I think what people were saying is that somebody asking women to describe their nipples is gross, tasteless, and disgusting not the actual nipples themselves.
That penis poll wouldn’t even capture just how weird this poll was. You’d have to say things like “stalwart manstaff” and “dickly delight” and shit in your OP, and then have like four different options for the shape of the urethra opening.
I wonder, OP, how many people, having never seen that thread, are going to read your reaction to it and agree with you, and then go look at the actual poll and say oh wait. No, wait. That is fucking bizarre.
I think your paraphrases are kind of missing the point. It’s not that nipples are gross. It’s that the weird mix of clinical precision with sexual reverence is the kind of thing you do in shitty entertainment to indicate to the audience “this boy ain’t right.” A nipple doesn’t have to be off-putting in order for the use of the phrase "Areola shape: Elliptical (oblong) " to be off-putting.
Hmmmmm, good questions. I don’t know, I guess clinical doesn’t bother me as much as it did others, or strike me as creepy, it strikes me more as general curiosity. And I can be pretty prudish in a lot of ways (and to some of you, let it GOOO, just let the fap be free will ya? :D).
What I DID think was more that it was a bit personal, but then people could, or could not answer as they wished. I didn’t really equate nosy with creepy. The outrage just seemed really disproportionate considering the general mood of the board where sexual things (and the usual openness concerning them) goes.
I don’t think the reaction was disproportionate at all. There was clearly a line crossed, and we are a vocal bunch. I see that your opinion differs, but obviously you’re in the minority. I give this pitting a C-, and that’s with extra credit for being gracious about the response.
CanvasShoes, I’ll admit I was surprised by the reactions, too. My first thought when I started to read the thread was: we’ve finally found the limit of what Dopers will talk about.
It honestly didn’t strike me as any more weird or creepy than things like, “how do you like (name the sexual practice)?” Or “tell us your pimple stories”. Especially since the poll itself is blinded.
Well, it’s not the first time I’ve been very much in the minority around here. Probably won’t be the last.
There’s a big difference between talking about nipples in general (okay), choosing to talk about your own nipples and sharing what you feel comfortable sharing about them, and being asked to describe your nipples in great and odd detail in a public forum. Especially if you’re a woman and the asker is a man- nothing against men, but many women have had a lot of negative experiences with salacious strangers and eventually you develop reactions ranging from to :eek: to :mad: to :o to to :dubious: .
