generated some discussion about whether and why the poll was outside the norms of the SDMB (and possibly society in general).

This poll is an attempt to gather some data beyond just the opinions posted so far.
There are two sections that are independent - 2 polls basically. One for SDMB boundaries and one for opinion of male thinking.

I can only select one option, can’t do the two-part thing as you intend. Perhaps you should re-do the poll with checkboxes instead of the radio buttons?
