These last 2 weeks have been a little ridiculous in the survival league.
Yeah… I was so worried about the damn Vikes… they finally won, and then it looked like the Jets were gonna lose - which would be great for me since it would’ve got rid of half the remaining players - but it turns out everyone wins. Bah.
NOTICE: Thursday night football starts this week, so picks are going to have to be made early from here on out. Kickoff is 8:20 Eastern. A mass PM reminder might not be a bad idea.
Will do. I set it up so that the survival picks still aren’t due until 1pm ET Sunday. I didn’t want anyone to forget the Thursday night game and get booted from the contest.
Incidentally, I don’t know if anyone believes me, but I wanted to pick the Browns against the last two matchups (NO, NE) that they won and almost did. Every time I pick the Browns to win a game they’re a strong dog in, I think “ok, you’re just being a homer, don’t do it”… the best I’ll do is take what the average person thinks is a 12 point confidence game and knock it down to 7 or 8. Maybe I should go with my gut. At least I picked them against the spread.
Nine games this week with a spread of three points or less. Yee. Ouch. Gonna be a tough one…
I sent out a batch of reminders for tonight’s game. Couldn’t get a PM to stuffy (turned off) or roosh (forget the SDMB name). You only have to pick tonight’s game for now, you can do the rest of them before the weekend. Survival can be picked anytime before Sunday at 1pm.
FWIW, (assuming I’m doing the calcs correctly) DVOA has them beating the Jets outright this week.
Well, yes and no. Their DVOA ratings are very close, and Cleveland is *well *within the margin granted by home field advantage. Cleveland actually has a *better *Weighted DVOA (9.0 to 8.9, but still).
On the other hand, in FO’s picks against the spread and confidence points picks available to subscribers, they have the Jets winning outright (3 confidence points), and Cleveland as the pick against the spread, but as a “stay away” game. Despite being involved in the early stages of setting up FO’s spread picks system[/bragging], I’m not sure what other factors they’re throwing in, and don’t care to speculate.
I think the Giants will pull it out, but Varlos has to be nervous.
Edit: And St. Louis just scored a TD, so Gray Ghost too.
You guys make up half of the remaining perfect survivors.
Varlos is our lone strike this week. We’re down to 3 people with perfect records.
So this week is pretty tough.
My options are:
Cowboys over Lions
Jets over Texans
Falcons over Rams
SF over TB
Chargers over Broncos
and of course some other options that I like even less.
I don’t like a single game this week
How is the answer to your dilemma not taking the Jets? Texans are going on the road, to a physical defense, and benign weather (so Sanchez will be able to do most of what he wants to do.) True, the Jets can be really inconsistent this year, and the Texans might bounce back emotionally after that loss, but I see the Jets just running away with this one.
Don’t forget picking the Thursday night games. I’m not gonna send out a PM reminder cause it’s not a big deal if you miss one game, but I figured I’d remind everyone in the thread.
It’s amazing – every week I send out a bunch of reminders to everyone in the pool I run, yet I never seem to clue in to the fact that I should probably put my picks in to other pools.
Apropos of nothing, I sat next to Herm Edwards on the flight I just came in on. Didn’t talk to him or anything - he exuded “Leave me alone”. Anyway, I doubt he could have helped me with my picks.
There seems to be a display bug at Yahoo showing the survival league status. From what I can tell from their message boards, it’s affecting a bunch of leagues (and other sports) and not just us.
Yahoo seems to be having an issue this morning - unable to save my Confidence Pick’em picks. Fingers crossed they’ll get the issue corrected
Chk Demon
Update - have been able to save picks, but not assign confidence points
I narrowed down my survival choices to San Diego vs Denver and Dallas vs Detroit and I really don’t like either of those games.
You guys who picked Cinci must have been feeling pretty good when they were up by 28.
