants 10 points up in the 4th quarter I was very worried about my Lions pick (that two others had), if that had gone the other way we would have gone from 9 to 6 survivors.

Absolute carnage for the Thanksgiving day games in the pick em.

I was thinking the Rams losing to Carolina must’ve got someone in survival, right? But no, no one picked them. Unlucky13 lost with the Ravens and Hamlet lost by not making a pick.

The pick 'em scores were pretty low this week, but most people came through in survival.

Credit to asterion who was apparently 7 points sure in the confidence pool that Carolina would beat the Rams.

The pickings are so slim in survival that the Cleveland Browns (against the Tennessee Titans) are the 2nd most picked team across yahoo. Tampa Bay has a full 65% of picks which is probably the highest I’ve ever seen. Certainly if they lose it will be catastrophic to survival.

@SenorBeef not sure if Yahoo allows it, but would you be able to fix my picks for last week?

Somehow I screwed up when entering my Pick 'Em and Spread picks for the Sunday day games. I completed my Confidence picks correctly, so you could transcribe those choices onto the regular pick 'em and spread games. Not the end of the world if not, since I would only gain a few points, but figured I’d throw it out there.

Yahoo doesn’t allow any sort of editing of picks in the pick em leagues, sorry.

Tampa Bay did indeed lose and while that devastates the yahoo survival competition as a whole, only 3/7 of us picked them. No one picked the #2 most popular option, Cleveland, which also would’ve been a strike. That’s the last strike for Jegpeg and Jahiegel picks up his first strike. That leaves us with 3 players with 1 strike and 3 players with 2 strikes.

The six of you are doing fantastic in this bizarre year.

The pickings are getting very slim in survival, not many people with good teams left

I dare one of you to pick the Raiders or the Giants

4 correct picks this week and 2 strikes.

So… have we ever had people survive through the season? Because we’re going to this time. There’s only one game left, and two players with one strike, so those two people will have to make it to end of the season.

We have a “continue through playoffs” option on, but IIRC isn’t that a separate contest on a reset where everyone starts fresh at the start of the playoffs? It doesn’t seem terribly fair if the normal competition continues through the playoffs since a lot of people may have their playoff teams all used up. I suppose you could strategize for that if you anticipated that happening, but I’m not even sure that’s how yahoo survival works.

I’m not quite sure what’s going to happen after next week.

My survival options are awful this week. By point spread, the biggest favorite I can pick is Minnesota hosting Green Bay. I guess Green Bay is resting their starters for Minnesota to have a 6.5 point edge? Or Chicago -2.5 hosting Detroit. Or Baltimore -3.5 at Pittsburgh. Atlanta -3 hosting New Orleans. I want no part in any of those games.

My other options are underdogs.

Yes. I (and others, of course) made it to Week 2 of the playoffs a few years ago. You start fresh and obviously only get 1 strike

3/5 teams got a strike in the final week of the regular season. Two on the Bengals. Obviously you never bet against the Browns.

It’s only the third strike for Jahiegel. The other two had one strike and could afford to take the hit.

Which means that at the end of the season we have 4 survivors, all with 2 strikes:
Gloria Gaynor
Raza Lives
Indiana Poidogs
SenorBeef

I’m not sure what yahoo uses as a tiebreaker, and if nothing, what we should use as a tie breaker. Latest date of first strike? Latest date of second strike?

Jahiegel was our last perfect survivor and ended up burning out before the end of the season while a few of us rode the edge for a long time. A little surprising.

If I recall correctly, if everyone is eliminated before the playoffs start, then everyone is alive again and it becomes its own new competition. But since we have 4 survivors through the regular season, it appears that the four of us are still extending the original contest through the playoffs. Our previous picks are reset and we have an option to go with any team in the playoffs, but I would assume you can only use each team once.

I see a few of you didn’t make a pick for the Rams/Carolina game so I wanted to remind you that both survival (if you’re still alive) and the pick em leagues run through the playoffs.
