Yes, but that makes no sense to apply that on a message board where said guy ABSOLUTELY CANNOT be some guy who is going to try to rape you.
I can see not wanting to answer, but getting up in arms about it is stupid and irrational. Telling someone they aren’t allowed to ask something because you’re offended is the exact opposite of what we do here. We instead constantly tell people that they have no right to be offended (as I’ve heard repeatedly).
And your allegations that you are in the majority is false. There are just as many people answering the poll as any other. It’s just that there’s a very vocal minority who have a problem with it. Not that questions of morality need bow to popular opinion anyways.
Why do people act so dumb sometimes? No one said the guy shouldn’t be “allowed” to ask about nipples! Just that it is a creepy thread.
And just because the guy can’t rape you through the internet does not take away the creepiness factor.
I just clicked on the thread and glanced at the OP. The length of the poll alone turned me off. So I can’t really say if it’s creepy or not. But if a person says it’s creepy to them, what is the freakin’ point of arguing with them about it? It’s how they feel. It’s not a “right” or “wrong” thing. It just is.
For me, that poll and thread (and others) failed the Front Page test - I try not to post stuff that I don’t want to see on the front page of my local newspaper (and I found it creepy, too). I wouldn’t tell other people they can’t start threads like that or post to them, though - other people are not me.

I think the second poll is way creepier.
FTR, I have personally noted my genital shaving habits on the boards, so I don’t consider myself particularly squeamish about the topic.
Y’know with all due respect, bullshit. You have no way of knowing how many people were intentionally sabotaging the poll by answering every single question ( as obviously at least a few did ) and by far the largest chunk of the responses were null, i.e. male. Also note that in addition to the numbers not really supporting your position, that not a single person said anything positive about that poll until you entered the scene at post #55. And it seems thereafter that at most five or six posters argued against the loose consensus.
My opinion is that a majority of people would find that poll a little skeezy. But I will admit that I can’t prove that one way or the other. However neither can you and the circumstantial evidence is definitely stacked in the other direction.
There’s nothing stupid and irrational about being grossed out by posts that are basically fodder for masturbation. It’s the internet equivalent of having someone randomly approach you on the street waving his dong at you. The tinge of benevolent sexism doesn’t help (O exalted breasts!) I’d rather be thought of as a person than defined by the shape, size, length and texture of my nipples, personally. It gets tiresome.
Right here, as a data point. I actually started laughing at the creepiness when I got to the “puffy / not puffy” part and thought this OP was a well-executed parody thread.
But what Big T is saying (and I agree) is that if a stranger on the street waves his penis at you, you have an extremely good reason to assume that he’ll try to rape you. It’s impossible to rape somebody over the internet. You may judge the dong waver a pervert, but you remain safe. I believe that’s a very important distinction.
Guy here. While I don’t think there’s anything even slightly threatening about the poll, I found it creepy.
A few years ago, I was hanging out with friends and acquaintances. The topic of masturbation came up, and everyone was chatting freely about it. And then one guy started getting oddly specific about his questions, regarding how long it takes women to masturbate, positions, surroundings, etc. It creeped everyone out and killed the conversation.
That’s what that thread was. The Dope isn’t a very prude place, and we can talk about all sorts of stuff. But when it comes to the tone, there’s a line that can be crossed. It may be hard to define, but the vast majority of posters know it when they see it. And boy, did we see it.
Anything in particular or just in general? I didn’t have the patience to read all 10 pages of it. And especially because it was closed. FWIW my impression is that thread was pretty thorough in its chaotic nature.
Well sure, we’re all safe as houses. No one’s worred about getting raped while reading that thread. (Unless they live in a bad part of town, then maybe. But I digress.) Doesn’t mean that we still can’t find it creepy. And it is, to the extreme. It’s creepy enough that Fear Itself will probably forever be remembered as “the creepy nipple guy” in Dopers’ minds. (He is in mine, that’s for certain.)
But somebody upthread did mention the threat of rape.
In my last post, I agreed that it was creepy
I don;t know. I was worried about always being remembered as the ‘naked guy who started the naked Doper pic thread’. If that’s how people remember me, I haven’t noticed. Then again, I think I was more on people’s radar and had an identity before that. I don’t know that Fear Itself had a strong identity before this.
