SDMB security upgrade set for Wed., 6/17/2026

We’ll be enabling a Content Security Policy (CSP) from Discourse, the hosting service for the Straight Dope Message Board, on Wednesday, 6/17/2026, at 9 a.m. CT. The CSP restricts the ability of ad networks to download code to our site and is intended to prevent attacks by bad actors. We expect this change to be invisible to users and are providing this heads-up just in case.

If there seem to be any problems we see from this somehow, should we report them here or in a Site Feedback thread so that Discourse developers might see them?

Again, it shouldn’t really affect anything from our end-user side, but if you get some error that appears to reference the above, it would be site feedback.

That is not how Scotty would have done it. You should have said that it would only be a couple of hours, then claim credit and praise when the actual repair happens almost instantaneously.

Presuming, of course, that it doesn’t somehow knock me off the site altogether.

The new security policy has now been enabled.

And I’m still here!

That’s what they want you to think.

And it went without any glitch, I have been active on the board for the last 10 hours or so, without any issues.

I often dislike changes like this, but this seems like a really good idea and I haven’t noticed any side effects. Thank you for doing this.
