SDMB Nomenclative Philosophy

There is a dentarthurdent, who obviously subscribes to the aforementioned understated elegance of the no-caps, no-spaces theory.

You can guess my thinking on the matter.

This is, of course, the correct procedure, except you forgot to put a number at the end.

Clearly this is the more genteel. Numbers optional.

Decidedly more genteel…

ditto

[sub]How long can these be anyway?[/sub]

I dunno, but it better start getting funny real quick or the mods are gonna nail it up.

Certainly. Positively. Emphatically.

Agreed.

Cajun Man and horde have it right, I think.

(Although, in my case, plain Maximino was taken. I like my handle because it’s allitaricious and puts me in good company in this thread, but I am not actually especially mighty.)

While Sue Duhnym, Captain Amazing, Spiritus Mundi, Jack Batty, Cajun Man, Wicked Blue, Darwin’s Finch, Some Guy, and Terminus Est are correct about the spacing, they all forgot that the ENTIRE first word should be capitalized. Now guys, we are supposed to be fighting ignorance here, not spreading it.

You’re all wrong.

Well, some fascinating opinions there.

Harking back to the original post, allow me to hazard a few guesses.

Underscore_People such as bean_shadow really wanted to be Hyphen-People, but Hyphen-People are not allowed in here. Thus bean-shadow became bean_shadow.

Space People such as Cajun Man have it right. They lurked awhile before registering and saw that spaces were good.

JoinedUpWordPeople like Weirddave are either Weird or they didn’t lurk long enough to discover that Space People were admitted. Note the lack of a capital ‘D’ in dave. That’s definitely Weird.

lowercasepeople like iampunha like to use small letters because they don’t have to chop and change between CaSeS.

Unlike TheLoadedDog, I think that AbbySthrnAccent and FairyChatMom knew about spaces but decided not to use them. I like that.

There are a few of Dopers who worry me, as follows:

waterj2
ShibbOleth
ITR champion
dwyr (not one vowel!)

These are completely non-standard and the Moderator should do something about them immediately.

The most memorable and efficient names are those which employ a Capital Letter at the beginning and have exactly 11 characters in one word. I don’t have a cite for this so my word will have suffice.

I worry someone… cool.

hehehehehe…

Shoot, I was so overcome with elation at being noticed that I forgot to add this.

A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y.

(Haven’t used that since grade school.)

Atreyu’s almost right.

Literary (and movie) names are OK, but mythological and legendary names are the Ideal.

I’m an anal-retentive capitalizer, myself.

Can I put in a vote for capitalized compound words that are nonetheless incomprehensible?

And do I get brownie points for shyly suggesting that sometimes ‘w’ functions as a vowel?

And I add a vote for Capitalised Compounds Of Common Words That Have Meaning Outside The Board As Well As In…
